Agreed, hopefully we can produce some real quality players via our youth programme. Get the good of their quality for a season or two then sell on at high value.

 

As big as we are, without income on a similar scale to the EPL or other top Euro leagues we will have to cut our cloth accordingly.

 

It's a challenge but we are Rangers - we'll meet it head on.

The thing about warburton is that he has only managed in the lower leagues. He will have to deal with european football in the coming seasons at some point and it will be interesting to see how he deals in the transfer market. He may have to change his philosophy when that time comes.

Quite a lot of clubs, even the rich ones take loans, it might not sit comfortably with some Bears (me included) but it's the way things are now sadly.

First and foremost our youths need to be good enough before they can be considered for the first team.

Unfortunately the vast majority aren't so that leaves two options:-

 

1) pay transfer fees for players in this country & elsewhere

2) get loan signings who better than our home grown players

 

Option1) is very difficult nowadays because transfer fees have literally gone thro' the roof and the income we generate in a backwater like Scotland makes it almost impossible to compete to get the calibre of player we want although a proper global scouting system still needs to be put in place.

That leaves option 2) and the MW appointment gives us access to fringe EPL players like Oduwa, Ball and Zalelam which we might not otherwise have had if we'd appointed the likes of McCall or McInnes. The challenge is, of course, ensuring they're the calibre we will need in the next few seasons as we re-enter European football.

If we can produce youngsters good enough to play at the highest level in Scotland, we wont need to be reliant on many loans from the EPL. However if the club can source some players of the quality of Oduwa ans Zelalem we would be foolish to turn them away. A good mix of home grown talent, two or three quality bought in and maybe one or two good loan prospect's from the EPL. Erm come to think of it, more or less what we're doing now.

Once we are back in Europe again I would imagine the quality of the loan players MW could attract would also go up. I could see EPL clubs with fringe players would jump at the chance for them to get European experience. But we need a good mix so our boys are improving and not just giving the game time to a short term player. So far i think MW has got it bang on.

I expect the UEFA will make a rule change soon to limit the number of players any club can have and then loan out. Chelsea had 30 players out on loan last season, that's farcical, in total there are close to 160 players registered to EPL sides out on loan in other countries this season. I expect this stockpiling of players to be outlawed by UEFA in the near future, it's both anti-competitive and holding back player development. No club should have more than half a dozen players out on loan at one time and no club should have any more than three loan players in their squad in my opinion.
