  1. Yes I was fully aware of that statement. My point was that no figure, 40,000 or otherwise was mentioned. Is there a published number for last season; anywhere from 34,000 - 37,000 has been mentioned on here, I believe.
  2. I don't think anyone seriously expects us to be back in Europe before 2016/17.
  3. WATCH out Derby, the Tartan Army is coming – and it’s here to party. That’s the message from the expected 10,000 Glasgow Rangers fans who are due to descend on the city next Saturday for their friendly with Derby County. John Vicars, chief operating officer at the Rams’ iPro Stadium, has confirmed that the Scottish club has so far sold 8,200 for the clash, with a crowd of 15,000 expected. To add to the atmosphere, former Rams and Rangers favourite Ted McMinn, a hugely popular player at both clubs, is to be the guest of honour at the match. McMinn said: “It is going to be a fantastic match and I am sure the Rangers fans will be here in Derby to party. “When there is a game like this, played at a big stadium with a large away fan allocation, you can always rely on Rangers to travel in numbers and fill it. “They won’t be bothered about how they get back to Scotland, so long as they arrive in time to get back to work on Monday. “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a real privilege to be guest of honour and let’s hope there’s a big crowd.” Rangers last played at the stadium in 2007 for McMinn’s testimonial match. That attracted more than 33,000 fans, of which 12,000 were supporting the away team. John Macmillan, general secretary of the Rangers Supporters’ Association, said fans would travel far and wide to get to Derby. He said: “Because the club is making its way back to the Scottish Premier League, our allocation of tickets for away games at smaller stadiums the past couple of seasons has limited the numbers able to travel. “So the chance to play at a bigger stadium with a far higher ticket allocation is really attractive. “There will be thousands come from Scotland but we have thousands of supporters south of the border who will come from all over to watch their team play. “It should be a great atmosphere.” The match is the final pre-season friendly for Steve McClaren’s men before the Championship opener at home to Rotherham United on August 9. Superintendent Gary Parkin will be Derbyshire Police’s match commander at the Rangers game. He said: “We have been liaising with Police Scotland and joint intelligence with them has so far shown there are no plans for any disorder or problems before, during or after the match. “Some Rangers fans have been known to bring flares to matches but we will have a specialist pyrotechnics dog outside the stadium checking people and bags as they try to go through the turnstiles. “Rangers fans will be welcomed in the city where I am sure they will come to have a tremendous day out. “I am sure there will be a party atmosphere.” Ralf Edge is the landlord of the Alexandra Hotel in Siddals Road, Derby, a popular watering hole for fans before Derby County matches. He said: “We have been stocking up in preparation of the Ranger fans coming and they are welcome to come to the Alex. “Speaking to those who remember when they last came, the Rangers fans drank a lot of beer. “I’m sure they will all behave themselves and the day will be a huge success.” Read more at http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Old-sporran-partners-town-Rangers-Rams/story-21939597-detail/story.html#F58DdqyR0H3hps7k.99 Aside from Barcelona and Manchester, it looks like the biggest travelling Rangers support for many years . I sincerely hope that all travelling Rangers fans remember that they are ambassadors of the Club and that there is no infiltration from casuals or the like of any description.
  4. This is exactly the point. We ARE a big draw to a Championship Club like Derby, we are NOT a big draw to the likes of Arsenal, who can attract any team they want.
  5. We have to QUALIFY as well as get the dispensation. The only way to qualify would be to win the Cup.
  6. I don't recall any specific number in the accounts, can you quote please. What is your information about current total renewals?
  7. Both parts. Where do you get that the Board were predicting 40,000 ST sales or that we've only sold 20,000; word was it was over 21,000 a week back.
  8. Which is the number I have been predicting all along. Good results at Derby and v Hibs will give sales a boost especially if M&B score some goals.
  9. Easier to administer I would think.
  10. Where are you getting that from?
  11. Not quite Europe but as close as we'll be for another couple of years.
  12. Meanwhile we have to go to games on Fridays (not too bad), Saturday/Sunday early kick offs and even Monday nights (terrible).
  13. Give it a rest GS, you've been told countless times why that's not possible and DK has dropped that demand from Ibrox 1972 Ltd anyway.
  14. A genuine case of size matters then?
  15. Most of what I've read says don't charge unnecessarily but run down to about 20% or wherever you're at end of day; BUT let it go right down every so often and fully recharge. I'm sure one of the geeks on here will have the technical explanation for that advice.
  16. Hildy That would appear to apply both ways though, would it not? Flowery and emotionally charged words indeed, but it is not clear to me why a person can't have self respect and still support the Club they love. In what way am I and the thousands of others like me who think we have some self respect, losing that important commodity by buying a ST?
  17. In theory you're correct of course but football is a business and I once recall SDM moaning at an AGM that the previous Saturday £150,000 in wages were sitting on the bench or in the stands.
  18. My recollection is of him wearing no. 8 but doing most of his work cutting in from the left to CMF, which is why I made the comparison with the references to McLeod playing wide left. However I found this: Tall, slim, long-legged and often morose in appearance, Riquelme, who plays for Villarreal in Spain, operates in midfield, just behind two central strikers. That, at least, is his nominal position, but in truth he goes wherever he wants as he seeks to create space and possibilities for those around him. In many ways, he is the closest thing football has to a quarterback, the most influential and glamorous position in American sport. The quarterback is the creator, the player who invents the game as he goes along. If it means passing back or sideways, in order to progress, so be it. Because what Riquelme has, above all else, is patience, the very quality Leo Beenhakker, the veteran Dutch coach of Trinidad & Tobago, says England, so hurried and committed to the long ball, palpably lack. As well as patience, Riquelme's great gift is one of decision-making, of knowing when to 'call the play', and of knowing intuitively what will and won't work and why. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/jun/18/worldcup2006.sport8 I can only rely on this: After one unsuccessful season with the Catalan giants in which he was played out of position on the wings, he moved to Villareal on a loan deal. His spell at Villareal was a more fruitful one. Played in his natural position as an attacking midfielder, the Argentine helped the Valencian outfit enjoy one of their best spells in La Liga and Europe. https://in.news.yahoo.com/juan-roman-riquelme-argentina-most-135210220.html an excellent artcile on his career in general and this on his demise at Villarreal: The end is nigh for a player unable to cross great divide http://www.theguardian.com/football/2007/jan/22/europeanfootball.sport1 So quite happy to concede the point about Riquelme's position and have said earlier that McLeod would be best in the same No. 10/QB role but that he is being played wide left to accommodate the wages of Law and Black, that's what I meant about fortuitous positioning rather than tactical genius on the part of McCoist.
  19. They don't appear to have any strategy at all. Now that they have given up on their futile demand for security over Ibrox in return for a few thousand ST's they appear to want it for nothing at all, other than sentiment, even although the vehicle Ibrox 1972 Ltd doesn't have any assets. "Investment is required and is available and not only from Dave King" who hasn't been seen or heard of for months and who else pray tell us Mr Houston. “If we do a sale and lease back agreement then our club will be paying out money over a long period of time just because this current board are way out on their own cash assessments and if we borrow against Ibrox and our club was to once again lurch in to admin then we would lose our stadium to the lender. Neither is acceptable to me as a fan.” Utter drivel and the change from third to first person, makes it clear this is in effect a one man agenda.
  20. Strange you strike me as quite a sober type. Not heard of a position called AMC, in my profession it was Annual Management Charge. Attacking Midfield Centre? Riquelme played wide left for Villarreal against us.
  21. Well there are two candidates then: Dec 6th v Cowdenbeath - easier from a restuarant point of view Dec 20th v Livingston - slightly more attractive fixture, but last shopping weekend before Christmas and might be difficult for restaurants. Cowdenbeath perhaps less likely to get moved as well. GS and BH on the same march, might start a trend, can't have that
  22. Thought you might be pleased.
  23. As I understand it, it was the newco argument primarily if not wholly and I don't know the facts of the Hibs case so I won't argue with you. I don't think you will get very far with the players argument because they were legally entitled to walk away from newco but I agree that some of the lost revenue is another matter.
  24. I'd have Hutton for Black in my team any day of the week. But you're right about McLeod. Fact is Law and Black HAVE to play because of the wages they're on, ergo McLeod on the left because he's too good to be left out. Nothing about tactics at all; but the thrust of the article is to make to make it seem that it is a well thought out tactical plan, it's not, it's just opportunistic.
