Friendly in between CL qualifier

Recommended Posts

Just been looking at our fixtures and see we have the Liverpool friendly this Saturday which lands in between the CL double header.

Im not quite sure why we have scheduled for this friendly, surely qualifying for the CL has to be the main aim and having an extra game between the qualifier could be a mistake if any player were to pick up injuries. It may give players an extra 90 mins under there belt but id still not rather risk anyone.

Agree. It's a crazy decision, given our propensity to pick up more than our share of injuries. Moreover, if we lose heavily - and that is a possibility - what will that do to our confidence?

It makes moaning about not being able to cancel games before last seasons Euro games a bit of a mockery. If we want to cancel this year we can be told "you played before the Kaunus game when it wasn't necessary so you have to play now"

I think the difference here is that players are still trying to get match fit.

Indeed and this is a chance to play against one of the biggest european teams, will give our players experience before getting chucked into the deep end. Which could be in the 3rd qualifier.

Alos it's a way of making money, glamour friendly. Liverpool bringing a large support up, Rangers fans will mostly sell ou the rest of the ground. Should be a good game, good atmosphere, although nothing will beat the Chelsea game for me

It could be all about match fitness but do we really need a glamourous tie like Liverpool to do this in between the Kaunas games. I think it would have been better played last weekend rather than before our trip for a 2nd leg.
