Wee sidenote ... just 21 more games to go to beat Sir Walter`s record of unbeaten games in season 1992/93.

... so by "default" you assume that they would use their block "not in the best interest" of Rangers? I would have assumed that once anything important happens by, it is not a cabal of leaders that makes a decision, but that members will be asked to vote on how Club 1872 will use their block of shares?
-
Regarding "fan-ownership" ... even if Club 1872 (I try to avoid C1872 with respect to the common C19 abbreviation) gets King`s shares, we are a long long way off "fan-ownership". So why beat that drum? This is - much like Club 1872`s prime intention - about safeguarding the club as such by acquiring a set amount of shares that prevent *hostile actions. I would like to hear more info from Club 1872 and how they want to tackle this and what they intent to do. *BTW, given the amount of Bears amongst the major shareholders, we are long way off anything "hostile" anyway.

... seems like the King / Club 1872 stuff has taken over far too much space. Europa League Group D - Game 5 Rangers FC vs Standard Liege Referee – Bojan Pandžić (SWE) Assistants – Mehmet Culum (SWE) and Max Robin Wilde (SWE) Fourth Official – Adam Ladebäck (SWE) Missing: Niko Katić (Kreuzbandriss), Filip Helander (Corona), Jermain Defoe, George Edmundson und Jordan Jones (alle nicht im Europa League-Kader) Doubtful: Fraglich: Ryan Jack (Prellung), Brandon Barker (Knöchelverletzung), Joe Aribo (Darmerkrankung) McGregor Tavernier - Goldson - Balogun - Barišić Arfield - Davis - Kamara Roofe - Morelos - Kent Subs: McLaughlin, Bassey, Hagi, Itten, Zungu, Patterson, Aribo, Barker, Stewart, Barjonas, Dickson, King

I would assume that Club 1872 will indeed ask their supporters how the latter want their fees to be spent, on acquiring King`s shares or on buying new shares -I don`t think they killed off that option, did they? Maybe we give them a little more time to digest what is now in front of them and not whip up something within hours or even days of King`s proposal? After all, there is a 3-year period. The more shares Club 1872 can acquire the better is the chance that a 2012 scenario won`t happen again. Whether these shares are new shares or DK`s is of no consequence here, IMHO. Further share issues might very well "dilute" the % that Club 1872 has acquired, seemingly by the odd %, though people may agree that nothing stops anyone to invest in Club 1872 to solely buy more new shares either, now or in the future. It is a big ask from Club 1872 as well as the individual supporter, of course. Likewise, the more shares Club 1872 has the better, no matter the source? "Better spend 13m to finance the club" ... I actually don`t know how much money is being "pumped" into the club via Club 1872 or the shares, yet, IMHO, the financial well being is more likely dependent season ticket, merchandise, advertising and similar money, as well as loans et al from those able to invest them straight away. Likewise, as I said before, success on the field is one of the biggest income streams, be it participation / prize money or indeed player sales. But perhaps someone more clued up can shed some light on the finances in this respect.

Snatched from FF ... Couple of interesting points from the Club 1872 FAQ on this matter: Will Club 1872 be involved in the day to day running of Rangers? No. Club 1872 is a major shareholder but is not directly involved in the day to day running of the club. With a large shareholding, Club 1872 will be in a position to scrutinise the decisions made by the Executives and the Board of Rangers and work with them to grow and develop the club whilst representing the views and concerns of our members. As we grow our shareholding we will also, in line with the wishes of our members, seek formal representation on the Rangers Board. It will remain the job of the Executive Team to run Rangers on a day to day basis and make operational decisions. How would Club 1872 be represented on the Rangers board? As we build our shareholding and grow our membership through legacy donations, Club 1872 will re-enter discussions with Rangers about representation on the RIFC Board. It is important to stress that it will not be Club 1872 Directors who take up an RIFC Board position. The Directors will identify candidates who can not only represent Club 1872 but also make an important contribution to the RIFC board through their expertise and experience. The chosen candidate will then represent the organisation’s shareholding on the board and ensure that the views of Club 1872 members are represented at all times. This will not change the way Rangers Football Club is run on a day to day basis. Club 1872 would not be involved in day to day decision making at Rangers, but rather would retain oversight of that process through regular interaction with the Rangers Board and Executive Team.

Ain't this acquisition of shares not similar to the buying of shares from Ashley & Co. a wee while back? While I see the whole point of putting money into the club, is safeguarding its future by acquiring shares (at a lower price too, as far as I understand it) not on a similar wavelength?
-
... be that as it may, should we snatch 55 and navigate our way to the CL group stages, we'll be on safer financial footing than probably ever before. For the share-buyer, it is a essentially some sort of win-win situation. Either you spent your money in safeguarding the club as such further, or buy shares to finance the club. I reckon quite a few people buy season tickets for the latter reason, and shares for the former. It remains to be seen what is the plan should Club 1872 not be able to buy the whole chunk of DK's shares. Early days ... and one can understand the "reservations" people have. EDIT ... "fan ownership" won't take place unless Club 1872 et al grab 50+ % of the shares. New Oasis Asset Limited, 66,672,893, 20.37% Club 1872, 16,202,838, 4.95% ... is somewhat off 50+ % going by my maths.

https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/18913045.rangers-q-dave-king-share-sale-40million-ibrox-investment-bill-opportunity-club-1872-protect-club/ So this will push Club 1872 over 25 % and thus makes sure that no single shareholder can do what he wants with the club. It does not exactly mean "fan ownership" or the like, nor that anything at the top of the business end will or has to change, right?
-
The one positive I instantly see is that there will be no "one" owner / shareholder of the club pulling the strings, i.e. having ultimate power over the club. The main question point is how C1872 will tackle the governance ... if they actually want to. Is there any reason to assume that things at the top will dramatically change now, apart from one member of C1872 will be made a director et al? I would assume that the leadership will be very similar to what we have now, with business people doing the business stuff but not "owning" the club. Alas, some time to go if everything is being done here. Let´s hear how Dave King wants this to unfold.

SUBS: McLaughlin, Ughelumba ( = Bassey), Helander, Hagi, Itten, Barker, Stewart, Barjonas, Dickson, King. Remarks .... Barjonas (21), Dickson (18) and King (16 sic!) were there because of the absence of Patterson (isolation), Jack and Aribo. Defoe's not in the EL squad, neither are Jones and Edmundson. Zungu might have been, but I would assume he's not yet that used to playing for us to throw him in straight away ... or we simply needed this home-grown quota. Our first team squad has some 28 players, and we have cover in every department, with right-back probably being the weakest, pending on the ability someone places on Patterson and/or Balogun. Bassey has shown signs that he's a player who can cover Barisic. As you say, we've been fortunate thus far on all negative departments, but likewise we've sure aquired enough playing staff to cover all areas for a time, unless desaster strikes. Today might have been an opportunity for Patterson, I do assume Bassey will be given a chance, as well as Itten, Hagi, Barker and even Stewart. -

Heart and Hand Postmatch Podcast by David Edgar Regarding subs, while I was thinking about it too, IMHO, the only players that SG would have thrown on if available would have been Aribo, Jack and probably Zungu. Stewart might have given us someone to hold the ball up field and spray a few passes, Hagi might have provided some spark too and Itten some power. We'll never know. As it is with some of our chances - for as opposed to Benfica, for all their good play, we should really have had a penalty to make it 3-0 while Alfredo was unlucky with that shot at 2-1. (In saying that though, I would not want to tempt fate, as we have had quite a few "lucky" episodes these last few weeks, e.g. the 2 deflections at the weekend that helped us to an otherwise still very much deserved win.) -
As SG said, this was very much a group performance and as a group we played rather well in Europe. Three players stood out a little from that group, with Balogun doing ever so well in defence (and the thought that "a Berliner" is doing fine is obviously great), Kamara was working tirelessly all night and my MotM Roofe played a striker's role that we IMHO rarely have seen for a few years, tackling and chasing the opposition right to our area as well as providing a constant threat. Borna was fine too, Davis controlling our midfield ... all in all, as I said over on the German board, I really really like this group of players and how they apply themelves these days. No-one knows whether they can become even better, but if we keep this style of play and be consistent, this team has the ability to make us all quite happy.

To be honest, I was far too occupied with and interested in Rangers players in my life as a football supporter than to remember much of Maradona as a "football genius". What stuck to mind is that goal against England which I saw in a live broadcast on East German television. That's 34 years ago and if he was famous for his game-play, I saw too little of it to join those lauding him as "the greatest ever". Mind you, even now we have truly great players like Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and people can't agree who is "better". So while this planet has been graced by many truly great footballers, I'll leave it to others to "evaluate" the likes of Pele, Maradona, Zico, Ronaldo (a few of that name), Messi et al, while e.g. swooning over Alfredo's Rangers goals or Roofe's stunners this season ... May the earth be light to him nonetheless.

Meanwhile .... https://www.followfollow.com/forum/threads/adel-taarabt-tests-positive-for-covid-19.141907/ Otamendi is suspended due to his red card. We will have to keep an eye on Pizzi though. I for one wouldn't mind a similar attack line as we had at the weekend, Roofe, Kent and Morelos can be devastating. -

... if only they would give the Yahoo's accounts a similar minute attention. As per usual, while this is "interesting", I leave the business stuff in the hands of the board (which is now no longer just in the hands of one person) and assume they know what they are doing. Let's hope we snatch 55 and navigate a passage to the CL-group stages, as that would essentially wipe out any financial difficulties for some time to come. Likewise, Alfredo's form of late won't be missed by his former suitors, nor any new ones.
