  1. We'll I meant soon of course and I was right wasn't I?
  2. IMHO he's our best defender and our best attacker. Saved the day coming over to defend on the right then wins a penalty at the other end. What more do you want?
  3. Agreed. We are trying to be different with Toral playing it out from deep and Halliday further forward than usual. Handyman looked I've lyle early but has faded and Waghorn is ineffectual. Would like to see Holt and Dodoo for Halliday and Waghorn. Think Windlass might get on.
  4. When? The goal came from a poor attempted tackle by Tavernier.
  5. Wallace has been our biggest attacking threat.
  6. Craig I am sorry to have to tell you that the current system is broken for the very reason that you advance to support your argument, namely that it does not result in any action being taken against anyone (with the exception of Motherwell getting a slap on the wrist). The SG have had enough of prevarication by the football authorities and will either adopt or support Mr Dornan's proposed legislation. As for the rest of Scottish Football wanting to see us dead, that's just nonsense. All of Scottish Football including Celtic FC want a healthy Rangers because they need us from a financial point of view and from a competition point of view (in Celtic's case).
  7. Until it becomes the rule (which it will in the next year or two), then there is absolutely zero evidence that it would not be applied or applied fairly. Everything else is just pure speculation.
  8. So who's the politician now then? Your assertion is pure speculation. That's just a non answer. My answer is strict liability. What's yours?
  9. No one more surly than you, Craig
  10. Thanks, the perils of predictive text!
  11. I disagree, 10 fines in 5 years, is clear proof that strict liability works as a system for dealing with the unacceptable conduct of fans. How well it works is another argument. I have made it clear to anyone who would listen that I have been in favour of strict liability for at least the past 6 years. Celtic have indeed been held accountable, we agree that the bill has not been high enough. I would agree that the current level of fines does not act as a deterrent but at some point UEFA are going to say, enough is enough, next strike and your stand etc is closed; and then Celtic or whoever will have no defense because of their long record. Remember that there are two levels of appeal. If you do not agree with strict liability becoming the rule in Scotland, how would you ensure that clubs are held accountable for the misconduct of their fans? Please give a practical answer, not one that begins - well it won't happen so long is Lawwell is running the show; because that's exactly the point, we need an answer that deals with the present situation despite Lawwell running the show.
  12. The directors should be down on their knees begging him to come. We'll get by till the summer, he can line up some players and start on June 1.
  13. Darther is spot on. FS is posing the wrong question and he knows that full well. UEFA have sanctioned Celtic 10 times for the improper conduct of their fans; you can argue all day about the level of fines or whether they should have led to more severe punishments; but the recent fine is the highest imposed on them. I agree the fines should be much higher and I agree that they should be accumulated and/or lead to closure of areas of the ground etc etc but that is a different argument. To be perfectly honest much more serious incidents have occurred in places like Milan and Bratislava leading to closures and perhaps UEFA want to keep a sense of proportion. So this is clear and unequivocal evidence that strict liability does indeed work, inasmuch as Celtic have been punished 10 times for the unacceptable conduct of their fans in European games versus nil under the "reasonably practicable" rule in Scotland. Thank you FS. The prosecution rests.
  14. Wayne Shaw has agreed to leave Sutton Utd after investigations were opened into his pie eating during the club's game against Arsenal. The 20st reserve goalkeeper - known by fans as Roly Poly Goalie because of his weight and his mid-match snacks - knew Sun Bets were offering 8-1 odds on him eating the pastry when he did so on camera. That has prompted the Gambling Commission and the Football Association to look into whether he breached betting rules. Amid a "storm of criticism" of the club, Sutton United manager Paul Doswell told Sky News he had no option but to ask Shaw, 46, to stand aside. Doswell said: "It's been very disappointing. There's no doubt about that. I woke up this morning to this storm of criticism. "Wayne, himself, has offered his resignation to the chairman this afternoon and it's been accepted. It's a very sad end to what has been a good story." Asked by Sky's Kay Burley whether he had asked Shaw to quit, Doswell said: "Yes." Wayne Shaw talking to Sky Sports on Monday night Video: Shaw admits eating pie during match Doswell said: "The club were very disappointed in the way that we have been portrayed. We were very concerned with the implications at the club. "It's clear in FA rules you are not allowed to bet and whether it was a fun bet, or whatever it was, it wasn't acceptable." He added he expects investigations by the FA and the Gambling Commission to continue but the club management have to distance themselves from what happened. He said: "It was an honest error but one that has had quite sad ramifications. I think Wayne has been swept along with what's happened in these last three or four weeks. "I think he's been ill advised at times. He's such a lovely man but his judgement was not great last night and I think he's going to pay the price for it. "He's absolutely devastated. Tears down the phone this afternoon. There's no joy or something good coming out of this particular situation for him." Shaw earlier told BBC Radio 4: "We are told we are not allowed to gamble as it is full-time professional football. "In no way did I put anyone in jeopardy of that - this is not the case here, this is just a bit of fun and me being hungry." Sutton United's substitute Wayne Shaw eats a pie Image Caption: Sutton United's Wayne Shaw eats a pie during the game The resignation will mark a sad end to what was a remarkable run for the non-league south London club. Sutton United reached the fifth round of the world's oldest football knockout and, in those five rounds, netted an estimated £1m. Sky's Paul Kelso said: "Wayne Shaw, having gone to the kitchens to get a pie that had been specially prepared, wolfed it down live on camera. "Unfortunately for him, this raised questions. "If you are involved in football in any way, you are not allowed to bet on any matter relating to football. "The FA will have to look at whether eating a pie counts as a matter relating to football. "The more serious issue in terms of the investigations is the Gambling Commission, which is going to look into the conduct of Sun Bet." http://news.sky.com/story/pie-eating-goalkeeper-wayne-shaw-resigns-from-sutton-utd-10776585 The implication is that he bet or otherwise profited from his mates betting but even if only his mates benefited he's been very stupid. Equally the bookies have been even more stupid because apart from it being a ludicrous thing to bet on it was easy to fiddle so they really need to take a long hard look at themselves and if they don't the Gambling Commission should come down on them hard. It's sad because the game and the cup run will now be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
  15. For eating a pie or for aiding others to win bets?
  16. As if you would consider reporting what is said on social media
  17. So does that mean that Senderos had not trained like a beast or anything else and that even if you are clearly not good enough for this level and caught out time after time you still get a game because you train hard? Senderos may not be the player he once was and he may never have been the player that some thought he was; but he has played at a level that Kiernan can only dream about and has 57 caps for Switzerland who are generally ranked in the top 10 in Europe and the top 20 in the world. Kiernan couldn't hold down a place in a Championship level team for any length of time and his chances of playing for Arsenal or anyone else in the EPL (never mind England) exist only in the darkest recesses of MW's mind. Senderos is the best right sided CB we have and should be playing.
  18. I wouldn't swear to what he was drinking for breakfast but at night in the Scotsman Bar IIRC it was the old vodka lemon. One night he was so pissed he signed an autograph "To the greatest Partick Thistle Supporter in the World, Derek Johnstone, Rangers FC." The guy said he would hang it in his bar at Partick Cross. The DJ is often in the press area diagonally in front of me if he's doing commentary, I'll ask him if he remembers you.
  19. The consensus was that Celtic will be the first or second last fixture after the split and certainly not the last home game; which was another reason for choosing that date.
  20. That would be great and no doubt your presence will sell a few more tickets!
  21. Pete, obviously I can't guarantee the fixtures any more than I can guarantee us finishing in the Top 6 but logic dictates that we will be at home one of the last two weekends: Round 36 - Saturday 13 May, 2017 (might be moved to the Sunday for TV) OR Round 38 - Saturday 20 May & Sunday 21 May, 2017 (most likely the Sunday) so if you can make your trip include both then you should be covered and there will also be a midweek game as well: Round 37 - Tuesday 16 May & Wednesday 17 May, 2017 PS: Old age must be affecting your memory. I found this: 1-27-2016, 02:26 PM #29 Posted by pete View Post I was hoping for a December -February the 4th as I am planning a trip back but I doubt I will make an end of season one. As Boabie I don't really go for Italian food and love the old curries, but I can understand you want some variation and that would not stop me attending. Not a definite no from me but I would say highly unlikely. My reply:- As with the other restaurants, I'm sure that La Fiorentina will be able to accommodate most tastes or you could bring a bratwurst sandwich. Hope you can make it; with 6 months notice there really is no excuse.
  22. I happened to be staying at the same hotel as DJ in Benidorm, in the summer of 1978. I told him that I would be moving up to referee the reserves and that if he kept up the vodka lemons he would be coming down to join me in the reserves. And so it came to pass.
  23. Davie Smith (speaking at a Gersnet Dinner) shared your view that we would have won with Jim Forrest at CF.
