Rangers Women - Games and Updates

Glasgow City v BAR?( I never had the sound on) was on BBC Alba last week. To be honest the level of football is very poor. Keepers seem to be the worst. They are what they are, lassies who can't catch a ball.

Was Cammy Bell playing ?

Just watched the highlights posted above and there are some decent bits of play here and there. Boyce, apart from one fresh air kick looked a decent centre forward who finshed the first goal with real aplomb and held the ball up well. At other junctures, the game looked like a a group of 14 year old schoolboys chasing the ball.

Glasgow played a fake Barcelona from Cyprus in the last 32 of the Champions League and are now up against the real Barcelona in the last 16. They are toast.

Women's footie is what it is. We have to remember that our ladies are all at best semi-professionals, AFAIK only Glasgow City is full-time. It was said that compared to males, they play a football akin to the males in the early 1970s, speed and ability-wise. At the end of the day, if you switch it on, you have to accept the standard of what you are watching as a given, without the "need" to compare it to the males. You usually don't do that either with handball, volleyball and the like. If you want quality women football, you'd have to wait for the World Cup and check out games of the USA, Germany, Japan and less than a handfull of others, who play women's footie at a professional level for about a decade or so. (And remember that the males arrived where they are today after 150odd years.)

I heard a bit on BBC Radio Scotland last night, congratulating Glasgow City for winning their twelfth consecutive league title.

Saturday evening's preview on the same means, told us Glasgow City had to draw with Spartans to secure the title. The only fly in the ointment, was a Glasgow City defeat and Hibs defeating Rangers Ladies by a considerable score. It would appear Scott Booth's side spared our blushes by over coming Spartans 4-2, because Hibs thrashed us 7-1.

I await the highlights?

Well, Hibs did chase City (for the first time in years) all along and have a traditionally good setup. We tested various managers over the years, but the constant player changes and playing quite a few girls as opposed to experienced veterans on City's and Hibs side has never helped the development of a settled squad or team. It is really rather akin to German professional basketball, where sides - who are by default not that big - change players each season at a ridiculous amount, with about 3 or 4 chaps staying along, while the rest moves on with next to no money (if any) changing hands. You always wonder how their fans can stay loyal over the years ...

Amy McDonald can't work wonders and sure needs some help, methinks the SFA actually wants the first tier sides all go full time soonish. However they want to do that.

Some info on the plans ...

AMY MCDONALD believes her appointment in a full-time role at Rangers underlines the club’s commitment to the Women’s and Girls’ programmes.

The first-team manager of Rangers Women has now been given the job of Women’s and Girls’ Academy Manager meaning she will head up the Gers programme from top to bottom.

Jen King has also arrived to assist McDonald in her duties, taking charge of the Girls’ Academy on a day to day basis.

One has to bear in mind that they essentially play summer football, with the season starting in March or the like and finishes now. Let's hope they use the winter wisely.
