Gersnet Prediction League - World Cup Brazil 2014
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
I was right to mention how light Brazil are in midfield and attack. Fred in attack is pitiful, Paulinho and Gustavo aren't the level past teams have had and Hulk seems to be anonymous most times I watch him. Their full backs are terrific going forward but pretty weak defensively and Luiz is weak at CH, far better in midfield. They will definitely get beaten by Spain, Germany etc. In terms of midfield and attack, it's only Oscar and Neymar that are the calibre of the Brazils of years gone by. Perhaps Luiz too if he was played in midfield. -

We had already lost our place. The vote was for us to be reinstated. -

They voted for us not to be reinstated in the SPL. They didn't lose their place. -

Congratulations to them... -
We should not be signing players of his ilk at all and I don't see what will change much in a year. If anything we'll be more destitute. How much youth do we need? Well considering only 2 play regularly clearly we need to be playing more. Presumably our youths are not good enough as that must be the only reason the manager doesn't play them? A good policy for signing younger players is Liverpool. They are focusing on signing players under 25 and only sign the odd player over that age. Oh and the standard of football is very important next year, if we don't start playing something vaguely resembling football soon then we are in for years of hurt. We can't just rely on spending big on individual talent to carry us through games. This 'just win the league by any means necessary' approach is the type of short-terminism that has blighted our recent history. PS - You're having a giraffe if you think those youngsters will all suddenly be regular starters together in the SPL. The average age we played once the league is over is more what we will be aiming for.

Why can we not for once look further than the end of our nose and try to sign players with a view to beyond the following season? Do you really think he is going to be the difference between us winning it or not? With the resources we have already spent we should be walking the league with the squad we already have. 'Splash whatever cash we have'. We don't have any cash to splash hence why the small resources we do have should be spent on youngsters and quality.

I've joined. Can you edit your choices after the matches have been played? -
The vast majority of Ally's signings have been very poor, this will be another. We should only be signing players capable of competing with Celtic and Europe League teams over the next few years.

Putting Dailly in the same bracket as Weir and Berg. Bizarre.

Celtic must be quaking in their books at the prospect of playing against 29 year old St Mirren players.

Summer transfer window: Official ins/outs and transfer rumours

Heard Bale might be joining him. -
Which facts are these? The fact that we only played 2 youngsters regularly last season despite being in the third tier of Scottish football? The fact not a single new youngster got introduced last season on a regular basis? The fact we continued to stick with the favourites once the league was wrapped up? The fact that the Dundee Utd team that beat us had an average age almost 6 years lower than ours? The fact he lists McKay as someone to 'look at', yet he was punted out to Greenock and appears to have little future speaks volumes. He might be inconsistent but he still got over 20 assists the season before last and would have been a far better option out wide than Peralta.

Former £16,000-a-week footballer Garry O’Connor...
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
Riordan had a good few decent seasons for Hibs. He's the third highest scorer in SPL history and wasn't even an out and out striker. Career fell apart and he is an arse. Another Scot who had the talent but never capitalised on it. He's another one we were heavily linked with not long ago. -

Poor Ian . This has not gone down well and I agree with Bluedell that it's not the right time or the place.

There's been quite a few weak international tournaments in recent years but I can't wait for the world cup. It will be a spectacle. After having watched us and Chelsea all season I think I am due 3 matches a night of entertainment (particularly after watching us)

Kenny Miller Completes Rangers Hat-trick
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
By the way, when I said key factor, I was referring to the constructs of our argument regarding youths. But if by some bizarre scenario we had to spend 2 seasons in SFL1 meaning we would be all the better for it in 5 or 10 years time, then bring it on. I want to see us competing with the top teams in Europe like we in 92 and 72. Given the difference in wealth such an event will unlikely happen in my lifetime but a club of our size should easily be comparable to a club like Porto. What is our recent record in Europe again, is it 2 or 3 wins in the last 23? That is an utter disgrace. You regularly criticise our board but the same incompetence is shared throughout our infrastructure.
