The topsy-turvy world of Tom English

Does the boycott of Ibrox by the BBC affect the amount of TV money Rangers are entitled to at the end of the season? Surely a BBC boycott of games from Ibrox is hitting BBC Scotland financially since we are by far and away the best supported team in Scotland in terms of viewing figures?

I don't think so but it's interesting the the SPFL are prepared to overlook the rights-holder ignoring one club.

Hitting BBC Scotland financially? LOL yer havin' a laugh

It is funded by the licence fee which you pay whether you watch BBC or not

Only advertising based channels are affected by viewing figures. The BBC are one of the richest broadcasters in the world and are the worlds largest news agency. If no one in Scotland watched the BBC it would have no effect on them.

You don't have to pay it. You also don't have to own a TV set.

BBC Scotland have settled on providing a service to licence fee paying Rangers supporters that is sub standard. When Rangers play at Ibrox, we and the opposition supporters receive a tangled mess.

For example, last night the nominated useful idiot was Steven Thompson. He was introduced by Richard Gordon as, "being across all the media reports on events at Ibrox". The match preview was an after thought that lasted a couple of minutes. Thompson began most sentences with, "I imagine" and, "I suspect"; the teams were read out and we were back to Dundee, where Gordon, English, and Spence were located. At both half time and full time, Richard Gordon utilised the same introductory phrase, "it appears one sided". Thompson agrees and then begins each of the next six sentences with, "Apparently" and, "by all accounts".

Clearly, Steven is watching Rangers TV but cannot reference the fact. Further, 'I suspect' Beeb Scotland is streaming Rangers TV? We pay our licence fees, are Beeb Scotland paying for the Rangers TV service? We had no reported reaction from either clubs' manager. They should be embarrassed at such a service and if Cosgrove and Cowan were honest in their satirical weekly take on Scottish football, they would be lampooning it mercilessly. That would require integrity, and Steven Thompson should attempt to find some soonest. Take a leaf from Richard Wilson's book and tell them to get someone else to participate in such ridiculous presentation.

In in interests of transparency when discussing EBT's, tax avoidance etc shouldn't the Rangers hating licence payer funded cabal at the BBC divulge their own perfectly legal tax avoidance vehicles, after all rangers revealed their use of EBT's publicly each year?

Here's one of Richard "I'was brought up to hate Rangers" Gordon's https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC425737

It appears taking steps to minimise your taxes is perfectly legal and normal practice unless of course you happen to be Rangers.

The BBC's contract is with the SPFL. At the end of the season it's entirely up to the SPFL how much money we receive and nothing to do with the beeb.

That's why, if we banned them completely we'd be breaking football rules and we'd probably get paid nothing from anybody.

Lol, Rab. I can only put it down to a combination of jetlag and a nasty virus I picked up on holiday.

As an addendum to this article, in the interests of research, over the last fortnight I've contacted several UK-based academics who specialise in tax law - all at the top of their profession across the country.

Of those whom have replied, whilst not all have paid particularly close attention to the BDO/HMRC case, not one was prepared to describe Rangers' use of EBTs as 'unlawful'.

Just who is/are Tom English's expert(s)?

Tom, presumably, visited the divers slophouses frequented by Pacific Quay Emerald CSC, and after conducting rigorous interrogation on the Kerrydale Tax Law Catechism of the regular patrons, or bar flies, if you will - men, and women, of experience, no book learners they, but graduates of the University of Life- found a clear consensus.

Tom's expenses claim for this vital research may raise the odd eyebrow.
