SPFL - No Further Action Re: EBTs

Recommended Posts

Everyone on the beeb saying the SFA should now pick up the reigns on this and charge us with bringing the game into disrepute. This is not going to go away just yet.

It's never going to go away Pete. They will not be satisfied until they force someone to strip titles from us.

Even if it takes rule changes to make it happen they're going to do their damnest to ensure it does happen.

As far as i'm concerned it's dead. If by not going away yet you mean the yahoo element will continue being the mindless screaming yahoos they are I agree and that in fact will never go away. But in the real world this is done and dusted.

The SPFL statement and press conference cawed the legs from the title strippers, with its very openness and transparency. It left them with little -no- room for manoevre, hair splitting, pedantry, pettifogging, cavilling, or straw clutching.

The very statement, itself, made clear that the SPFL (its legal mouthpiece) had explored every possible charge against the Club, bar only Gross Moral Turpitude, which, obviously, could not be laid against it, or, I may say, against any other of the member Clubs at all, save one.

Hence the focus on the SFA, and its rather less than definitive statement post the Supreme Court's decision, and the possibility of a retrospective charge of 'bringing the game into disrepute'. This sounded like the last refuge of the damned, quite frankly.

Quite how they can interpret the implementation of a scheme of tax avoidance, under advisement, the same as or similar to mechanisms employed in the City, in offshore industries, and in football, a scheme which was legal, a scheme which the Supreme Court specifically declared was not "a sham", a scheme which was open to any/all competitors to take advantage of themselves, and a scheme which was declared in the annual accounts submitted to the authorities, as so disreputable as to be worthy of a charge and sanction, is something worthy of question itself.

I imagine that the SFA's legal opinion will be as robust and definitive as that given to the SPFL, and of similar import.

However, you are correct, this issue is unlikely to disappear.

The very suggestion of a 'Review' of process, procedures, and policy will be seen as an opportunity to reassess the use of EBTs, to ascribe guilt, and to retrospectively impose punishment. Of course the appraisal of what happened, of what lessons should be learned, of what policies and rules should be amended or replaced, and of what new regulations should be put in place, cannot be undertaken with that slanted agenda as its driver. Naturally (unnaturally) if the review does not have terms of reference satisfactory to the title strippers, it will be regarded as a whitewash, and campaigning will continue in some sort of infinite regression, forever that is, unless or until they disappear up their own fundaments. God speed that (dark) day.

I really hope these obsessed clowns do continue to focus on us. The longer they spend doing that, the less time they'll spend looking at what is going on at their own club. They're on the decline because they're too busy trying to keep us down. 55 will be the sweetest day in football. It may take us a little longer to get there, but can you imagine the reaction?!? What a day that'll be.
