SFA to meet Scottish Premiership clubs over referee and appeal issues

Recommended Posts

The Scottish FA will meet with Scottish Premiership clubs on Thursday night in the wake of a number of recent refereeing and appeal controversies.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell will chair a meeting in Perth which will be attended by the refereeing department and the SFA's compliance officer Clare Whyte, as well as club officials.

The meeting was agreed on at the start of December but is only taking place now due to the hectic festive fixture schedule and the winter break.

It has been arranged as a way of "opening lines of communication and encouraging debate" between all parties, in the wake of a number of controversies involving referees and the appeals system this season.

The meeting comes a week after a gathering of referees in Edinburgh during the winter break to discuss issues that have arisen so far this season.

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke has confirmed he won't attend the meeting. However, the managers of the four big Glasgow and Edinburgh clubs, as well as Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, are all expected to be there.

The fallout from last month's Old Firm game, which resulted in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos escaping sanctions after being involved in three separate incidents with Celtic players, and referee John Beaton being subjected to threats, will be among the topics discussed.

The only fall out was ST Pats FC whining again because they got beat, as they do every time they get beat, always cheated never defeated

Of course, you are correct.

Ra Sellik's statement demanded John Beaton and other referees should be made to explain their decisions post match. The usual on message types in main stream media rationalised it and supported such an inquisition. Last week, the elected Chair of ra Sellik supporters' association, (Mad) Joe O'Rourke presented the idea of referees being confined to a room, whilst representatives of clubs and supporters berated/inquired as to the derivation of decisions, as reasonable. It would appear elements of Scottish football as well as politics, makes for queer bedfellows? Mad Joe, Chris Sutton, John Hartson, and Tom English should be the next cast for, 'Four Men in a Boat'.

Ra Sellik are proposing a Spanish Inquisition, we must know who is to be the nominated Auto da fe?

Whoever from Rangers will be present need to highlight the anti Morelos agenda!

I would be surprised if it wasn't, given Gerrard is apparently going to be in attendance and both he and Mark Allen have said in recent days that Morelos needs protection.

There needs to be a better way of deciding what gets referred to the Compliance Officer. The current method of allowing the Celtic-minded press to decide is clearly flawed,

Agreed, nobody knows who/how or why incidents are brought to the attention of the compliance officer, as it stands it seems BBC Sportscene is the route! also all incidents in every match must be fairly analysed otherwise it is unfair! maybe the refs & assistants can watch games back?
