match thread (image) [FT] St Mirren 0 - 2 Rangers (Candeias 80; Morelos 90+2)

I think we have a case here then as the ref obviously saw someone / something else. Ive never seen a worse yellow card than this. Left it late but the win was needed. A few of our players wont have played in blustery conditions like that - the English go on about foreign players going to a cold Dec night in Stoke but a blustery rainy windy day in Paisley where the stands are low and cant block wind is far worse. 3 points is a job well done. Motherwell and Livingston at Ibrox in the next two, a chance to redeem for the 2 away results earlier in the season. -
This is a measuring stick for Arsenal's progression this season but I think Liverpool will win. The Arsenal defence and midfield just isnt strong enough and at the full back positions with Bellerin, Monreal and Kolasanic all doubtful is worrying. I think 1 or 2 of them will make it purely for this match. But midfield is key and with Arsenal playing a likely trio of Torrieira, Xhaka/Ramsay and Ozil the gap between Ozil and the other 2 is where Liverpool will hurt Arsenal. Mustafi is another who gifts players chances easily and Liverpools front 3 will punish them.

Gerrard has a big decision - stick with some regulars who havent performed in the last few games and give them another chance or make changes - welcome to management. But the good thing about SG is he wont shy away from a decision. St Mirren were the opponents on my first trip to Ibrox, the opening game of 1989-90 season and they won at Ibrox with Chris Woods knocking himself into the post and allowing a tap in. But this team have lost 9 out of 11 games in the league, if we cant win this comfortably then there is something wrong. I would take an ugly 1-0 win just to get the 3 points, a run of wins has to be top priority -
Not easy to predict due to inconsistency of so many teams. Bournemouth 1-1 Man Utd Cardiff 0-1 Leicester Everton 2-0 Brighton Newcastle 1-0 Watford West Ham 2-2 Burnley Arsenal 1-2 Liverpool Wolves 1-3 Spurs Sunday: Man City 4-0 Southampton Chelsea 2-0 Palace Monday: Hudderfield 1-0 Fulham

Not the most entertaining Saturday games. I'll go for this: Brighton 1-1 Wolves Fulham 1-1 Bournemouth Liverpool 4-0 Cardiff Southampton 0-0 Newcastle Watford 2-0 Huddersfield Leicester 2-1 West Ham Sunday Burnley 0-2 Chelsea Palace 0-2 Arsenal Man Utd 1-1 Everton Monday Spurs 1-2 Man City

Some Aberdeen fans think they are the Liverpool of Scotland. But realistically Ive always said they are the Notts Forest of Scotland.

Elsewhere in Europe, Arsenal continue their winning run. Its 11 on the trot with a good victory in Lisbon. AC Milan - A team Ive always liked but how far backwards have they went! lost 2-1 at home to Betis. Oh and a certain Glasgow team losing in Germany has left them needing a couple of wins in their last 3 games, but are 6 behind the leaders. The Europa has slight improvement in quality but I still think there is too many teams. UEFA should move the Europa to Tuesday with the CL Wed and Thurs as its a bit like 'after the lord mayors show' being on the Thurs, i think it would have more interest on a Tuesday night. The CL league teams usually play on a Sunday anyway for TV so their games wouldnt be moved as much for domestic comps.

Just didnt have that cutting edge in the final third but overall its still mass progress to be sitting top of the group at the half way stage in a group that doesnt have a easy team at all. I think we can go to Moscow and come away with a point and that sets up Villareal at Ibrox nicely. -
Its a weird one is it. They are making progress yet Im also unconvinced by them as I still think there is a soft centre there. But to be fair I think that will take another 2 transfer windows before they get what they need and want although it remains to be seen if they will spend the right funds. But compared to last season they are moving forward with a better work rate and togetherness and 10 wins is a cracking run. Everton and Newcastle (a) would have been potential points dropped under Wenger. So to be sitting 4th and 2 points off the pace at the moment is way better than Gooners would have thought - and Chelsea away on matchday 2 could easily have been a win. Emery is getting good out of players and Iwobi looks a new player. He couldnt transform Wengers squad overnight and players like Holding wont be first pick long term. Once Koscielny is back to full fitness it will be huge and if he can add a natural winger, top defender and another key central midfielder in the next transfer window then they will be top 4 IMO. Man Utd are out of it so its 4 from 5 teams now.

Aberdeen away on matchday 1 we deserved 3 pts in that game. You could argue we let in a late one at motherwell also but we were 2 down in that game so its the Aberdeen game that hurts more. But a win today and we are right in the pack and it will get a monkey off the back and then its Killie at Ibrox a week on Wed, 6 points will have the table looking more clear.

People can do what they want in their private life but why footballers still do such things on social media knowing the spotlight they are in and the day in age where everything gets looked at is just silly. Especially if he has just had a baby, whats he thinking! Yet I still wouldnt read anything a tabloid has to offer.

Disastrous day of predictions. Later in the day I changed my thoughts on Newcastle and fancied Brighton to win but didnt change it on the coupon. Man Utd are strange, they werent in the game for the first half but yet again come out in the second half and going forward are a different animal. A draw was a fair score. Lloris won Spurs 3 points, 4 unreal saves. But I think there is problems still at West Ham, good players but just still seem on a rollercoaster.
-
Are they not embarrassed demanding a 50/50 split and not even selling half of their allocation. This after getting their request of moving the kick off time. As a result they have to move their fans. Not sure how they would do that anyway if tickets are sold, they would have to call them back in and swap tickets - bit of a hassle and joke.
-
I fancy Chelsea strongly today. They have been impressive. If Man Utd park the bus I still think Hazard and Co will break them down but if Man Utd have a go then there will be goals at both ends with Chelsea still coming out on top. West Ham v Spurs is a good game , there isnt much draws between these two but I fancy a 1-1 there today. Its a tough one for the coupon, I fancy Newcastle and Wolves to win the latter have been a great intro to the league and this type of games is a test. Newcastle have to win simple as. South coast derby also. Bournemouth another team who have caught the eye against a really boring Southampton team, but that could go either way. Everton and Arsenal for home wins on Sunday and Monday.

Anyone who would Boo McGregor would be bonkers and they know that. Like Goram I think even our most fierce rivals know how good he is and what top form he is in.
-
None with the recent squad due to injury etc but lets see the next squad when all our players are fit. McCrorie, Jack and Dorrans should all walk into it.
-
Looking forward to seeing Grezda. Id still start Morelos against Hamilton to try get the tie wrapped up early then perhaps start with Grezda wide for fitness purposes, alternatively give him the last half hour upfront if we are leading. We will be stuck for the Semi though, could Candeias even be an option through the middle in that game? That could mean Tav playing ahead of Flanagan for width.

I think its fair to say Rangers are moving forward and Scotland are moving backwards. Overall Scotland have been on a mass downward spiral for the best part of 15 years and of course the SFA wouldnt even consider looking long term back then with a Belgian, Spanish, German type model in place. We are never going to reach that heights but you see countries of similar population punching well above their weight. I would say the current Scottish Gers would at least be in any 23 man squad but its pretty obvious the SFA have a criteria to keep to - of course that wont be admitted but we all know the fans of other clubs would become Boo boys if there is a team with Gers players.

Aberdeen complaining about 16000 tickets with an option for 4000 more. If it was St mirren they were playing would they be saying the same. They are only going because its Rangers.

What helps a defenders confidence is having Scotlands No.1 behind them. McGregor has been outstanding and hasnt looked like he has been away. Shame he is 36. I think when you get a keeper of this quality they will always be even better playing in their comfort zone and for the team they support which is why McGregor (like Goram) is never anything less than a 9/10. And playing for Rangers can be quite tough for some players so its a compliment saying McGregor is in his comfort zone with Rangers. -

That was a good listen again. Heard the first few viz youtube and its always an enjoyable listen. The contributors are realistic, level minded and just talk sense from what they see which is refreshing. -
Interesting, I dont really see much Anelka in him. He reminds me a bit like Daniel Cousin who could be unplayable on his day.

Agreed, from the games Ive watched Katic looks quality and the best so far. I think the addition of Worrell is clever though as we need 4 centre halfs for the amount of games and Gerrard is just giving them all game time. With McAuley and McCrorie then the position is covered. -
Cheers buddy, it was a busy summer. Hope your well.

gpl predictions (image) Bluebear54's GPL 2018/19: Rangers vs Hearts
Gribz replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Rangers 2-0 Hearts Morelos FGS (no need to add me to the table if there is still one). So long as there is no hangover from Thursday then it should be a win. The Edinburgh sides have done OK at Ibrox in the last season or two so its time to correct that.
