Well in for Webster

Recommended Posts

Not sure what I think about this one. Even with Cuellar gone, we're not exactly left short of options at CB, but a couple of those options are dubious at best when it comes to quality. That said, he hasn't played regular football for a long time (the same applies to Stevie Smith) and it could prove to be a costly gamble for us to bring him straight back into the fold. Could be a good idea, but then if he gets off to a flyer and we're left struggling in defence till January, the knives will be out.

Webster has to be up there with Gow as the most baffling signings ever. At least when we sign the likes of Capucho they quickly move on, but Webster is still hanging around. Either he is fit or he is not, if not get rid of him.

If he's on loan, do we not have the right to recall him at any time? They could do us a favour by getting him match fit. Only thing is with missing out on Loovens we need another CB. Hope we don't resurrect our interest in Shittu after the way he messed us about.

I think the situation with Webster is pretty simple to understand. He's a very promising young player, who cost us next to nothing. Unfortunately he's been injured for a while, which was sustained when training with us.

At Rangers we don't always have the breathing space to get players into the team when they are not yet match fit, especially when they've almost never actually played for the team. Putting him out on loan seems an eminently intelligent thing to do.

He gets fully match fit without jeopordising any results and at the same time we save a few pennies in wages. If he looks like he will never recapture his previous form then we can see that from a distance and move him on. If he looks fantastic, we get him back as soon as possible and into the team.

As for the vagaries of his transfer, his case is unusual due to the rules he used and the rules against him moving directly to another Scottish club. Rangers seem to have worked with the rules and instead of a proper transfer and contract which would not have been allowed, a gentleman's agreement seems to have sufficed.

I actually have high hopes for Webster,if he could just keep free from injury I honestly think the guy will go on to be a great CB for Rangers, letting him go out on a short term loan is an ideal way of getting him back to what we all know he can do.

Shittu has already moved to WBA has he not ?

Re recalling Webster at any time you need to have that written into the loan agreement - is is optional.

Yeh, you're right re Shittu. We do need a CB now, though, even if Webster stays. Feels funny saying that after we've all been screaming for Mf players!
