Sheffield Wednesday 1 - 0 Rangers

Recommended Posts

RANGERS fans are set to create a party atmosphere at Hillsborough tomorrow night when Ally McCoistâ??s side continues the build-up to the big kick-off.

And they are being asked to continue to display the positive image which has been built up in the last few years when the Light Blues take on Sheffield Wednesday.

There could be close to 20,000 inside one of Englandâ??s most famous stadiums with thousands of Rangers fans ready to roar on their team.

And the Championship club are ready to welcome the Bears with open arms for the glamour friendly which kicks offs at 8pm.

Rangersâ?? Safety and Security team David Martin and Robin Howe have been at Hillsborough and met with the stadium management and everyone is looking forward to the visit of the team and the fans and they will be guaranteed a warm welcome.

Coaches will park at Claywheels Lane which is a short distance from the stadium and there will be no charge for parking.

Coaches carrying supporters should exit the M1 at Junction 36 where they will be met by police and then escorted to the parking area.

Fans are advised that telescopic poles will not be allowed in the ground, but they are free to bring banners and flags.

It promises to be a carnival atmosphere at Hillsborough and itâ??s an opportunity to maintain a good relationship with Wednesday.

Most importantly any Rangers fans who have bought tickets for the home section of the ground will be directed to turnstiles 1-6 in the north stand where they will be located with fellow fans.

So all the Bears will be together ready to back the team and show pride in their club.

I think Rangers are missing out on not showing this live on Rangers TV, they would make a lot of cash from this, unless of course there is some law that says they can't show it?.

I doubt if it's a legal issue mate. The Owls would maybe have requested no live broadcasting so as to ensure as big an uptake of tickets as possible because the policing and stewarding for this will be costing them quite a lot of cash.

Do you guys have an idea how friendlies work? Like in champ manager (assuming it is somewhat lifelike) you need to pay fees to the other clubs to arrange friendlies...do you reckon Wednesday paid us for this knowing they would get a decent crowd in or vice versa and we get a share of the gate? Any ideas? Just interested....

I think it varies from game to game depending on the circumstances. I'm not sure what the circumstances are with this particular game, but I would think we'll get some kind of fee or share of the gate. I guess it's also possible that this was arranged as a way of indirectly paying us compensation for McCabe, but that would still involve a fee or gate share. With the Bristol City game I think there's a very high chance that we did that for free or at a reduced fee/share to compensate them for Foster. I'm not sure if Bristol will have made much if any cash though since they only took in something like 100k in ticket sales and obviously would need to pay police, stewarding and various other costs off that. Not exactly a great money spinner for them when their fans didn't turn out in very good numbers.

Real Madrid were paid £750k to play Bournemouth the other night. Celtic were given £1m for participating in matches in America a few years back as well. With our huge support i am surprised we don't get more invitations, especially closer to home.
