[FT] Rangers 5 - 1 St Johnstone (Tavernier 9, Morelos 33, Arfield 51, Lafferty 73, Candeias 79)

Have to beat Livi away next week which surprisingly might even be trickier than the following league match which will be Hearts at Ibrox. Livi are a surprise package and to some extent so are Hearts but I feel Hearts have had a relatively easy ride so far in some ways and maybe even carried a bit of luck.

Yes they beat the yahoos (with one of our players netting the goal) but so have Kilmarnock and no one sees them as challengers. They're not a free scoring team and we are. They scored just 1 against Dunfermline in the last round of the league cup and none at home against Livi yesterday.

Most of their league wins finish 1-0 in their favour and that wont cut it against a high scoring team like us. It might be the case that they flatter to deceive but we will find out in just 2 weeks when they come to Ibrox.

Need to beat Livi and then Hearts to close that gap to the top. I feel we have the team and the options available to do it.

Lafferty is already showing signs he’ll be an important player this season in terms of goals. Such finesse in that finish. And on the back of another instinctive striker’s finish on Thursday too, I think we’ll see plenty more of it.

I thought Lafferty's finish yesterday showed the composure you want to see in your strikers when faced with only the goalkeeper.

Good to have him aboard.

The league table really emphasises how poor a start it's been for Celtic and Aberdeen. Their goals scored tallies are woeful! It's early days and we do have a tougher run of games coming up now, but you can't help but feel a little bit vindicated even at this stage after so many of the pundits writing us off as 3rd best even after our European run, and Chris McLaughlin saying we "look capable of competing for 2nd" after drawing with Aberdeen.

We are only a point ahead of Celtic so best not get too carried away.

But what the table shows is that the points total doesn't tell the whole story.

Aberdeen and Celtic have no less than they deserve given their goals for and against, whilst we look unlucky (bad decisions at the sheep pen) to be in the position we are in.
