Don't you think that this an assumption becoming gospel? Do we actually need a scouting department that urgently these days? And before people get me wrong, we sure need a scouting system, but people appear (sic!) to a) think that we have next to no contacts out there and b) a scouting department would yield instant success. Neither ain't true and while we can think negative all day long, no-one knows whether people working on setting up a scouting department or at least system while we speak. Right now though the team is packed with players and the board apparently has more pressing concerns over the next couple of months.

No yer right

why would a football club need a scouting team? and while we're at it we can do away with the training ground

Tbf Newgate Threadneedle are specialists within the financial world but whilst we can question if the PLC gets value, it's difficut to tell.

The PR/spin costs for the business as a whole will be relatively high but very much expected given the way the club have operated for the last few years.

I think you could consider it a cost so as to:-

- lay down a general fog in place of transparency where deemed necessary,

- push x,y or z into the mindset of the support.

- mislead on specifics

- shield/proof reader to prevent letting something slip

- infiltration of social media (general management of)

- brief journalists on slant required

- etc

I don't doubt all three - just like Toxic - are good at their jobs. And, I don't doubt we're getting value for money per se from their appointments.

Whether or not it's in the interests of a well-managed club we can all trust again like you I'm not so sure unfortunately. Especially when it's in the absence of proper football related departments that we really need (or don't according to some fans).

That's OK though, people have been working hard to get us a new chief scout. Over a year seems a nice in-depth head-hunting search. I wonder how much our recruitment consultant(s) are being paid... ;)

What amazes me in this story is why do the current board care about the contracts of Green and Ahmed, who supposedly are no longer in any power at our club.

This board slated their regime in the 120 minute review, but now all of a sudden are protective of Directors who no longer are anything to do with the club, and had gone before any of the current board were in situ.

More evidence of the power behind the throne?

You may well be right...there are continual rumours that Green is still very much involved. There was a piece on the CRO website the other day saying he had been in the USA trying to find buyers for the shareholdings that the Easdales control.

I don't think we can really know who controls the club.

Could be Green or, more likely, it could be he's just (continuing) to work for those that do. After all, he was brought back as a consultant before...

PS: Hasn't he been trying to sell a bus company as well?

It's not an assumption: after being suspended by Charles Green, Neil Murray left last April and hasn't been replaced.

Sure you can argue whether or not we need a fully staffed department but I'd say the quality (or rather the paucity) of our signings in recent times suggests we certainly need someone capable to managing what is an important part of ensuring your squad is suitable year on year. Contacts, agents and Youtube videos are all well and good but it needs someone dedicated to fully managing the process. We don't have that and it's unacceptable.

What is more pressing at Rangers than actually being able to put a team on the park that can challenge Celtic, win domestic competitions and ensure European football (and the essential monies that come from that)?

Next we'll be told Auchenhowie is just a waste of money as well. Oh wait, we already have been...

Perhaps we don't need the stadium overheads either? And, hey, with only 10K season ticket holders, why not just move back to playing at Glasgow Green?

As always, you may find all the above acceptable. I don't.

Anyone could set up a scouting dept. Whether it's any good is another matter. Neil Murray was a ridiculous appointment. Green was spot on to get shot off him. Other than being McCoist's buddy what background/experience did he have for the job ?

The facilities are Auchenhowie may be world class but are no being utilised properly. That needs to change even if it means personnel changes. I reckon the board are terrified to do this as it would meet with usual squeals of protest from the usual suspects

The various incarnations of the board get value for money, we just pay for it (indirectly)

Toxic Jack and his remit did untold damage wrt the ability of the support to constructively criticise/oppose/contribute to club strategy going forward.

I could write hundreds of pages on this but this thread is about the Police Probe and I don't want to be accused of directing attention away from it whilst on the subject of spin.

I completely agree Murray was a poor appointment. However, taking a year to replace him is a nonsense and certainly suggests the opposite of it being an easy task.

The board are terrified of making changes at Auchenhowie? Who from? I don't know many people who are particularly fond of either the youth coaches or the first team management.

Maybe they just need another year of renewals to find their courage?

They are more than capable of doing things which don't meet with the approval of the 'usual suspects' when it is done to protect their own positions and those in the shadows pulling the strings.

Any board worth it's salt would be making decisions which were for the good of the company, regardless of how popular that made them.
