Murphy Out For Rest Of Season

Recommended Posts

On Radio Scotland (I know, I know) the other night, someone, a journo, a little better informed that the usual indolent crew, made the point that research in Scandinavia indicated, and indicated actually quite clearly, that the incidence of injuries on plastic is not significantly worse than that of grass.

The begged question was avoided, naturally enough, given that it was a Rangers' player who was injured. No one asked:

Are types of injuries generally the same?

Do plastic pitches produce a higher %age of injuries to ligaments, tendons, cartilages?

Are the injuries produced by plastic pitches of greater severity than those produced on grass?

These questions must be readily answerable from the research, unless of course, they were never asked.

Really bad news, the surface should be banned, remember AFAIK the return euro game is on a plastic surface.

Research into safer types of footwear for these surfaces might be an answer as they are likely to go away.

And were the plastic pitches they tested well watered? Because Rugby Park certainly wasn't.

Anyone who has played on these parks will know that they are actually decent pitches to play on but there's no question you're more likely to injure yourself because there is no give in the ground and the drier the pitch the more dangerous it is.
