  1. Getting a good experienced manager wont be easy at the moment though. I don't see Warburton as a newbie, he has had 3 great years in England. That Championship division is as tough as it gets, you play Saturday / Tuesday almost every week and there is some good teams with good players there, a lot of Premier League teams put their promising youngsters there and for Warburton to take Brentford who are a small club to the top 5 is a job extremely well done.
  2. He wouldn't be top job though. Anyone can clearly see the professionalism in him though. It doesn't always work bringing a good ex player, look at mcleish, he was a top centre half but didn't do wonders with our defence and Ally was a top striker who didn't improve our forwards but in Weirs last season he was almost a mentor anyway so I think that will work.
  3. Sometimes that is a good thing. It doesn't mean they aren't operating in the background. If David Murray was good at anything it was getting a deal done in advance of any announcement and it used to come out as a done deal, that's a way of doing business that I like.
  4. Agree but the task should be more of a 5 stage appointment looking longer than the 2 points you mentioned. Im certainly in the Warburton and Weir camp. The preparation and note to detail they seemed to have put in is exactly what the footballing side of our club needs and has needed. There is no 'rebel camp' like Ferguson and Boyd to refuse longer training and new methods and its a superb chance to build for the future. I like the Weir appointment because he will be on the training pitch, I don't think Weir is a No.1 but will make a excellent coach and assistant. He is the type of ex Ger that is needed, someone around the place who knows what is needed on the pitch from players rather than the jobs for boys type ex player. That's why others such as Numan and Laudrup often get mentioned that they would do a great job on the coaching side because they came from the outside but know what is required professionally, Weir is in that bracket - a proper professional. Im hoping they get appointed this week, however if Pereira was the surprise appointment I wouldn't be disappointed but if its any of the names that have been mentioned like McCall, Davies, McInnes or Mcleish then Id expect a really rough ride over the next 3 years.
  5. Good to see a great team lift another CL cup and put their total number of wins up a bit. Its also good to see the return of a strong Italian team in the competition but they were up against a player who is unplayable. I think Serie A is on its way back to being a stronger league and we will see more Italian teams going further over the next 5 years. The Milan clubs need to get sorted out though. That's 4 years in a row I have backed the runners up from the last 16 stage....unbelievable. Bayern in 2012, Dortmund in 2013, Atletico in 2014 and Juventus 2015. Im taking an each way bet next season.
  6. Good job Boyd was released if we get Warburton. The Nando's party wouldn't be impressed with this.
  7. Its just an article that shows that the board need to put their foot on the gas a bit and speed up the decision making of appointing a manager first and foremost. Warburton or Pereira would be good appointments. Going back for Walter is a huge step backwards but he would probably get us up next season plus id rather him over any of the other Scottish managers mentioned so far. 7 weeks today until the season starts....that is nothing and will be here before we know it.
  8. What exactly is it you see in McCall as the man to take us forward? The dodgy tactical decisions? And how is he a safe option? He is no more safe than the next man. If the play off results was league form then he drew one against QofS and lost one v Hibs, hardly average never mind superb. And then when the big occasion came around it was far to much for him to handle and he was more concerned about being Motherwells ex manager than our current one.
  9. Loving the away kit but I will think twice about buying it due to our disastrous merchandise set up.
  10. Warburton is the only one I would take from the runners and riders list. Advocaat would have been but now he has done his U turn to go back to Sunderland. Cathro - I don't know much about him but he hasn't been a No.1 before which means he would need someone experienced along side him. Interesting choice but would still prefer Warburton. McInnes - The best of a bad bunch but Id rather we didn't. He didn't do well down south and that is really where you can be judged. The standard in the SPL isn't even average so to take a Aberdeen side to 2nd, who should financially be better off than St Johnstone and Co, isn't a mass success. McCall - Proved the job was too big for him IMO. Obviously didn't get a chance to play with his own squad but I didn't see much improvement from a McCoist team and decisions was similar to Ally. Agreed with other comments, if he didn't star for us in the 90s then we wouldn't even be looking at him. McLeish - not sure where this idea has come from all of a sudden. I like Big Eck as a pundit and he was a superb defender but he was the master of playing players out of position and finished 3rd in a 2 team league. Davies - Maybe 3 years ago I would have thought he could have been decent but now he seems to do more damage than good. Do I think he would lead Rangers back to the top of the game and into the CL? - No not IMO. Warburton and Weir on a 5 year deal all day long for me.
  11. And rightly so he shouldn't be contacted. Not sure what Alex rae means we shouldn't go down the route of foreign managers. For me nationality doesn't matter, its all about the right man.
  12. Isnt he on a short term contract that just expires at the end of the season anyway, therefore he is released?
  13. Agreed. Not only could Warburton be the re-making of Rangers, Rangers could be the making of Warburton. This job is a 3-5 year task and its not just promotion that's needed but its going to be a job that comes in stages, with stage 2 jumping up to the top 2 in the SPFL again then eventually back where we belong as champions and in the champions league. Warburton could really make a name for himself achieving that.
  14. Im sold on the Warburton and Weir idea now. I hope an agreement can be put in place ASAP. It just has a good fit to it and a terrific sense of freshness. I always thought Weir would return in some capacity, I didn't think he would be a No.1 himself but seems an ideal No.2 and coach. The amount of defenders that excelled playing next to him should rub off onto his coaching.
  15. None of them deserved to stay on, they have totally failed this season by finished 3rd in the second tier, it would have to go down as our worst finishing position ever. However if I had to keep one on it would have probably been Foster and that is saying something. I thought he played well against Hibs and would have been a good squad player. What a challenge ahead now for the next manager.
  16. Talks held with Warburton. I am certainly coming around to him and think its a fresh approach. The David Weir factor is a good one and he will surely help with the defence problems.
  17. That's someone I hope we stay away from.
  18. It wasn't long before McInnes was linked, another ex player. He has done well for Aberdeen but another who didn't do great down south at Bristol City and Id say we should be aiming for better. Id probably take him over McCall but still isn't in my top 5 choices.
  19. If Steve McLaren doesn't go to Newcastle then we should have a punt on him.
  20. Alex McLeish also took Motherwell to 2nd place and we saw how bad his tenure ended. The best of the rest - whether that be 2nd or 3rd position - changes every season. Its a job well done to beat the rest but its also like a lucky dip and unless that club has been extraordinary than the manager shouldn't be considered for a position leading Rangers back to the top.
  21. Yup. Said that on another thread, id expect a minimum 14 team top flight in 12 months time with possibly no relegation next season from the SPFL. Who was the previous guy who ran SFL before the SPL takeover (merger - no laughing at the back)....if he had stuck to his guns the SFL profile and worth would have grown hugely. He already had the biggest trump card in Rangers and this past season the SFL would have had the Edinburgh clubs in there as well. They should have reconstructed the bottom 3 divisions when they had the chance. And Financially another season upcoming with Rangers and Hibs.
  22. Stuart those are strengths of a scout and a coach NOT A MANAGER. A manager has to apply tactics, take risks, pick formations and players that suit plus more and these are where you lack. Another wonderful player in his day but not a Rangers manager in a million years.
  23. Total clear out from tomorrow, no sympathy just get on with it. And bring in a fresh new plan which should have been done 3 years ago. Tomorrow is our new chance to build again and build properly this time. Really no idea who at this stage but I hope they don't give McCall a chance to stay and bring in his own players.
  24. He didn't appeal to me at the start but I am warming to him and weir. They took Brentford from league 1 to the championship play offs, that isn't easy at all. They wouldn't be my first choice but it would be an interesting appointment
  25. Not sure why but I'm feeling quite confident, I think we will win by 2 goals and can see it going to extra time
