I try to be positive but people on this forum keep bringing me down!

You should try being realistic. You might like it.

I am always realistic. When we're shit I will say so, which has been the general way for years, and when we're great (like tonight), I will be full of praise.

It was men against boys tonight.

They had three unchallenged headers in the first half that they could easily have scored from save poor finishing on their part. They got lucky with the goal as I don't think the boy means to do that and if he did he's some player. They were clean through on goal twice on our left hand side and we managed to clear it. Aye other than that it was non-existent?

I would be interested in seeing the stats, which I think will back me up. They're not showing on BBC. Does anyone have them?

We all see things differently, but I saw absolute domination.

Decent result and great performance.  We look like a completely different team from the last 2 seasons already.

Oh God, I’m getting giddy with optimism.  I haven’t felt like that in a while about Rangers.

Aside from Warburton's first season (against the second tier), this is the first time since 10/11 that we've looked like a proper Rangers side. I actually feel a sense of pride watching us now. Early days but it's looking great.

A well deserved 3-1 win in the end.

We upped the pace of the game after half-time and looked more assured defensively as well.  OK, we can still do better in the final third but we did well to create a penalty from nothing and a superb Murphy cross late on seen us grab what could be a vital third goal.

Lots still to do in Slovenia but no reason at all we can't go through.

I thought Morelos was immense, as was Tav.  However, man of the match was Coulibaly who was nothing less than a colossus.

    We're going through.

  5. We were absolutely fantastic tonight. The first two sides we played are mince, but Maribor are a side playing in Europe every season and twice being in the CL stages in recent years. There's no way on earth we would have mustered a 3-1 victory to such a team last season.

Things are definitely looking up. I think SG is one of these world class players whose qualities transcend into management.

In the real world, the "correct way" for managers is to win and to marshall his resources towards it.

Lol today on Gersnet I have read an ex player that played for our future opposition is refereeing the game....and a team actually left the grass long to stop the other side playing football.

It really is no wonder both our club and national sides are pitiful.

Contrary to what a few have said I think Maribor will be a noticeable step up in quality from Osijek and will pose a genuine threat. Skupi were terrible and Osijek were bang average whereas Maribor performed very well in the Champions League last season and have a strong track record in Europe. It's very exciting to see how we hold up against a European side with genuine pedigree. I think they will be playing for 0-0 and it could be a very frustrating game for us.

Of course they should be. Osijek are a diddy little team, whereas Maribor have twice been in the CL group stages in recent years.

When I was refereeing my own youth team I actually had a reputation for giving the other team the benefit of doubt. So being an ex-player doesn't mean he will be against us.

It doesn't really matter what it does or doesn't mean. Having an ex-player refereeing a game his former team is featuring in is beyond ridiculous. A ref is meant to have no vested interest in a match and has to declare any team(s) he has any allegiances to. So this makes no sense.

What a tin pot league setup we have.

Doesn’t matter, the league season is 38 games, not 4

And if we won those games we would have won the league. The tims proved when it mattered that they had a much better attack than us.

We were absolutely garbage in attack last season.

I really am gone now ?

No, you have to be either wired to the moon to think the highest scorers in the league were awful or you have to say every team was awful.

the stats don’t back up your theory.  Do I think Celtic were better in attack than us ? Yes.  But given we scored the most goals in the league suggests we were far from awful.... but you and I have been here with your overuse of superlatives before :D

We scored 2 more goals than Aberdeen did the season before. Did Aberdeen have a good attack that season? Did they hell. Scoring 70 odd goals in Scotland isn't difficult.

    I'm out.

Brilliant. Way to boil the season down to 5 games and one of those stolen from the cup at that.

    Genius

I did tell you pete hes not fishing. He believes this shit.

Erm, yeah, those are our most important fixtures of the season.

  12. LOL I am not wasting any more time on this. You would have to be wired to the moon to not accept that A - we were awful attacking wise last season and B - the tims were miles better.

And furthermore, we are still significantly lacking in attack and need much better.

yes but as we saw in the two games we just played, he's a very influential player for a LB and a lot of their play flowed through him.   It strikes me as an opportunistic signing, and one we could well make a tidy return on should he work out

He's the type of player we should be signing in terms of age, background and the quality he appears to have. However, we are looking very strong defensively and still very poor going forward. It's going to be a long season if Lafferty and Morelos are the main strkers we have to choose from. And Murphy, Windass etc aren't goods enough for the supporting positions. At least Middleton looks promising.

Have you looked at who we scored against?

    Obviously not.

Yeah, I remember all too well. 2 against Celtic in 5 games, while they scored 14.

    I rest my case.
