McCall: Shane Ferguson has 'lifted' Rangers despite not making debut yet
Gribz replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
I think I would impress in training against McCulloch in defence. No harm bringing Ferguson on for the last half hour this weekend against Falkirk. -
He can be mentioned in the same as the other thread of someone who failed when making the grade up. His comfort level has been tier 2 of Scotland. Celtic are welcome to him, however we do need to go shopping for a centre half or 2.

Hope Yogi goes onto win the cup now. Hughes v Houston.....

Has to be a wind up. Nobody can be that thick.

Mike Ashley forced to make U-turn on Newcastle's cup policy
Gribz replied to pete's topic in General Football Chat
Doesn't matter if he takes them serious they aren't good enough right now. Under Pardew they had a chance. Ive always quite liked Newcastle and like seeing them do well. They are a club with huge potential. -
Mikel Arteta: I'll sign new Arsenal deal once fit
Gribz replied to pete's topic in General Football Chat
Quality player. Has struggled in the last 18 months due to Arsenals weakness of not having a proper holding midfielder next to him plus at 33 he is slowing down. A good player for Arsenal to keep on as a squad player next year. They need to rid players like Flamini and Diaby then add quality who go straight into the first team. -
That's the great thing about generations. The poor chap Rousseau in the opening post hasn't seen much greatness when he is referring to Kevin Thomson as an example player The team that went so close in CL in 92-93 didn't have spectacular creativity. McCall, Ian Ferguson, Durrant on its day would have been our central trio if played then. Durrant had a good season but was never the player we should have seen. Mikhailichenko, and Trevor Steven could also have been played centrally to add to the creative side but were more used wider IIRC along with Huistra.

Its stating the obvious but very true: Players make formations. Formations don't make players.

It opens a good question about why players cant produce for Rangers, yet I think the style of football played in Scotland has a lot to do with it, but so does individual attitude. You can throw in a few recent names like Kyle Hutton and Jamie Ness. Both were extremely promising but while Hutton is still at the club he went miles backwards and Ness who moved on doesn't seem to kick a ball anymore or does so in the lower tiers of England. Advocaats squad had everything in his second year. Although we played a flat 4 in the middle it was mostly a 4-4-1-1. The midfielders and wide men were Tugay, Reyna, Albertz, Van Bronkhurst, Ferguson, McCann, Kanchelskis and Johansson (could play as a striker also) and it had everything in the midfield from good ball winners, graft, creativity, width and pace. That team was very near to something special. if De Boer had came a year earlier or even laudrup had stayed to play up with Mols then it would have been complete.

Im pretty sure there is a poll or a competition about who has the best pies in the league. IIRC Kilmarnock won it last time.

-
Im nested up at home recovering from neck surgery bored out my toenails and cooked myself a wagu Japanese burger - awesome. The smell reminded me of a burger before games in the days I used to attend Ibrox...1994-2005..... As an opinion how are Ibrox burgers these days???? or is there any good hot dogs or burgers from stands outside the ground..thats where I preferred to buy mine.

You have to set your standards higher Rab. Law wasn't good enough when we was a top flight club, he was half decent in a Motherwell team who are on par with Kilmarnock and Dundee Utd. I know we have a big jump up to be 2nd best next season (if promoted) but run of the mill SPL players don't cut it.

We need a mix of experience and youth. As I said if Hull get relegated they may want to offload players and we may then get Mcgregor on the cheap. Of course it would depend on doing a deal with him as I said....but with a host of players leaving including McCulloch that would free up wages.
-
Ideally we would do a deal with Brentford to bring Macleod back with Law going the other way. Or we should sell Law and use the funds to buy MacLeod back. The overhaul at the club this summer should be massive. The previous regime both on and off the park set us back a few years but its all about moving on now. We need players with fight and the ability who are worthy of pulling on the shirt. Id like to see us try bring back Macleod and also Allan Mcgregor. I know he was one who left under a cloud but he was a top class keeper at the time and shouldn't have been playing bottom tier football anyway. he is having a horrid time at an awful Hull team. I wonder if we could snap him up on the cheap and do a deal with him should Hull get relegated (which I think they will).

Its the first time ive seen Boyd recently. When he tried to jog onto the pitch he looked like his profession should be on the oche throwing darts. Awful condition for a professional footballer.

What was your user name before you changed it? That has been making my pull my hair out today.

Absolutely essential we get the right manager in for next season
Gribz replied to Ser Barristan Selmy's topic in Rangers Chat
One defeat and the McCall isn't the man comments are brought up again, however I am in agreement with the OP that we should be aiming a far better pedigree of manager. A lot will depend on promotion or not. The front runners and riders will be named in due course when and if it becomes available. I do think McCall will get the gig if he gets us promotion but I agree with Selmy that long term he is nowhere near. I think McCall would be a very good option for an assistant manager as he likes to work on the training field.
