This was the UEFA Cup game with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in November 2006; so under UEFA rules Rangers were responsible for anything that happens inside the ground. If memory serves he was dragged away before he managed to actually handcuff himself to the goal post. It was the fact he got on to the park that caused Rangers to be fined £4,000 but I'd rather have that than be fenced in as happens at many European grounds. It's a fair point but Celtic fans have been getting away with all sorts of nonsense at Parkhead in domestic football whereas they get fined every time in Europe. Strict liability means there are no excuses.

I would scrap the "reasonably practible" defence which allows clubs an easy way out of unacceptable behaviour by their fans at home, and substitute with the "strict liability" that applies in Europe; meaning that if your fans misbehave you are liable, full stop.

Keith Jackson: beleaguered SFA board prepare to rule on Dave King
BrahimHemdani replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
It would not be uncommon in a situation like this for the SFA to have given Mr King notice that they were "minded to declare that he was not fit and proper" but give him a final chance to prove otherwise. That might explain the delay. One would assume that he has made similar arguments to P Murray re being a member of the board when the club suffered an insolvency event so will have cleared that hurdle; but despite all that has been said about the SA regime etc etc his convictions for offences carrying a 2- year jail term might be more difficult to explain away. In any event, he is well advised not to make any public comment pending the outcome. -
Hi Jama88 Consider attending the 3rd Semi Annual Gersnet Dinner after the QoS game on 17 May where you can put faces and voices to the pseudonyms on here. The first two dinners were a huge success (though I say so myself) with numbers increasing from 12 this time last year to 22 in December. Rangers Historian, Robert McElroy, will speak on a little known aspect of our history - "Rangers - The War Years" http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/sh...Gersnet-Dinner PM me for payment details if interested.

And neither was Paul Sturrock. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20901595

I'd be happy to stand corrected on that but it doesn't make Mohsni less of a disgrace IMO.
-
Except when he was abusing and making rude gestures to the fans from the pitch. He is the only player I have ever seen at any level of football to perform a flying head butt at an opponent (v Derby in pre-season). He thinks he is much better than he is which leads to a propensity for mistakes. I'll take McGregor and Zaliukas over Mohsni any day of the week.

Refunds SteveC has requested and will be given a refund for himself and friend who cannot now attend on the new date. It should be noted that Steve was one of the first to commit to attending on the 23rd of May and is already out of pocket for flights. Hopefully he'll get a ticket for Easter Rd if we get past QoS. Numbers Therefore, at this time we have 10 paid and 4 committed but not paid, plus the speaker i.e. 15. I think there is a possibilty of another two call offs. We need at least 5-7 more to get the restaurant to ourselves. Deadline The deadline will need to be next Sunday so I can advise the restaurant accordingly if they are not to accept other bookings for the same night. Speaker Robert will be attending the after match press conference and then has to file copy, which means that he will not be along until approx 1.5-2.0 hrs after full time. However, this should work out in terms of dinner and we can be relaxed in terms of start time. (I have assured him he will still get his dinner!) He has asked for confirmation that we still want the topic of his speach to be "Rangers - The War Years" and given that this proposal came from Steve who cannot now attend there is an opportunity to change if desired. Any suggestions will be welcome.

I have tried to contact everyone who has paid and there have been no objections to the change of date and some positive comments above so I am changing the date of the dinner to to Sunday the 17th of May at 5.30pm for 6.00pm. (Away goals do not count double in the event of a tie on aggregate but) in the event of extra time, dinner time will go back to 6.00pm for 6.30pm.
-
Reading through the thread again, obviously I got myself a bit confused: I think what I meant to say was that: Please note that if Rangers finish 3rd in the League the dinner will be moved to Saturday the 16th of May at 5.00pm for 5.30pm, again subject to date or kick off time changes imposed for TV. The second statement was obviously nonsense because we wouldn't know whether we won or lost the Play-Off Quarter Final till the 16th of May! So I guess what I meant was that if Rangers finish 3rd in the League there was an alternative of moving the dinner to the 23rd of May as we would have no game if we lost the the Play-Off Quarter Final or we could come back to Ibrox for the dinner after the away match in the Semi Final if we won the Play-Off Quarter Final.

Thanks for that, but no worries, like you I knew this one was going to be especially difficult to arrange. I am hopefull that once we finalise the date tonight some others who have been holding back or were simply unable to come on the 23rd, will sign up. Barring objections later today, it looks like the 17th.

01/05/2015 INT EARNED £0.01 Balance £145.78 29/04/2015 Charltonman BGC Counter Credit £21.25 Balance £145.77 2x £10.75 = £21.25? Was that by special arrangement with RAB who paid 25p extra? So I make it we have 12 paid and commitments for 4 others as yet unpaid + speaker, so we really only need 3 more (net of any withdrawals) to get the restaurant to ourselves.

Looking back on some of the things I've said about this along the way The intention was always to have the dinner when we were playing our first home game in the play-offs and with due respect to Steve (for whose generous comment see #57 above) I do think that the "right" decision here (if there is a right decision) is to move the dinner to Sunday the 17th of May at 5.30pm for 6.00pm. I'll wait till 11.00pm tomorrow night to see if anyone is otherwise minded.
-
I'm at Heathrow on the way home from Bilbao but noted that despite valiant effort today we have finished third. This means the only certainty is that we have a 3.30pm KO v QoS a fortnight tomorrow Sunday 17th so in theory should move the dinner to say 5.30pm for 6.00pm on that date. However if we win we will be at Easter Road with a noon KO on the original dinner date of Saturday the 23rd and those who get a ticket could get back to Glasgow for a 5.00pm dinner. If we lose to QoS we could still go ahead on the 23rd even though we would not have a game. This would accommodate SteveC (and possibly CHM) who has booked flights to be be here on the 23rd. The advantage of moving to the 17th is it's a definite decision now so it will be easier for everyone (except SteveC!) to plan. I'll go with the majority view.

Its not fundamentally wrong at all, its clear that a ST is for the 18 home league matches, but its a nice gesture by the Club especially when a ST is priced at more than the cost of the individual league matches. I think Frankie´s assessment is right though, its one in the eye for the SPFL.
