Who should be the new manager?

Recommended Posts

Ancelotti looks strong favourite at this point imo. Worked at Everton with Purdy.

Thelwell and Purdy have been in the works for a while it seems so this might be why Ancelotti is in the picture at all.

Gerrard Mk11 is not what we need.

Tactically, we have no idea how Ancelotti will set up, so that statement is rather unfounded.

We know exactly what tactics Martin employs, as will every other manager in the division.

Heard on the 4Lads podcast the other night, Steve Clifford was saying Russel Martins Southampton team, the year they won promotion to the EPL finished 4th. Got in via a good playoff run. Conceded a lot of goals, didn't defend well. Saints fans had said there were games they were needing a late goal with minutes to go and the team were passing the ball about at the back.

compo's a maverick.  One minute he's banging on about the Iron Curtain defence or Jim Baxter, the next minute he's saying we should change our home strip or to dismiss our history.

Feels like there is a word to describe his posts.

Well we can look forward to having a team that will make sure they finish mid-table if Everton are anything to go by🙄

If the new owners employ Ancelotti any excitement and positivity from Friday instantly disappears. Gerrard Mk11 is not what we need.

We don't know what Ancelotti -and, importantly his coaches, fitness, medics, etc.- will bring as head coach to Rangers.

Therefore, we can't assume that he would be 'Gerrard Mark II', can we?

We do know what Russell Martin will give us, and if that is what the new owners want, then God help us.

"Ah've goat an offer tae go tae The Rangers. The block in charge is Russell Martin. (Ah know! A hipster, wi' nae Plan B.)

His burd's goat a crackin' perr, but."

I’ve got a mate who supports Southampton and messaged me the other night saying pretty much the same thing, that Russell Martin was never a particularly popular manager, even before they got promoted. He confirmed the whole "if plan A doesn’t work, do plan A better" mentality and also said Martin had a habit of blaming everyone except himself when things went sideways

Couple of direct quotes from him:

“He is so horribly smug.”

“Even in the Championship we got hammered by anyone decent. Got promoted with something like the 7th worst defence in the league.”

“He’s never improved a team or finished above expectations.”
