A recommendation from star Socceroo midfielder Aaron Mooy helped Melbourne City capture their latest off season signing, Glasgow Rangers winger Michael O'Halloran.

The Scots born wide man has played for five clubs in England and Scotland since making his senior debut seven years ago having started alongside Mooy at Bolton Wanderers.

O' Halloran has joined on a two year deal as City begin to rebuild following an off-season clear out which has seen them lose several familiar faces.

City's head coach Warren Joyce said: “Michael brings a wealth of experience from a number of clubs, including one of the biggest in Europe. He’s a very exciting player to watch - he has pace to burn and is capable of creating and scoring goals. I still remember watching him at Bolton Wanderers where he played in the same youth team as Aaron Mooy.”

“He will be an important addition to the squad and I know he is very ready to start preseason
preparations.”

O'Halloran said it was a recommendation from former City midfielder Mooy, now a critical member of the Australian team at the World Cup,which persuaded him to move to Melbourne.

“I’m coming with high hopes to play my part in a team that I feel are really going places. I’m
really looking forward to getting in, working hard and training.”

“I’m here to improve the team, and to play my part to try and win the league, which is our
first and foremost aim, and also to win the Asian Champions League.”

“Aaron Mooy is one of my closest friends in football, he told me it was brilliant - a great
club, great place, great people and a great opportunity for me.”

O'Halloran, who can play in wide areas or as a striker, began his first-team career with Bolton Wanderers after progressing from their youth ranks.

He signed a three and a half year deal at The Reebok Stadium and was loaned out to Sheffield,United, Carlisle United and Tranmere Rovers in a bid to gain first-team minutes.

In 2014, the Glasgow-born O'Halloran returned to his native country, signing for Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone, where he scored 16 goals in 89 appearances.

He helped the Perthshire club to win the 2013/14 Scottish Cup in their first-ever Final appearance .
His good performances at St Johnstone piqued the interest of the rebuilding Glasgow Rangers, and he signed a long-term deal with the Scottish giants.

In 28 appearances, he scored three goals and created six assists, as the Ibrox club won the
2015/16 Scottish Championship and Challenge Cup before returning last year to St Johnstone on loan.

Warburton signed him on the back of him being a big part of a St.Johnstone win at Ibrox.

The thing is, MO'H didn't change his ways.......he simply continued to do everything in his power to f**k Rangers.

The main difference being we started to pay him good money for it.

No mention of a transfer fee.

It's not yet officially been announced by either party but I'd imagine there's no fee - in effect they'll just be taking over the cost of his contract.

Well that was a waste of 500K. Hope he doesn’t come boomeranging back.
