Its still a competitive match/competition a full month before the SPFL season begins that I'd rather not have to do. It would be a bit of a mistake to treat it as a friendly. Also the Betfred cup ties that other Scottish teams will be competing in starts in the same week. @JFK-1

Potential opposition, one of them Progrès though I don't see a disaster on that scale happening again.

I mean the date is set so theres not much we can do about that... it is what it is. Theres also a lot of 'if', 'ands' and 'buts' to be addressed before the draw is even  made. If we base it on the current team then I wouldn't fancy our chances up against many of those sides. The current team is bi-polar at times fantastic and great to watch and at others horrendously inefficient and shipping goals. You just dont know what Rangers team you're going to see from one minute to the next even in a single game.

If Steve G and McAllister can iron out some of those kinks by moving on and/or bring through some of those we already have then we could stand a chance of getting through a couple of prelim rounds but I still wouldn't see us progressing to the group stages. For me they need to replace Bates an Martin with two pacey CH's with a bit of quality about them football wise. They also need to strengthen the midfield as many of the chances against us this season were from playing through our midfield. I like players like Holt and Windass dont get me wrong but they are far too lightweight for me.

Good podcast, it's as constructive a conversation as you'll get anywhere on matters Rangers.

I think David is up there at the top of the clubs podcast punditry.

One pedantic bone to pick about the subject of '...Atrocious Referees'.

The only 'penalty decision' mentioned was the one that was correctly awarded (Hibs first goal) and not the Whittaker handball, which for me was the most important decision/mistake of the whole game. A decision that didn't have a balancing factor to weigh in as did the Allan 'red card' / Goss.

And whilst being pedantic and on referees, if Ross has a father who is a qualified ref. then he might want to call him prior to the podcast to check on the rules, eg. concerning Hibs penalty.

Definitely a few potential banana skins in there. We’ll certainly want to dodge Partizan, Molde, Lech Poznan, Tbilisi and the Sofias I’d suggest. The ideal draw would an Irish team because the travel wouldn’t disrupt things as much for the team and it would be an easy game.

We are seeded in the first round and can't draw Partizan and the other teams you list.

This link has a graphic that makes this clear.

Ah apologies. That makes for much better reading. There are a few sides in the Balkans in there too who would be a decent draw.

There are teams there who could make life difficult but the first round should really be about us. In that if we have our act together regards some swift, decent recruitment and good preperation, then we should get to the second qualifying round without too many issues.

We'd definately be unseeded in the second round and there would be some potentially very difficult ties, eg. Sevilla.
