Using Cortes as an example of a waste of millions. 4 million fee, 5 year deal at 12k p/w (Illustrative costs, may not be accurate) = £7,120,000 over the duration. Now, lets look at Matondo. 2.5 million fee, 4 years at 28k p/w (Illustrative costs, may not be accurate) = £8,324,000 over the duration. Is it as bad as you first thought? Also take into account the boy is 21, not 22 until December. He could have a decent 6 months and we could easily sell at a profit. I doubt there is something about "games played" involved, since he so far "participated" in 9 (as in: nine) games this season, playing 271 mins. It were 7 games last season (from March 2024).
