Jackson - Rangers Next Captain?

Recommended Posts

He's always been highly rated that's why he got a move to the premiership.

The comparison to Hutton will haunt you.

he flopped in england and was released. He went to four teams on loan and never really broke into any team. Then went to hibs. So he wasn't always highly rated at all. Hutton will be average once he moves to a league were he gets more time on the ball.

Time will tell ,think your in for a nasty surprise if Warburton OKs the move.

maybe unfair on Hutton. Doubt Murdoch could mark him out the game.

Allan misplaces passes when under no pressure regularly something that will get worse with 45000 watching.

What makes you rate him the one good game he had against us or the media hype?

I give you 9 out of 10 for this wind-up exercise!

PS: Why would anyone try to mark Hutton out of a game, not to mention Murdoch?! Hutton has enough on his hands to get the ball under control and find a fellow player. Having him in the side was more often than not us playing with a man less on the park. He had potential way back in the days when he had a run out against ManU in the CL. After that even Ross Perry was more use to our central defense than Hutton was to our midfield. A boy called Macleod shot past him in the squad like a flash. But since Kyle is belonging to the past now - and I wish him well wherever he ends up - you'd do well to watch those games we played against Hibs this season and seek out the chap with Allan on his back. A 23-year old chap with experience in the SPL and the English 2nd tier, who scored 2 goals in 40 games for Hibs last season, and set up another 17.

NB: On a sidenote, Hutton played 12 games for us this season, setting up one goal. Game time: 999 minutes.

I have to admit I am not a Hutton fan, He was absolute crap this season. I don't know enough about Allen to pass judgement on him but he left Murdoch in his wake a good few times that I saw. Murdoch has the potential to be a good player but I really think he needs to be sent to a sprint coach to bring him to the next level.

What concerns me most about potentially signing both Allan & Wilson is that both are approaching their mid-twenties and have only managed around 100 firstteam games each for various clubs throughout their career. Not a lot is it? What was it SAF used to say about checking a player's attendance record before signing him?

Its no wind up. I rate Allan as bad as Hutton. Its nothing to do with hutton being a good player. Its Allan is that bad.

Experience?! Hes took part in 8 games in the spl.

that's the problem too many watching highlights or one game and thinking they can judge a player. The boy is poor, the amount of times he loses possession will not go down well at Ibrox. There is a reason Forfar, mk dons, west brom and birmingham all didnt rate him.

2 goals in 40 games in the second tier of scottish football from midfield. Is that meant to be a selling point?

10 games for scotland u21's scored 0 assists 1. In the 9 games he started subbed in them all

If making a comparison to last years squad what level would you rate him at?

Sincerely hope so............because the pain from the impatient pontificating pomposity of the 'underwhelmed' Is already to much to bear. More likely to drive the rest of us to the Erskine Bridge before the first ball is kicked than anything W&W could possibly inflict upon us.

Just saying like .......... :D :D

No disrespect, but if you rate Allan as bad as Hutton it would be like debating Vuckic with gunslinger. Our opinions seem to be half a galaxy apart here, but so be it.

How do you know Forfar didn't rate him? He was 18 and joined them on an emergency loan from September to October, playing 4 games. He also played for MK Dons for a month, again playing 4 games. It seems Portsmouth liked him, signing him twice and playing him regularly. Kyle Hutton would be lucky if Accrington Stanley showed interest in him.

Malky Mackay: John Eustace is perfect captain to bring leadership back to Ibrox dressing-room

Mackay managed Eustace at Watford and insists he's the perfect professional and would be a great leader if Mark Warburton seals a deal for him.

One of a dying breed. A warrior. A leader. Rangers fans may have doubts about the prospect of a 35-year-old coming in as their captain and midfield linchpin – but Malky Mackay doesn’t.

John Eustace has been targeted by Mark Warburton as a key
summer signing in the lightning rebuild he’s having to construct in the weeks ahead.

Released by Derby, dormant since knee ops in both January
and April, and in the late autumn of his career, the alarm bells
were ringing as his name hit
the headlines in the Daily
Record yesterday.

But few are better placed to pass judgment on him than the former Cardiff and Wigan gaffer who made Eustace his skipper for two years while in charge at Watford.

And he believes he’s exactly
the type his old Vicarage Road
colleague Warburton needs at the heart of his dressing room.

Mackay said: “John’s a real
warrior, a leader, someone who pulls people in around him and gets them playing as well.

“I don’t like to use the phrase ‘a dying breed’ but there aren’t many of them around any more. He’s a guy who orchestrates things in
the middle of the park. He was my captain and he was an outstanding professional.

“Even then, and it’s five years ago now, people were questioning his legs but in centre mid, he was the absolute leader of my team.

“He was a good voice on the pitch – something there’s far too little of these days – and a good guy around the changing room.

“It’s funny, when I first took over at Watford for three games in between Ady Boothroyd going and Brendan Rodgers taking over, one of the first things I had to do in management was drop him!

“I was going to pick a completely different team as I only had three games to make an impression.

“I had to bring John in and tell him. It was hard because it wasn’t a kid, it was an experienced pro.

“I’ll always remember it because it was the first time I had to go from being the coach who was every player’s pal to being the manager who could impact on someone’s life . But he dealt with it like the pro he was.

“And ironically when I got the job a year later I played him every time I possibly could and made him my captain.”

Mackay’s a manager who believes age is nothing but a number, a conclusion he arrived at through experience.

He captained Watford into
the Premier League himself at 34, and played there past his 35th birthday.

In his promotion season in charge of Cardiff his best pound-for-pound signing
to help get them to the
promised land was Heidar Helguson, the 35-year-old hard-as-nails Icelandic striker.

And he insists there are plenty of other examples. He said: “You need leadership. If you get the right
people, it can be so important.

“When Watford didn’t renew his contract and let him go two years ago there was quickly a feeling they’d made a mistake.

“John went to Derby and was involved in their promotion pushes but injury has stopped him this past season.

“But I felt I got better as I got older – at 32, 33, 34 I was
arguably playing my best.

“I won promotion to the Premier League three times in three years with three
different clubs.

“Look at Davie Weir. He was 36 when he signed for Rangers .

“These guys are playing at that level for a reason. They dedicate themselves to their profession and look after their body. We all listened to
Gordon Strachan when he talked about looking after himself the older he got – and he was playing in the Premiership at 40.

“Gianfranco Zola was another one. It’s not rocket science.

“If you dedicate yourself and have the talent, you can keep
playing at that level if you play in certain positions where pace
isn’t so required.

“A centre forward, a centre mid or a centre back and you keep your body athletic – not necessarily quick – then you can use your brains as well as your legs and
keep playing.

“Look at Ryan Giggs, still playing Champions League in his late 30s in centre mid because he took to things like yoga, different diet.

“John fitted into that category in terms of how he looked after himself.

“And it’s also a good character coming into your club –
I’m sure that is
something Mark is thinking about as well.”

Mackay is watching with
interest to see how his old pal
puts Rangers back together again in a hurry.

Centre half Rob Kiernan – another who played under Mackay at Watford and briefly at Wigan – is expected to sign tomorrow.

And Mackay said: “I had him at Watford at 16 when he was coming through the ranks.

“He’s a terrific lad, two good feet and he’s a good age at 24. He’s
6ft 2in and will deal with Scottish football at that level just fine.

“What Mark’s having to do in a short space of time isn’t easy. I had to do it at Cardiff. We had nine players at our first training session and I brought in 10 in a hurry.

“He’ll have to do the same.
No-one gets them all right but he needs to get seven or eight right.

“He has no reason not to, though, because he has great knowledge of players and he obviously has a budget to play with.”

I don't mind us signing a 35 year-old player, simply because he's bound to play DM where pace is not necessary. He's obviously had injuries last year, and that is the worrying aspect: is it an unfortunate injury, or is it related to age? To be fair, I would still be happy with the gamble; he's obviously a leader so if he can play 20+ games he'd have an influence. I also appreciate most, and me included, feel we should be building for the future and a 35 year-old doesn't fit the bill. However, he might be able to play a few years yet. If his influence is beneficial to the team, and he plays for another 2/3 years would that be acceptable? It would for me.

Why is there no decent stats (outside appearances and goals -- there not really a good judge of performance for a midfielder! I need pass accuracy, pass success rate, assists, touches etc.) for Scott Allan? Allan's a strange case. He's always been overrated in my opinion, and his record in England would corroborate that (although, in his defense his loan spells were only a month or two in length), but his performances in Scotland have been lauded. I think he's overrated, but would actually quite like to sign him. Cognitive dissonance?! When in doubt, check FIFA16! (He's level 66.) In absolute terms he's probably a level below what I would like for us; although in my mind we're in Europe! Perhaps he'd be a decent signing for now, but not for the European stage. Does that mean we should overlook him? I'm not so sure. I think I'd take him; he's certainly one of the better players in Scotland, and he's probably good enough for the Premiership.
