  1. That's good, the way it should be. Don't understand why the club chairman would make that statement, he seems to run off at the mouth at times. Just like he did when talking about buying the old company back.

  3. Why is this statement being made by the chairman of the club? The fans groups should be completely independent of the club, the last thing we need is another company union type organisation. "Work is also ongoing to merge the existing supporters groups. The new organisation that emerges will provide Rangers fans with a way to get even closer to the Club and to increase the supporter shareholding position."

  8. Wee question regarding the dance part. Not attended for a few years but when I did it was at least 90% male, has the male to female balance been redressed lately? Not against any males dancing together, each to their own.

  11. RST Statement on Herald Action over Graham Spiers The RST notes the Herald’s action over columnists Graham Spiers and Angela Haggerty. Their decision has predictably led to an outcry from those who encourage the sort of dishonest commentary on Rangers Football Club for which both rose to some degree of prominence. We feel it is important against that backdrop to try to present some facts surrounding this incident. Graham Spiers has a history of telling lies about Rangers Football Club and its fans. The Herald’s only mistake in their dealings with Spiers came in allowing him to print false allegations about a Rangers director in the first place. Spiers claims to have been appalled at the comments he falsely attributed to this unnamed director. So appalled that it took a full five months, from the date of the meeting at which he claims the comments were made, for him to write about it. The Herald lawyers were asked, following Rangers’ decision to challenge the story, if Spiers' false claims could be defended. They could not. Spiers could not provide a single shred of proof of the allegations he was making. The Herald, with Spiers’ full knowledge, correctly apologised for his behaviour. His subsequent comments saw him undermine the Herald and their editor in chief through the furtherance of a dishonest social media campaign. Spiers has been caught lying about Rangers before. He lied on live television about his view on EBT payments. He claimed never to have said they amounted to cheating only for documented proof to show that he had. Spiers quite simply cannot be trusted to tell the truth where Rangers are concerned. Angela Haggerty has described Rangers fans - ordinary men, women and children - as “the klan’. She has also supported the vile hate-speech used by her mentor, Phil MacGiollabhain. This includes likening normal Scottish football fans to Nazis through the use of terms like “Herrenvolk”. Rather than prominent publications and commentators lowering themselves to Miss Haggerty’s level, they have a duty to deal responsibly with sensitive and serious matters. The Rangers Supporters Trust would be fully behind any initiative that raises the level of debate around offensive behaviour and attempts to find genuine solutions rather than casting Rangers supporters as the pantomime villain. There have been allegations of ‘mob rule’ regarding the action taken by the Herald. It may well be the case that mob rule exists in Scotland but not as it is being presented. This mob has crowdfunded websites and donations to fund their obsession. This mob has a hardcore of gullible supporters for whom the continued existence and return to prominence and prosperity of Rangers Football Club is anathema. This mob has some friendly journalists, happy to write falsehoods about the target of their hatred. This mob has some friendly politicians, always ready with a soundbite on the target of their shared prejudice. This mob is incensed at the use of any legitimate, legal mechanisms to challenge them. If the Scottish Government is serious about challenging offensive behaviour then they should attack it at the root. They should address the issue of those who use the internet to spread hate speech and propaganda. Those who, on a daily basis, dehumanise normal people based on the football club they support. It might be more expensive and it might be more difficult but it would also be more successful in getting to the core of the problem. Nothing will be gained by continuing to target the people sitting in football stadia on Saturday afternoons with their families and friends, and it is to the Scottish Government’s shame that they still have not realised that. - See more at: http://www.therst.co.uk/news/rst-statement-on-herald-action-over-graham-spiers/#sthash.cmGdlQPS.dpuf
  12. You can add to that the SFA decision on Match tickets prices for the next WC qualifiers.
  13. Bells Caledonia say they will print her article. This from their site; Poor piece Mike, weird piece. Club not dealt with other who criticise (see Richard Wilson’s piece) in this manner. Speirs has been seen by many Rangers fans to have lied and manipulated facts for years. Also are you not connected to AH through Common Space? Vested interest / nepotism? She also connected to a man described as “being tarred by a sectarian brush”. Other clubs have banned and impacted journalists in this way, DUNDEE United and Celtic the most resent examples. This is not a new tactic, and in not the threat to Scottish democracy just the club finally having enough of a a man see as a troll disguised as a journalist by many, who abuses that fine profession. Journalists have a responsibility to inform, report and share their views on what what they think and see based on evidence, not goad, provoke and make “stuff” up, as many Rangers fans feel. This type of piece in pure hyperbole, reinforces prejudice (see some of the posts above, “bigots” “facist underclass”) and does not inform debate, but just throws more shit around a darkened room. Some of the highlights quoted from else where One of my earliest memories was his blatant lie that Rangers fans sang (about German superstar Jurgen) “Klinsmann’s a Klansman” at Ibrox. Complete and utter bollocks. He further claimed that Rangers fans sang songs about the tragic death of former Celtic player Tommy Coyne’s wife. Complete fabrication. Another contention of his was that former Ranger Ian Ferguson had “all the charm of a child molester”. A pleasant analogy I’m sure you’d agree. I would wager that Spiers would not express his strikingly odd views during a face-to-face meeting with our former midfielder. In July 1996 whilst with Scotland On Sunday he penned a deplorable attack on the late great Jock Wallace the day after he passed away, the inference being that Wallace was a bully and a bigot and responsible for sectarianism in Scottish football. Spiers twisted insinuations flew completely in the face of former Celtic captain Andy Lynch who said this on hearing of Wallace’s passing “He would always take the time (prior to Old Firm encounters) in the nervy pre-match atmosphere, be it at Parkhead or Ibrox, to come and give me a warm handshake or hug and sincere best wishes……smart, kind and sensitive. He will be sadly missed.” Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell echoed Lynch’s sentiments “It doesn’t matter what side of the fence you were on, I don’t think you will find anyone in Scottish football who had a bad word to say about him. It was always a pleasure to be in his company and talk to him. His crack was different class.” Almost correct Tommy. You WILL find someone who has a bad word to say about him. Graham Spiers. Bad-mouthing deceased Rangers heroes has since become a theme for this creature. He has written disrespectful articles on late greats Bill Struth, Jim Baxter and Davie Cooper. Of course as with Wallace none of them were here to defend themselves. Spiers wrote the following on the eve last seasons’ League Cup Final against Motherwell, a game dedicated to Coop’s memory: “More remarkable, though, amid the media and marketing frenzy surrounding the game, is the way the memory of Cooper’s career has become lodged halfway between legend and myth………..One problem with the Davie Cooper legend is that, as with many public personalities who die young and become subject to mythology, it doesn’t wholly square with the facts of his career. For a so-called “genius”, you would certainly have expected Cooper, who died at 39, to have won more than his 22 international caps.” To write the above just hours prior to a game played in tribute to Davie where his family would be in attendance was nothing short of despicable. On Struth: “Bill Struth was either an idol or an idiot depending on your point of view”. There you are Mr. Murray, according to Speirs you may have unveiled a statue of an idiot at half-time during the Moenchengladbach game. Spiers had started his one-man campaign of anti-Rangers bile long before he joined the Herald. One of my earliest memories was his blatant lie that Rangers fans sang (about German superstar Jurgen) “Klinsmann’s a Klansman” at Ibrox.

  16. GRAHAM SPIERS STATEMENT JANUARY 27TH, 2016 THE HERALD’S APOLOGY TO RANGERS FC I feel I need to explain the context of The Herald clarification/apology published today regarding my column about Rangers FC and the fight against bigoted chanting. Rangers took exception to a column I wrote in which I questioned “the mettle” of the current club board in tackling offensive chanting. This opinion was based on the fact that, at a meeting I attended at Ibrox Stadium on August 31st 2015, a Rangers director told me that he thought The Billy Boys was “a great song”. I subsequently expressed my dismay at the director’s comment in an email exchange with Rangers. There was, and is, no question of me calling any Rangers director a bigot. Rangers duly complained to The Herald about my column. As the weeks passed a dispute arose, and the pressure brought upon the newspaper became severe. The Herald told me repeatedly that they now had to find a way to a public resolution with Rangers. Having searched many avenues to reach an agreement with the club, the newspaper ultimately denied my request to withhold any clarification/apology until my own position was clearer. The Herald has never told me that they disbelieved my version of events. I also retain the highest regard for Magnus Llewellin, the paper’s editor who has tried to resolve this problem. My opinion – as expressed in my column – was based on a truthful account of my meeting with a Rangers director. ABOUT GRAHAM SPIERS Graham Spiers is a Scottish sports journalist who currently writes for The Herald and The Times, and also works for the BBC. He has won Scotland’s Sports Journalist of the Year award four times.
