Rangers ready for Andre Bikey swoop

RANGERS boss Ally McCoist has made Middlesbrough defender Andre Bikey his top defensive target again.

The Light Blues are ready to try and bring the Cameroon ace to Ibrox when their transfer embargo is finally lifted in September.

McCoist is keen to strengthen his much-criticised defence with at least two new central defenders and former Reading and Burnley star Bikey, above, is at the top of his list.

Rangers tried to land the 28-year-old last summer after he left Burnley but Bikey opted to take up a one-year contract offer at Boro.

Bikey decided to stay in the Championship as he felt it would enhance his chances of making his national squad.

McCoist is hoping he can persuade the powerhouse to sign up at the second time of asking.

Rangers are close to signing up Kilmarnock keeper Cammy Bell and will open pre-contract talks with Dundee United captain Jon Daly and Motherwell’s Nicky Law. Injured Hearts captain Marius Zaliukas is also on the Ibrox radar.

Make of that what you will. I'd like to keep Bocanegra ahead of these CDs, even though Zaliukas would be decent enough.

Its 5 players that would strengthen the squad and improve the team but none of them excite me and would fill me with confidence playing in the top flight or against top flight opposition. However being realistic its going to be hard to unearth or attract some gems playing in this league.

Haven't heard much of Wilson since he joined Liverpool and in fact only read now that he's currently with Hearts till the end of the season. So people can watch him first hand if they want to. He's still only 21 and gained some valuable (if little) experience in England.

"Cameroun Ace": "former Burnley and Reading star".

Forgive me, but it's 50 years since Burnley had any "stars" and I doubt if Reading have ever had any. But if the player is a good, honest tradesman, he'll do fine.

He's not a bad player at all, big and strong and really good in the air, so if they can move on Boca and Goian to free up wages, I would be in favour. However, i would equally have no doubt that we could find a good CB playing in SFL 1 or 2, who would do a better job than the current incumbents!

The biggest concern with the article is that he is looking to get himself into the shop window for his international prospects. That is just not gonnie happen in SFL 2 (all things considered).

Rangers have targeted a move for Mexican forward Alan Pulido, STV understands.

The 22-year-old, who currently plays with Tigres in his homeland, can play as a striker or on the wing.

Pulido has been the subject of positive reports from Ibrox chief scout Neil Murray.

Capped at under-20 and under-23 levels, Rangers would face stiff competition for the forward who is being tipped as the next Javier Hernandez in his homeland.

Pulido’s contract with the Mexican Premier League side runs until December this year.

Rangers are currently banned from registering new players until September 1, the day after the summer transfer window closes.

Earlier this week, Rangers boss Ally McCoist revealed Jon Daly, Nicky Law and Andre Bikey are on a list of transfer targets for next season.

As McCoist aims to strengthen for next season, the club are also interested in Honduran international Arnold Peralta.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder captains Vida in his homeland but is a free agent in the summer.

Peralta played in Glasgow last year as part of his country’s Olympic squad and has also attracted interest from MLS side Toronto.

Definitely more enthused by links to young players I have never heard of. This is the market we should be operating in. Trouble is you really need to trust your scouts...would take zaliukas.

Why do we make all of our "Tranfer Targets" public knowledge nowadays?? Is this not just alerting other teams to the players availability? I'd take Zaliukas in a minute and Bikey would be better than we have I would imagine. Law would also be a qualty addition. I wont hold my breath on most of them arriving though I have to admit

Can't believe we're getting hit with all this stuff in public at the beginning of March. Now till September is going to seem like a bloody eternity at this rate.

Keep our "interest" in players quiet please or else wake me up in September FFS!
