Aberdeen hit out at SPFL over kick-off time for televised clash against Kilmarnock

Dons angered at their fans being unable to get to Ayrshire on time for a 1pm kick-off after February clash was moved for live TV.

Aberdeen have hit out at the SPFL over the kick-off time of their televised Scottish Premiership clash with Killie in February.

The Dons game was recently moved to a 1pm start on Sunday, February 19 as part of a double-header of top flight action being shown by Sky Sports - with Dundee's clash against Rangers being shown straight after the match at Rugby Park.

The Pittodrie club released a statement tonight informing their fans that they had contacted the SPFL to register their disappointment at the switch, which now means there is no chance of fans being able to get a train to Ayrshire in time for the early kick-off.

The full statement read: "Aberdeen FC has contacted the SPFL to express our disappointment on the timing of the above fixture.

"The considerable Aberdeen away support, which is an important source of revenue to many clubs, find themselves in a position where train services on that date from Aberdeen will not enable supporters to get to Kilmarnock on time and the likely impact on the attendance will be considerable.

"The Dundee versus Rangers game on the same day kicks off at 3.15pm and it would have, we believe, been a sensible option to look at reversing the times."

I found this bit amusing.

The considerable Aberdeen away support, which is an important source of revenue to many clubs

Last time they played at Dens there was a crowd of 6,321 in a ground with a capacity of 11,506 which is hardly something to brag about. Dundee had only a thousand or so less than that in the crowd when they hosted our opponents tonight Hamilton. Hamilton have the smallest home average attendance in the league by a distance. Their average is barely half that of the next lowest Ross County.

But getting past the amusement and on to the main complaint.

"The Dundee versus Rangers game on the same day kicks off at 3.15pm and it would have, we believe, been a sensible option to look at reversing the times."

Yes it would be a sensible option if Aberdeen were the main event. But since the main event is kept till later and Aberdeen are never going to be that when Rangers are also playing all I can say is. BOOHOO
