    Hope we only sell if the price is right and we have replacements lined up. And I do not see Diouf and (sic!) Murphy not as replacements. Once he's gone, we should move quickly for Jamie Murphy (at least!), but IMHO we will not sell him before x-mas. Squeaky bums time ...

    The comparrison was solely about money. Arsenal sure did not want to lose their star man, for that's what he is, as he will be one of Barca's. On a sidenote, some Rangers supporters and press hacks alike will like the fact that Rhys Murphy did play for England's youth team and declared himself for the ROI later on. For the latter, he is playing an u21 international this very evening. (And IMHO, the Irish international teams aren't that bad.)

    IMHO, no-one will leave before x-mas. We are all very edgy and thus our view is somewhat tainted. But we are not in any financial doldrum these days. Nonetheless, no matter what, if silly money is being offered, the club will consider it. Essentially the same with Arsenal and Fabregas. The Gunners needed Fabregas and badly, while being financially sound (I think?). Getting far over the odds for their star man made more than sense on a financial point though.

    For 8m, we would have and will sell any of our star players. IMHO, should somesuch occur, we should only sell if we have a real (sic!) replacement ready.

    Nope. Decent enough footballer and much like Riordan and now Stokes, you wonder how the Hooped Horrors manage to get such talent and don't use it properly. Long may it continue, of course. Obviously, it hates me to see that for some reason there are still clubs about who are willing to offer over the odds for their players, be that Traitor O'Gheady, Ki, or Kayal.

    Remember January, when we had no money at all and still came up with 3 loanies on the last day. We'll have to wait and see, of course. I do expect some movement, one way or another. Maybe that link to Chelsea will bear some fruits.

    Goodwillie has a greater chance of money and some experience with EPL footie with a low key team like them. It was his decision to sign the extension and this contract, his comments after leaving weren't very encouraging either. So far he's played one game, no goal, no assist.

    Ahem, what? Six month ago, we were essentially in the hands of the bank, had some 20m debt and were bound to lose our 3IAR backbone, most likely for peanuts compared to others. Now though, we've "lost" one player of the 3IAR backbone, send the loanies back home, got the rest of the backbone on long term deals, signed 6 players, secured others on short term deals and bar a few better results (football is not always predictable, you know), we would all be smiling. That not every player we were looking to get wanted to come to us is not exactly Whyte's fault. But if you need to vent your anger ... try to be a touch more objective. Aha. Look forward to your commentaries next May. (Then again, by your current stance, you expect us to get relegated or be at least 20odd points behind the Hooped Horrors.)

    On the day. Clubs in Norway and Sweden play summer football. We were some 3 weeks into pre-season, had one competitive game under our belt. Malm�¶ - who is by default no pub team either, no matter how often our football experts want to tell us* - was 18 weeks into our season, so you would have to compare their fitness/sharpness levels to ours in November. But let's lay into our team, players, and management first and foremost. An easier entity to target ... On a sidenote, clubs like Malm�¶ and Maribor contribute to their countries' international squads throughout the seasons, as do we with Scotland and Northern Ireland. Had reporters and fans alike took a look at tables who matter, not relied on some illusionary feeling of greatness, they would have spotted Scotland and Northern Ireland at position 55 and 59 in the FIFA rankings respectively. Sweden and Slovenia are head and shoulders above "us" though, taking up places 18 and 23 on that list. Those figures don't tell you much about the clubs we play against, but they show that at a certain level Swedish and Slovenian football has to be superior than their British counterparts. At least at this day and age.

    So essentially no news whatsoever, he looks to be back at Arsenal for the time being. Thought it was mentioned that he's actually released by them ...

    IMHO, Rangers have - in recent seasons (make that a dozen) - been overprotective of their youths as well as not willing to play them ahead of seasoned (and better paid) professionals, even though the latter were being used out of position or having a purple patch. The point why we look "longingly" at the Dorrans and Murphys and Goodwillies is the simple fact that their clubs simply had to use them, for they had and have no money to buy folk from elsewhere. Thus, their talented (and - granted - untalented) youth players get competitive football under their belt from 19 or 20 years onwards. Some develop, some remain at SPL level, and other don't make it. Obviously, at Ibrox, all our youngsters would come under intense scrutiny. If they show their mettle though, like Hutton, Ness, Wylde and Perry of late, they should get their games ahead of people who are not performing at their peak (even if temporary), such as Whittaker, Edu, or the like. For IMHO the club cannot and shall not risk poor results and poor play by veterans because of the possible harmful effects of a bad game by one of the youngsters. As for the rest, we should start to develop some tactics and have line-ups ready for different games, utilizing our players to the best of their ability and to the utmost effect. Rotate the squad, so all get competitive footie under their belt, and use systems that suit the game of the day. E.g., 3-5-2 at home (especially against weaker teams), 5-4-1 or 4-4-2 away. And ... use substitutes!

    I'd consider a team with no Lafferty plus Edu and McCulloch in midfield "under strength". But that remark was not solely referring to the people on the park, but the general state of fitness, tactics used et al, as I also pointed out.

    Anyone got any sort of info on Rhys Murphy then? Young, freebie, Arsenal-trained, I'd reckon good enough for the SPL ...

    Of course, since we did not spend much so far, there should be some neat income from last seasons CL in our coffers, unless some of it was used to finance the re-signings.

    Where's that evidence? All I have seen was a player behaving like a bampot, first giving away a simple goal, then getting himself send-off. I saw us missing a number of gilt-edge chances at home, chances we'd have scored nigh any other day. But that was essentially pre-season for us, when sharpness levels could simply not be at a level you have seen in May. Add to that the fact that we were under strength and had a not exactly a settled side out there ... as well as utilizing some well practised, but essentially not very productive tactics. Against Maribor, we gave away silly goals which cost us over all. That is football for you. We've laughed about any such happenings when being done by other teams many times before.

    Why don't wanting to be rude when you are, actually? I differ from your opinion, an opinion that is obviously based on different standards, like ... Weiss, Laudrup, or a Diouf maybe. It would be easy if you'd just accept that. But lets reserve judgement on that "woeful" Spaniard till the end of the season then. As for decent signings ... all a matter of opinion too, as I said in the rumours thread.

    Thus far only a rumour. As usual, we'll have to wait at least 24h or a statement from the club ere we have a clearer picture. As for attracting players ... we have this through. If people think that Bedoya, Bocanegra, Goian, Ortiz or Wallace are not decent players, so be it. Subjective opinion. As for the attractivity of Rangers, some would jump at the chance (e.g. Juhasz) but are priced out by their clubs or wage demands et al. Others are simply not interested in coming to this country or the club - for a vast variety of reasons. That is the current state of affairs in Scotland and at Rangers right now. The sooner people accept it the better. We should start to shed the mantle we acquired during NIAR or the Advocaat money spending years and return to the reality of now. A reality that is far from being just decent.

    Now ... that leaves me baffled. No matter what it means to you, people are up in arms about apparent training methods and time at Murray Park and tell these much-paid people to get it right, but when I tell them that German teams don't do it much differently, that's all irrelevant? When you would expect that these slaggers acknowledge the fact that German footie is somewhat superior than Scottish footie and that you would expect their training time would show that. It doesn't. That's what I am saying. Nothing more, but nothing less. On a sidenote, you'd have to ask people who are there on a daily basis about what is actually going on at Murray Park. People like Willie Vass, for example. Else, we're just reporting on hearsay and rumour. Great reading indeed. Makes a solid basis for scapegoat hunting ... no? On a second sidenote ... is the London press full of articles about an "all time low of London football" after the massacres on Sunday?

    As I said before, the US chaps and the Australian jumped at the chance to play for us (and not some non-descript teams) and AFAIK are all seasoned and well-trained pros. That they are not Ally's first picks does not change their attitude or ability. If they manage to do a job for us - and IMHO none of them has failed to do so thus far - I won't mind whether we sign them from ManU or Bognor Regis.

    Sky and German Bild say we might have been interested in Theofanis Gekas (Greek 30-year old striker plying his trade at relegated Eintracht Frankfurt), with the latter adding that we are bereft of money - now that we are out of Europe - though looking to "get enough together" till Wednesday. Wonder what happened to freebie Rhys Murphy and trialist Lopez ...
