  1. Do you get a free pass for the car park with your fat cat soft seat?
  2. If we only had trams like Edinburgh.
  3. Gosh that's a good question. I lived on the south side until I was 30 but bear in mind I was refereeing from age 15 to 33 so mostly only saw midweek games. I lived in Shawlands so as a youngster if I recall there was a bus from Minard Rd that went over to Ibrox, couldn't tell you the number. When I finished refereeing I was involved in Amateur Football and in England for a while but from the mid 80's I would have had the car. However, I have a strong recollection of getting the Underground like you to Copland Rd as a boy and having to stand in those enormously long queues on the way back. That must have been when I lived further out and I think I got a bus and then the underground.
  4. I sometimes get a bus into town and then the undergound from Buchanan St but most often take the car, park in Pollokshields and walk over the footbridge. 5. Of course it SHOULD be irrelevant BUT, clearly it is not. It would appear that both the investment per se and the amount thereof, if any, depends on him passing the fit and proper test and thus taking up the position of Chairman of the Board. Perhaps GS could say if Mr King mentioned that as a pre-condition at any point prior to buying shares in the Club?
  6. There us no point in meeting at the shop this time. Can everyone just go straight there asap after the match. Thanks.
  7. I think this fine gesture is in danger of getting sidestracked a bit.
  8. Ultimately DK did not have any option but to "submit" to the F&P test. Clubs are obliged to submit an Annual Return naming all directors and others with a role in managing the Club and the SFA are entitled to decide at that point if any such person is fit and proper. He knew this would arise so he pre-empted it by asking them to decide now.
  9. I didn't think it would be this difficult to give away tickets to deserving cases.
  10. For the reason you state there is no chance of a return to a 10 team league in the foreseeable future. The way round the additional games needed as well as 4 OF games a season is a return to the old sectional style regionalised League Cup, so Rangers would play Celtic twice at the start of the season in the LC and depending on success other clubs would have a chance of "extra" games v one of the OF. Also one of the OF would go out in the sections (group winners only go through), thus increasing other club's chances of winning the competition. This would guarantee all SPL teams an extra 6 matches, this bringing the League/League Cup total to 36 with additional games for whoever wins the sections. The SPL teams would be in 4 x4 and the rest if still 42 total - 4x6/7. Eight to qualify for the QF. When this was last mooted in 2011/12, the proposal was for 2 to qualify for a round of 16 which would mean that although Rangers and Celtic matches in the group stage would be much less meaningful, both would go through most times so that more of the rest would get extra games v the OF. The nature of this type of early season competition would be such that clubs could use these matches to try out youths, trialists, new players, different formations etc.
  11. Actually looking at his record here http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=19499, there were 21 sub appearances in the 95 league matches reported by Wikipedia, so 44 goals is more than decent and overall with us he scored 57 in 102 starts and 30 sub appearances. (This site also reports the fee as £2m) He is the all time leading scorer for Georgia (26 in 61) and scored a phenomenal 31 in 61 games in Europe. http://www.rsssf.com/players/sarveladze-in-ec.html
  12. Alex McLeish once told me a very funny story about the same thing re Nacho Novo; if you get me drunk on Sunday I might tell it but not sure I can manage Novo's Glesca/Spanish accent.
  13. If you are interested in the history of the Club as your name suggests you should come along to hear Rangers Historian, Robert McElroy at the Gersnet Dinner after the match on Sunday! http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?69926-The-3rd-Semi-Annual-Gersnet-Dinner-with-Guest-Rangers-Historian-Robert-McElroy
  14. Arveladze was a goal scoring machine so naturally we stuck him out on the wing and we were the only club where he averaged less than a goal every other game (league games) which he did throught his career. He was enormously successful at AZ when he went back at age 32 in 2005. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shota_Arveladze How about GS's friend Vuckic for no.10 as per last week.
  15. You'll be homeless then.
  16. Neil Doncaster has always been in favour of a 16 team league but the Clubs are not because of the loss of 2 home games v the old firm; however, not having had Rangers games for 3 seasons (and possibly more) should have allowed them to adjust their finances. Ditto the TV companies who place little or no value on any games other than the old firm and to a lesser extent the Edinburgh derby, which they may lose next season. Without wishing to rekindle a debate that has been done to death, from a footballing perspective the vast majority of fans and professionals in the game in Scotland are in favour of the top league at least being 16 or 18 teams and most agree that 2 leagues of 16 is the best solution, with the rest joining the regional set up.
  17. Player's transfer fees are amortized (written off) over the period of their contracts and a balancing adjustment made when they are sold, so it would not have been in our interests to undervalue the player in the accounts because that would boost our profits and hence the tax we paid for the years that he was here. The fee itself was no doubt paid over a period of time and may have been subject to add ons for appearances etc. It is quite possible that the £2m reported was just the initial fee. The actual amount of money that we paid from time to time would have been reflected in our bank balances which are factual and audited at given dates. Transfer fees etc are not individually reported in the accounts so it would be very difficult if not impossible to check although there may have been statements in the notes. The pound was just under €1.60 in late August 2001 so €12m would have been £7.5m. The BBC reported "Arveladze, who joined in a deal believed to be worth around £3m" Wednesday, 29 August, 2001, 20:16 GMT 21:16 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/1515958.stm
  18. I didn't mean new posts to me I appreciate that if I reply to a thread it's not a new post to me; I did mean forum latest posts; but thanks anyway; it was a slightly tongue in cheek comment.
