Records on the line this season

Recommended Posts

I was hopeful of a possible 100% record this season, certainly in the league and had been tempted to quiz a few bookies about odds on that. Glad I didn't after first game! Attendance records should be nicely broken, and a few more along the way but not sure it's going to be a walkover as many believe. Remember every game this season is a cup final for our opponents, it's going to be tough keeping a high level of performance and interest from the squad. Certain players (Goian particularly) didn't look at all interested in being on the pitch last weekend and that worries me!

Interestingly enough, I was about to throw in Accrington Stanley, only to find out that a) they were never part of anything great in England, and b) that they actually suffered what the Hooped Horrors (and the BBC) assume to have happened to us:

Accrington Stanley F.C. (1891)

Accrington Stanley (of nowadays)

But the prime candidate for the question at hand might be Preston North End, who saw it all.

Preston might have seen it all but didn't win every domestic trophy as they never managed to win the League Cup or Charity Shield. Unless I'm mistaken Wolves have won them all though.

Rangers today have broken the previous WORLD RECORD for a 4th division game, previously held by Crystal Palace for a game in 1961 with a crowd of 37,774 against Milwall.

And the world was watching ... (list assembled by an FFer)

Thanks for that dB. :tu:

It's amazing how our record breaking attendance today get's reported all over the world, but almost completely ignored in our own country.

Maybe the righteous bastions of sporting integrity in Scotland were embarrassed that Rangers at Ibrox attracted more Rangers fans than all 38 of the other Scottish football clubs managed to attract to 19 Scottish football stadiums today.
