SPL Vote Defeated!!

Recommended Posts

Possibly the biggest laugh in a very comical afternoon is the fact that Aberdeen refused to join the other clubs in changing the 11-1 majority requirement, stabbing every other club in the back. Talk about chickens coming home to roost! Pittodrie must be like Colonel Sanders' ranch tonight.

BREAKING NEWS

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster says he won't be resigning despite failure to push through restructuring plans. Doncaster has told BBC Scotland he feels most sorry for First Division clubs who are in a precarious financial position. He also said the current television deals would not be affected by today's decision..

I don't believe this. There was such an almighty rush to get this thing through that there had to be a massive reason for it. The fact that so many like Dundee Hibs, Aberdeen, Hearts, Motherwell, Killie etc were desperate to see it going through says that it was about the effect it would have on them. So, it can only be about SPL's debts and possible insolvency, sponsorship and media money or the SPL totally folding. I can't see any other reasons. Even Milne was talking about major implications flowing through in the short term and the long term, and the game being seriously damaged. No-one has yet stood up and said why. I'm puzzled.

From the guy who quoted "you can't change the rules halfway through a season" (our Euro run) we now know he was the one fighting tooth and nail to change them through a season.

Irony is lost on him.

This point needs to be made and remade by us. No-one else will make it known.

This point also needs to be made time and again by us. It has clearly slipped Aberdeen's mid already. Why did they do it, eh? Get them to admit it....

I am just home to the news and while it is welcome, I doubt it is all over yet. Liewell's plan for control needs this to work - he won't give up.

Now, here's a wee thought.

If you were to name the SPL clubs most likely to be involved in a relegation struggle in any normal SPL year, St Mirren and RossC would have to be two of your most likely candidates.

If you were to name two SPL clubs who live most within their means and are among the more financially secure, StMirren and Rossc would have to be among them.

It would not take a great leap of the imagination therefore to see how it would be in the best interests of both those cubs to see the more badly run and indebted of their colleagues forced into poverty, and with it a slide to the bottom of the league and annual relegation dogfights among them. In the meantime, STM and RossC, having more money to spend on better players than the others, can consolidate their positions as permanent SPL clubs.

"The vote was no unfortunately. One club in particular you need to ask exactly what their agenda is, (that club) is St Mirren.

"There was a major concession on the table today and, if it didn't deliver, then the opportunity was there to look at it down the line within two to three years.

"It's the status quo. The offer of changing the reconstruction rules was rejected by the two clubs (St Mirren and Ross County). Nobody can see the logic behind that.

"This is going to have major implications for Scottish football in the short-term and could potentially damage the game in the long term.

"I am very angry because today we have let down Scottish football and one person in particular.

"St Mirren Football club have really got to go and pose themselves the question why they are prepared to put the rest of Scottish football in jeopardy just because of their own selfish interests?"[/b]

bold part one = "one person in particular" = Peter???

Bold part 2 - like you by voting to keep the 11-1 vote split, then? Hypocrite!!!!
