I don't disagree mate, but I was drawn to part of dB's point (which was mostly missed in the replies I read) where he differentiated between developing younger, less experienced players and elder more experienced ones. Ally's made it easy for himself to win the lower league titles by keeping and bringing in a lot of elder, vastly experienced pros, but by doing so he's made it difficult for himself to show that he's capable of improving and developing players. At the end of the day, Ally's been able to sign a fairly large number of players over the past 25/26 months and rightly or wrongly he's mostly chosen the safe option of bringing in experienced pros as opposed to the riskier option of developing younger, less experienced players.

Gersnet Prediction League 2014/15 (prediction league for Rangers games only!)
Zappa replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
BH, anyone going away on holiday or business can post their predictions for matches they'll miss in here or send me them via PM and I'll post them in the relevant predictions thread when necessary. I've already done that for quite a few people. -
I'd say if you asked all of our players every single one of them would claim that they constantly try to improve themselves and some do actually manage to do that through hard work and dedication. Likewise with the manager and his coaching staff, it's guaranteed that if asked about it they would say that of course they do try to improve their players. As we all know though, what the players and management team say they do (or are going to do) isn't necessarily always in line with what they actually do. We're constantly told they're trying to and aiming to improve, become more consistent, create more scoring chances, take more chances etc etc etc, but they are always just one or two poor performances or results away from not doing so.
-
Regarding improving players, some of our players are just crap and aren't going to improve much (if at all) at the age of 30+.
-
If we're still sitting here with the same squad of players this time next year, then more than 10 of them would be over 30 years of age. Here's what an 'over 30s' Rangers line-up could look like next season: Simonsen(36) McGregor(30) - Jig(37) - Zaliukas(31/32) - Smith(30) Foster(30) - Black(30/31) - Shiels(30/31) Daly(32/33) - Boyd(32) - Miller(35/36)

Ally McCoist "makes you sick" and you "hate him" etc..... It's getting beyond repetitive.

Boyd, Miller & Macleod have all been dropped to the bench folks, so some of you might want to think about editing your prediction post to change your FGS prediction. -

I'm sure he'll be fondly remembered by the Celtic family for his focus on Rangers.

I would like to offer my condolences along with a tune from this wee violin.

Dear doctor, the way Bill talks about Dave King is like reading something on a Rangers obsessed tim site.

According to multiple reports, Stoney came off the bench for Stranraer on the 67th minute and Kyle McAusland didn't feature for Brechin due to an injury issue as he was to get a late fitness test, but was classed as doubtful by Ray McKinnon on Friday.

Poor effort of a loan watch from the media team's new Geordie reporter Alice Hedworth.... Tuesday, 21 October 2014 16:14 Loan Watch Written by Alice Hedworth CALUM Gallagher was once again the stand out performer of the week. The 20-year old scored a header to contribute to Cowdenbeath’s 3-2 win over Alloa on Saturday. The striker has now played five games Cowden, scoring three goals. Daniel Stoney was an unused substitute as Stranraer beat Brechin City 2-1 in League One. Kyle McAusland didn’t feature for his loan side Brechin. Robbie Crawford had chances to score for Morton, as they were beaten 1-0 by Ayr but he couldn’t convert. The 21-year old played 77 minutes before being replaced. The result meant Ayr leapfrogged Morton into third. Luca Gasparotto returned from international duty with Canada to play the full 90 minutes for Airdrieonians as they drew 1-1 with Peterhead. Tom Walsh too was returning from international duty – his with Scotland’s U19s – and he helped Stenhousemuir to a 4-0 win over Stirling. http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/7889-loan-watch

I do think we're going to need to get rid of some of our players and replace them with much better quality for our top flight return, but as most others here have said, the squad of players we currently have should definitely be good enough to win this division and get automatic promotion. Our back 4 is definitely the weakest link in the squad and that's where we're going to need some major improvements for the top flight return. In the meantime, there's things which can be done to improve the back line. Faure was better at right back last season than Foster was, so it's an obvious option for the manager to give Faure another chance at right back if Foster continues to make costly mistakes. It's the central defensive partnership where Ally has a real headache to deal with, but it's a headache of his own making and he desperately needs to sort it out ASAP. The Jig + Mohsni partnership can be strong against poor teams, but often isn't good enough against decent quality opposition who are well organised, pass & move and attack us with pace. Zaliukas is a half decent defender, but as predicted, he's proving to be injury prone, so is destined to be missing a lot of games and that's not good for consistency in our central defense. McGregor is also a half decent defender, but he doesn't have much experience having only really played one full season in the top flight. At left back I think we have two very good players in Wallace and Smith, but I think they're also both enigmas or paradoxes because you wouldn't say that defending is actually the strong point of either player.

Exactly dB, but it's easy for us (myself included!) to sit here and type posts on Gersnet saying that Dave King or one of his associates should spend their money buying out shareholders who paid nothing (or virtually nothing) for their shares. The reality though, is that while it might make sense for us, it might not make sense for them. It's another tough call because just for example, if Margarita wanted 50p per share, then it would only cost Dave King £1.3m to buy their 2.6m shares, but it would only be 3.19% of the company as things stand, so not necessarily enough to definitely tip the balance at an AGM vote. It might require 10% or more, so then you'd be getting into £4m+ territory going to faceless people who've paid next to nothing for their shareholding.
-
It might well end up in a stalemate Rab, we'll just have to wait and see.
-
As I said to Ruff, why not just buy one or two of the so-called 'investors' in that group out? Even at an inflated price of about 50p a share, it would only take a couple of million to make a big dent in that Easdale fronted voting block.
-
The number of their shares certainly wouldn't be diluted, it would be the percentage of their shareholding and voting power which would be diluted if King & co were successful, so you're basically right. At the moment the Laxey holding is 16.32% of the company, but if Dave King & co were successful, then Laxey's percentage holding would essentially be cut in half. You might well be right about their possible thoughts on the matter moving forward too because around 8% of a company which is back on track and in a good financial position is certainly worth more than 16% of a company which is heading for the rocks and could leave investors with shares which are worth zero or at best next to nothing. It's a tough call though and obviously we're yet again left in a position where all we can do is guess and speculate. Personally, I think Dave King & co should seriously consider buying out one or two of the investors in the 26.15% Easdale/GreenCo/Blue Pitch block because even if they wanted 50p per share it could tip the balance of power and end up being 2 or 3 million well spent.
-
Where does the "over 20k" figure come from?
-
Laxey played it cute a year ago. Making out as if they would vote along with the wishes of the supporters, but then voting with the status quo was possibly because their % vote at the AGM wasn't going to be enough to pass the resolutions from McColl & co anyway. Let's not forget that they already had their man Crighton on the board and wouldn't have wanted to risk losing that position of boardroom influence and inside info.
-
Regarding Keith Jackson saying "if Wallace, Nash and Crighton remain in agreement then this package will receive boardroom support": I can't really comprehend why Laxey's representative Norman Crighton would vote in favour of King & co's offer because Laxey have invested millions in buying 13.3 million shares and won't be keen to see that shareholding massively diluted. Going by their previous actions - including their participation in the recent Open Offer - it would seem far more likely that Laxey would want to increase their shareholding in a further share issue as opposed to see it diluted.
