Can only remember him playing for Dundee utd, but echo the sentiments, sad news. He was part of that cracking side that got to the UEFA final in 1987-88 and knocked out Barcelona.

IIRC there was an article by him posted on here a few months ago that was a good read....

McCoist Mourns Redford

RANGERS manager Ally McCoist has paid tribute to former player Ian Redford who has sadly passed away.

Perthshire-born Redford began his career with Dundee before joining Rangers in February 1980 for a Scottish record transfer fee of £210,000.

During his six seasons at Ibrox he made over 200 appearances for the club and won the Scottish Cup and two League Cups.

Redford featured in the 4-1 Scottish Cup final replay victory over Dundee United in May 1981 and scored the winner in a League Cup final victory over the Tannadice team - which he would play for in the future - later the same year.

McCoist said: “We are deeply shocked to hear the very sad news that Ian has passed away.

“I had the honour of playing with him early in my Rangers career and he was a terrific lad and an extremely talented footballer who will be sadly missed.

“Everyone at Rangers sends their sincere condolences to Ian’s family and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”

As a mark of respect there will be a minute’s silence observed prior to kick-off at this afternoon’s game against East Fife.
