Record £125m SPL TV Deal

Recommended Posts

With IRA TV starting to move in on SKY's markets for EPL etc, the question must be asked if SKY would have been prepared to try to outbid IRA TV for Scottish football rights. I believe they would have as it is getting quite fierce between the two, and as we all know a bidding war can only escalate the price artificially high.

It looks as if this has not went out to tender as it is an extension to the existing deal, and therefore SKY were not even asked.

Disgusting management from the incompetants at the SPL, and as a result we are stuck with biased and poor quality tv footage of our game in this country, watched by tiny viewing figures, run by a Company with a clear agenda to make one team look good and another look bad.

Why we never pushed for Gold to be sacked is beyond me, and this is yet another example of his poor management.

Perhaps Sky weren't interested? If that was the case it would make sense not to publicise it.

Furthermore, the initial deal may have had performance related clauses inserted to ensure Setanta were allowed first option at an agreed rate.

The good news is that we make more money while the station is apparently losing lots of Rangers fans as customers.

why do you call setanta "ira tv"? they're irish, certainly, but what's the link with the ira?

There have been reports of the 2 owners singing pro-IRA songs, I believe, although the alleged incident took place prior to them setting up Setanta.

Got to be said I hate Sky which is way overpriced and the system is far too proprietary - so I welcome an alternative like Setanta at a reasonable 10 quid a month. I haven't paid Sky a penny since they installed my sat freeview system on a one off payment and I hope I never do. I don't even have to have a land line anymore which saves me about £130 a year for something I don't ever use (700 minutes per month on my mobile and I have mobile broadband).

You can even get Setanta on digital terrestrial which means you actually get to be able to buy the receiver box that you want even with things like free "sky+" and HDMI out.

Can't believe anyone is championing an evil company like Sky...

The more competition from companies like Setanta the better a satellite system we'll get at much better prices.

Please, please SPL, don't go to Sky!
