Doesn't matter; if it was his money and it is admitted or proven, then the amount is largely irrelevant because the rule is absolute. He might plead the amount in mitigation but don't think it will help him much. I'm sticking with Rangers will suspend on full pay him pending the outcome.

It has to be a possibility but perhaps not because of how well or badly he's been playing. IF Rangers found out, then reporting him ot the SFA (even anonymously) might be a neat solution; because if they find him guilty and suspend him sine die or not, then it could be grounds for dismissal. I don't think anyone would seriously argue that Rangers sacked Sandaza for any reason other than that he was shite and they decided to take their chances on a wrongful dismissal case.

YES, if he was doing it openly, which seems unlikely.

I think you misssed my point there. What I meant was that I agree that it would be difficult to justify that kind of check, even if it was possible; but absent that, then a clause in the contract saying what will happen to you if you do bet on matches, might be an alternative. This something I do know a bit about and it always seemed to me that Green was either incredibly naïve or incredibly badly advised or both. You have to offer to employ exisiting staff on the same terms and conditions but they don't have to accept. I know the lawyer who represented Whittaker and Naismith and he's a top man; but even he would admit that that was probably the easiest money he's made in a while. A lot easier than avoiding the immediate point deduction that would have relegated Hearts.

Fair enough; but you're not a professional football player (so far as we know!) so would it be relevant to your occupation? My point is that it IS relevant to being employed as a professional football player. You agree to a medical to check your fitness and the Club can check your disciplinary record and a credit check might well be relevant as well. I seem to recall some well known players frittering away their cash on gambling and drink. I would think at the very least it should be in your contract that if you breach that type of rule, your contract could be terminated for gross misconduct; in fact I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

That's really my question, do they do any, and would they be likely to pick up this kind of thing.

I have a question. Do Rangers not do background checks on employees, especially the highly paid ones; and if they did would this not be the kind of thing you would expect to check/find?

Was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, wasn't mean to be taken literally and didn't think that anyone would. But you're right, I've deleted it. Apologies to any Aussies or others who I offended.

Where does it say that it's been known about for 7 years? Gone on, and knowingly gone on are quite different. Doesn't matter how many players have had bets, doesn't matter who reported him, it could have been the Pope; if he did it he's history. I would expect Rangers to suspend him on full pay pending the result of their investigation and the SFA hearing. Don't see how he can play for us again unless he's completely exonerated.

Absolutely but if he bet against any team he was playing for and they didn't win he shouldn't play for us again. He could have paid off other players to play badly and/or get sent off/give away a penalty etc etc. If this is true, he's a liability and we've got enough liabilities right now without one as stupid as that.

Are you kidding, betting is against the rules full stop. Betting AGAINST your own team is or could be criminal; just ask any of the Indian cricketers.

Interesting dialogue, thanks. If they HAD stayed in £2,000/ night suites would they have performed in the second half as well; maybe they weren't happy with the £280/night shot? Not sure about the home counties or why that is a fair comparison but my b&b in Cairnryan on Saturday night after the match was £63 (mind you the towels were a bit thin but I bet you they wouldn't have got a better breakfast). quite so I was never ready to out-run anyone for 90 minutes even when I was a referee. Thornton got his wages doubled to £2 per week, for turning up with shiny boots when he was just breaking into the team (albeit Struth didn't know that his mother had polished them).

Rangers’ PR problems – Boycotts and Bloggers
BrahimHemdani replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Don't buy the Record, don't buy the Sun, don't buy the Times (not many do) don't watch the BBC; maybe Rangers fans shouldn't buy any papers or watch any TV at all , except of course, Rangers TV. It's always been my opinion that if you play good football and stick the ball in the back of the opposition pokie more often than they put it in yours you will silence the opposition and get all the positive publicity you need at the same time as considerably reducing the negative stuff. Of course in the case of Rangers, there will always be some kind of agenda somewhere, it's called selling newspapers. I do realise that in today's world of tweeters, bloggers and facebookers? one can't just say that today's news is tomorrow's chip paper but I think similar rules might apply. Today's blog is tomorrow's....... (answers in cyberspace only). There is a very real drama being played out at our Club right now and events of the last 3 years have led to a healthy scepticism on the part of fans about what they read and hear about it and as Frankie says the Club themselves aren't necessarily the font of all truth and wisdom on their own affairs; but most fans don't really care who owns the Club or, I'll venture, what journalists right about us, what they care about is winning games, progressing through the leagues and getting back we we belong on the football stage.- 7 replies

That's very true, although I don't think the garage has to be "nice"; it just has to be wind and waterproof! So they could have sent them down in a nice Mercedes bus with all mod cons and I'm sure that fit pros as they are , they would have managed. I'm not saying that we need to bring in austerity measures, but a sense of proportion and realism from time to time might help. . That's a fair point as well, I certainly don't want our lads stressed out worrying about missing the bus to Stranraer, never mind playing against their part-timers ; but as pros shouldn't they be tucked up in bed by 10.00pm, the night before a game? That said, as someone who used to travel a lot on business I agree that I would much rather get to where I'm meant to be the next day, the night before and stay in a decent hotel and be ready for the off in the morning; but I wouldn't have done it for a 3.00pm meeting in Stranraer, that's my point. In Struth's day did they not tend to go by train, albeit first class? That's just a historical question; not a criticism.

I don't think English has an anti-Rangers agenda; as many agree he is one of the most intelligent and erudite of the bunch. All he has done in this article is asked us to face a few home truths about McCoist, Mathers and Stockbridge. It is blatantly obvious that there is a lack of even the most basic financial control at Ibrox and it is equally obvious that that has to stop. OK we're a top club and we want to be professional, absolutely right. But it is only 2 hours in a bus from Ibrox to Stair Park, Stranraer, door to door; so why did we need to stay overnight at Turnberry Lodges? The question isn't: was that cheaper than a hotel in Stranraer, the question is why did they need to stay overnight at all? They could have left Ibrox at 9.00am or even 10.00am, got down there well in time for lunch; had a good stretch and been at Stair park comfortably in time for the match. That kind of thing is justified if you've got an early kick off at Elgin or Peterhead, for example; but not for an 83 mile journey with a 3.00pm Saturday kick-off. I agree with Zappa about Gallagher (excellent game on Saturday BTW); send him out on loan with an appropriate clause in the contract and stick Smith on the bench; there is no justification whatsoever to pay a 34 year old to do the same. And what about Steven Smith; what is that all about? He's not going to challenge Wallace for a game at LB, so he might get a few games in LMF, if and when we need to play defensively (against who exactly this season, Stenhousemuir away?). Ok possibly, once or twice in the Scottish Cup; but do we need to pay him whatever he's getting for that and at the same time probably keep one of the youngsters out of the team, I don't think so.

I seem to recall their then interim spokesperson, Kenny Park, stating that Whyte was the "real deal" and calling on supporters to back him too.

I don't think they could return a CHAPS credit automatically in the same way as they could with a cheque or BACS credit but they certainly could establish where it came from; I just had that done by Barclays without any difficulty (and no it didn't come from Mr Whyte!).

Like if you paid the money personally why would you want it repaid to your mother's account?

I think this very eloquently expresses much of what I have said in earlier replies particularly about the difference between membership and ownership and the possibility of developing one into the other as per my reply to plgsarmy. Thank you.
