[FT] Rangers 2 (Wilson 56; Morelos 76) - 0 Motherwell

Recommended Posts

Yeah, could have conceded goals in the first and last minutes of the first half.

Other than that, first 20mins we did OK and Niko looked quite bright. After that we toiled and went nowhere really as both teams struggled. Kipre lucky not to be sent off - just the two kicks of Jack before he was booked for kicking Herrera in the face. Good ol' John Beaton.

The lack of inspiration in this team - indeed throughout the club - is all too obvious.

With that line-up, virtually a 4-3-1-2 and the selected players, you wondered where the thread in attack would come from. Well is always in our faces and can block most attempts played long, even though some long balls from Wilson have been good. The MF ist too defensive though, as Kranjcar has to wait more often than not till Holt, Tav, John and Co. move up. A few good chances from Morelos, but he's lost his touch somewhat, while Herrera looks exactly what one could expect, a bit low on match pracise. Alomst as if he's got the heavy boots on. He's trying though.

Kipre first leaves his boot in on Jack's knees end ends his game, then kicks Herrera in the face ... and gets a yellow. Wouldn't be surprised to see a change at HT re Herrera. We sure need more of an attacking thread, right now, Holt, Barjonas and McCrorie are mor reractive than proactive and allow Motherwell far too much space. So Candeias and Pena on to keep them occupied in their half and hand Kranjcar someone to play with. The Croat sure is no runner, but gets his tackle in and most of his crosses and passes not only reach a Ranger, but also are finely executed.

I thought we actually did quite well in the second half. OK, the quality wasn't always there in the final third but we at least tried to force the game and got more men forward.

Two good finishes in the end and it was quite fitting that Wilson got that all important opener as he was our best player for long periods. Mentions for Niko, Alves and Tav whom all did quite well too - Barjonas as well who worked hard.

All in all, that's a good win. Not great but a step forward after two steps back.
