Has anyone noticed this about Morelos?

Recommended Posts

Having watched the past few matches and in comparison with earlier in the season it seems that Morelos need to get the ball in a certain way, it seems he needs to meet the ball full on as in v Partick and he is clinical when he gets this type of ball otherwise he will struggle to get one if he has to maneuver the ball to get one, wondered if anyone has noticed this, of course the better the service the better for a striker, but sometimes an opening has to be worked.

I don't think Morelos is going to be terribly effective if we continue to hit long balls to him and he is up against a 6ft4 CB! It is probably the only argument for persevering with Pena, as for all his faults, he is possibly the only player capable of creating something from nothing (Niko is probably the only exception to that but fitness is always going to be a challenge for him) and if so, he can and will play in Morelos. Dorrans could be an interesting option if he was played in the Pena position, and at the moment I don't think we have much to lose by trying this as an alternative.

Using Morelos as a long ball outlet is no use he needs a partner up front or his goal scoring attributes could be lost. What is happening here and now reminds of McCoist bringing back the prolific scorer that was Boyd and using him in a long ball receiving situation which resulted in Boyd getting slated unfairly as that is not his type of game.

With the heart of a lion no doubt Morelos will continue to give his all but at the moment his attributes are being destroyed.

I couldn't get why the constant long balls at the weekend. It led to Morelos and Pena being largely ineffective. Both players who want the ball to feet.

Agree with this. In addition, Morelos was also a bit of an unknown quantity at the start of the season. Teams now know more about him and are marking him more closely and being more physical with him. It would be interesting to see what would be the result of playing another striker closer to him.

Have we though of giving Hardie his chance beside Morelos?

We should be good enough to play 3-5-2 against all teams except possibly celtic. We can’t pump long balls to Morelos. Our wide players need to take on their opponents more and Pena can only work in space. Morelos against 3 brutal centre backs and 2 holding midfielders can never work.Im not clear why Herrera and Morelos haven’t been given much of an opportunity together as the Pena link up just isn’t working as well as it should.

Pena was a bystander first half Sunday, he stood to far off Morelos to lay anything off to him and vice versa. The game was literally thundering around him whilst he was the calm in the centre of the hurricane, I said to mate sitting next to me after about 30mins, Pena's not been seen yet. Total waste of a position on Sunday, he's big , strong and can score given the ball in front of goal, what the feck was he doing standing around the midfield with his thumb up his arse?
