Duds and never played XI

Recommended Posts

Following on from Gribz thread yesterday, I thought we could make up a team of players who never got the chance or were a complete load of garbage but we probably paid millions for.

I'll go for:

1. Lionel Charbonnier (No2 behind Klos and probably behind Niemi too !)

2. Bertie Bomb-scare Konterman

3. Tom Cowan (Never a chance at left-back because of Davie Robertson)

4. Daniel Prodan (My knee, my knee)

5. Oleg Kuznetzov (Mrs Doyle haircut)

6. Avi Cohen (Israel's finest)

7. Iain McCall (One cracker against Hibs errrrrrrrrr ??)

8. Terry Hurlock (Legend, never mind the ball, let's get on with the game)

9. Peter Van Vossen (What a miss)

10. Tore Andre Flo (Come on......12M for someone that tall and useless in the air !!!)

11. Oleg Salenko (After 5 goals in one world cup game Oleg decided to start the Diego Maradona diet..........SLIM-SLOW !!)

I think some of your players werent that bad, Charbonnier was unlucky and Kuznetzov was cracking until his injury.

Keepers - Ginzberg, Christensen, Maxwell, Nicky Walker

Defenders - Konterman, Bollan, Stensaas, Prodan

Midfielders - Thern (unlucky), Maniero, Capucho, Emerson, Dragan, Rae,

Fowards - Gayle, Ostenstad, Flo, Bo Andersen (bar his double against celtic in New year game 1997), Sebby Rozental - again unlucky with injury

There are many more of dumplings to come.... :)

Rae and Emerson weren't that bad.

But if you notice most players have been over the last 10 years. Shows you what Rangers Life is coming to.

Maybe Jonc can tell us about some players in the horrible 70's

The squads were much smaller in the seventies and the same players played week in week out. As you were only allowed 2 subs they were in fact mainly used for injuries. Reserve players were mostly from the second team so therefore there were fewer Duds, more just young players that didn't quite make it.

Add Colin West to the list, i believe he was a Souness signing.

Ashikodi had all of 3 seconds on the pitch in his Rangers first team career... Shame.

Jeffers was given a chance after chance but didn't take any, at least Flo could score against the wee teams.

I thought Amato was a great player but got moved on very quickly.

Boli won the CL and then was pants for us.

I don't know whether Guivarche (sp?) was any good as he hardly got a game after winning the world cup.

I liked Charbonnier.

Clelland was never good enough for Rangers.

Fraser Wishart!!!

Carcary and N'Guessan looked good in the reserves but never got a chance.

PS Van Vossen was an excellent player before his miss.

I remember watching Sky's hour long programme at the end of the season showing how Rangers won the league and the guy had some great games showing excellent skill. He just totally lost his confidence after the miss and even Walter said that it looked like he'd been replaced with his non-footballing twin brother.
