Fine by me but why aren't ST holders auto sold the tickets; it's going to be a nightmare if 40,000 people are trying to buy a ticket on a premium rate number. -
Baseball must take the prize for the most coaches I think. Apart from the Manager who spends most of the time in the dugout except when he's arguing with the umpires; there is a bench coach/assistant manager; pitching coach, bullpen coach who seems to little other than make sure the relievers warm up properly,;hitting coach (obvious) and 1st and 3rd base coaches, the latter of whom does carry a lot of responsibility in stopping or sending hitters home. So that's at least six not counting athletic and conditioning coaches, bullpen and practice catchers. How about we start with offensive and defensive coaches as in American Football and throw in a MF coach for good measure

Or spoof folks with alleged points deductions for miss-spelling in the Prediction League.

And Los Afficionados de Athletic Bilbao will not exactly be overjoyed at the potential loss of their trip to the not exactly neutral Camp Nou for the Final of the Copa del Rey v Barcelona on the 30th of May. Trips were advertised all over the city when I was there last week. Still I suppose that's better than arriving in the wrong country http://metro.co.uk/2012/05/11/dozy-athletic-bilbao-fans-miss-europa-league-final-after-budapest-balls-up-422184/ -
Desperate situations require desperate measures so I have roped in my son-in-law and his friend who say they will pay tomorrow. On the other hand the RFB member (not FS) and wife who said they were coming has not responded to a follow up text and has not paid. FS x2 and BD have both indicated they are hoping to attend but as yet are unpaid. One other Gersnet member asked for the bank details to pay but has also not responded to a follow up PM and has not paid. Therefore, at this time we still only have 10 paid and 4/5 committed but not paid, plus the speaker i.e. 15/16. This leaves us in a difficult situation with enough to go ahead but not enough to get the restaurant to ourselves; and that in turn puts the speach in jeopardy. SteveC kindly offered to let us use his payments x2 effectively to make up the numbers pro tem (but that would need to repaid with "free"places next time) and it has also been suggested that we might each pay a bit more in order effectively to buy the numbers up to 20. That would cost us about £2.50 - £3.33 each. I am not attracted to either of these suggestions not least because the restaurant are doing the deal because they want bums on seats who are going to drink as well as eat. So my plan at the moment is to run with the paid numbers as at KO time at Palmerston this Saturday and make the best arrangement that I can with the restaurant. The outcome may well be that we have a general Q&A with Robert rather than a set speach, so again any alternative topic suggestions will be welcome as standbys. Better still would be that another 4/5 people sign up

When I was your tender age we had the likes of the wonderful Alexei Mikhailichenko, Huistra, Durrant and McCoist to score the goals they made. Happy birthday.

The American draft system in sports has a lot to commend it but I'm not certain that we have the depth of talent or foundations in the lower leagues to replicate it here. The salary cap wouldn't work here because there is too big a disparity in earnings between the teams.

A 14 team league would only have 26 games playing twice not 30. If the 10 remaining after the split play twice that means an additonal 18 games which means a total of 44 which is too many. If the 8 teams in the "middle" league play twice that is an additional 14 games, so they only play, 40 in total? Also you seem to be saying that some in the bottom 4 would not be relegated but some in the top 10 might be relegated?

You are definitiely correct about the police being involved in the pre-game briefings and equally that the match commander has control of his forces inside the stadium. It's a minor point but as I understand it it is up to each individual officer to decide if certain conduct constitutes "offensive behaviour" within the meaning of the law, but there is no doubt that they receive guidance and may indeed be directed by a more senior officer. I don't think that the TV companies are involved in the briefings but I can find out. I take your point that IF the police are responsible for crowd control, why should a club be held liable; but I think the issue is that the police are only one element of crowd control; others being for example stadium design, stewarding, public announcements etc.

What is the ticket situation for Saturday? I got one for both league games but nothing so far for the play-off game.
-
I'm not certain about this but I don't think the police have the final say INSIDE the stadium. Certainly policing was much reduced as aresult of all-seater stadia. I do know that the stewarding requirements are set by the Local Authority (Green Book) which was why Hearts got away with not even being charged when Mr Lennon was attacked at Tynecastle because they could prove that they had all the required stewards.

I'd have 2 up, 2 down at least and a play off for one or two more places.
