The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals

Recommended Posts

Joe Worrall is due at Rangers for a medical on Thursday after the Ibrox side agreed a loan fee with Nottingham Forest.

Steven Gerrard has described the England Under-21 defender as a “fantastic” player after watching him six times last year.

The Rangers boss made personal contact with Forest over the weekend to assure the Championship outfit Worall will feature regularly in Scotland.

Gerrard is anxious to bolster his backline after a 3-3 draw at Motherwell on Sunday.

Rangers are now set to finalise a season-loan loan for the 21-year-old stopper before Friday's deadline and the defender travelled north on Wednesday.

Rangers also considered free agent Gareth McAuley and Aston Villa's Tommy Elphick to shore up their backline.

But Worrall, who has made 49 Championship starts, is Gerrard's first choice.

Forest are trying to recoup cash after paying over £20million for 11 new players this summer.

Worrall will be available for Sunday's clash with Celtic but is unlikely to feature after not playing this term having slipped to fifth choice centre-back at the City Ground under Aitor Karanka.

Direct replacement for Murphy, they say? Well, he played twice as many games on the right than on the left, though Osijek played him on both flanks and as centre-forward.

First time I hear of Tommy Elphick, seemingly an experienced CH at Villa, though he played most of his 350odd games for Bournemouth and Brighton ...

He'd cost money or would be a loanee too though.

McAuley is but 8 years older and with 520odd games (roughly 200 each in the EPL and Championship) vastly experienced. As a freebie more a CH-player-coach and back-up than a real option ... despite our experiences with Berg, Weir, Dailly and Hill.

Is it thought that this may be an upgrade on Murphy? Ideally if we have to replace anyone for any reason including long term injuries like that of Murphy we should be striving to bring in something better not just an equivalent.

Very detailed article on Grezda. The video on there is better than any I’ve found on YouTube too. What a signing by Allen and his team. They’re building something big here and turning the club around with prospects like this. I predict we’ll be breaking our record transfer fee received in the next few years.

Dominic Solanke hope depends one other transfer

Rangers could still sign Dominic Solanke before Friday’s transfer deadline but Steven Gerrard needs one thing to happen to be able to complete a late swoop.

With Roberto Firmino the Reds’ first-choice striker and Daniel Sturridge having enjoyed a pre-season resurgence, Solanke’s prospects are limited with a temporary spell away mooted as a possibility.

Divock Origi has yet to earn a move away from Merseyside, leaving four strikers on the books.

A move to Wolves also failed to materialise with Origi unwilling to join the newly-promoted Premier League club despite their willingness to complete a deal worth £22m plus add-ons.

And the Echo have said that unless Liverpool receive a suitable offer, Origi will remain at Anfield as cover - which could free up Solanke to move to avoid stunting his development.
