  1. Some clubs have made it work for them. For example, AC Milan (90's) had a very different approach to taking care of the veterans (mind and body) as well as the fact that the players were top level. What a club has to do if they decide to go down the high average age and several chronically injured players is to at least have the very best sports science/medical approach that will get more games/minutes out of those players, at as high a performance level as possible. We seem to have gone down the route of a significant percentage of older/chronically injured players and at the same time, our medical / sports science don't seem to be at the top of their game. Not a good combination.
  2. I'd be speculating on our own young potential and spending money on those with slightly more experience. We have to get realistic as to how far we can go with the budget we have.
  3. Squad had too many old and chronically injured that needed managed and liable to miss a lot of minutes. Squad mgmt was awful. It was basically set-up to fail. Not hindsight. I said it before the season began. It was obvious.
  4. Weren't Jack and Roofe operated on (taking longer) so as to rid them of their constant repeat injuries. Or was it somebody else?
  5. Tillman could become special. Sands may become decent. The conditionals are outside bets and we don't have enough money to speculate.
  6. Contrast with SG's staff would be stark. Total Days lost to injury. Sometimes, doing things on the relative cheap turns out expensive.
  7. Sunderland are perhaps the only club daft enough to take him. Or where does Martin Bain work these days?
  8. Plan B required Apparently Roofe was back and has now gone away again.
  9. I don't know about your arse but can't really disagree with the pathetic.
  10. Let us say a hypothetical 5M. Still a huge hole in our budget to overhaul the squad. Haven't got much in the way of valuable players to sell on, unless the youngsters like King and Lowry start to play like demons.
  11. That would be a huge hole in our football budget. After Villa money for Gerrard&staff we probably thought it would be a good idea to give the manager a relatively long contract. Don't think we'll be going down that road again.
  12. At least the manager is trying
  13. Unless we sort ourselves out Ajax reserves would beat us.
  14. Tav recently told us that he is physically 100%. In the lead-up to the game on Saturday, he now tells us that the dressing room is right behind GvB. Did he omit to say they were carrying a dagger?
  15. In the four games against Liverpool and Napoli, Ajax have conceded 15 goals. Exactly the same as we have. They aren't close to elite level. We made them look better than they are in Amsterdam.
  16. Posing with the image for photos that would go public. Causing the predictable bipolar reactions that in the moment might not matter but further down the line, may be a pain in the arse.
  17. A pig thick, ignorant footballer making mistakes is one thing. But an intelligent poster on here should know better.
  18. Too easy a mistake to make just now #Plethora
  19. I note a fair bit of noise coming out of Aberdeen regards taking something from Ibrox on Saturday. Yes, they appear to have a better chance than in recent years but crowing about it prior to the game usually works against them.
  20. Modern society isn't interested in character. It seems to be geared to produce quite the opposite. Football is just a small part of it. Weak willed individuals scrolling down some shite on their mobile phones is the order of the day.
  21. Belguim (8th) have now overtaken Scotland (9th) in co-efficient table. Austria (10th) have an outside chance of doing so as well before the end of this campaign. Won't get worse than that, so I think that the Scottish champions of next season will get direct access to the CL group stages or perhaps it will be the new league format of 36 teams. Another unwelcome stat is that we have the worst goal difference number of the 96 teams in the three European competitions.
  22. Hearts victory last night was their second group stage win in the European Conference. Another defensive injury (Kingsley/ Hamstring tweak) has Hearts really struggling as the two games a week continues up to the WC (Ross County are 3/1 to bt them at the weekend)....An optimistic Fiver on a Livingston and Ross County double pays 240 This weeks results were almost a mirror image of the reverse fixtures Rangers 0-3 and 3-0 Hearts 0-2 and 2-1 Celtic 1-1 and 1-1 Scottish clubs in Europe update (including qualifiers) Games Played : 25 (9) Goals For : 17 (7) Goals Against : 59 (23) (Rangers numbers in brackets) Although Hearts win boosted the co-efficient slightly, Belguim jumped above us in the table. We are now 9th and Austria (10th) have an outside chance of overtaking us this season but that is as bad as it will get. So I think that means that the Scottish Champions next season will gain direct access to the CL.
  23. Morelos is no dud. He is a poor professional, too often with a terrible attitude. We know he can be a top player but we have seen it only on relatively fleeting occasions. Unfortunately when he reached his best level, he got his first real injury and his level predictably went backwards until he broke, against Dundee. As for the sitter against Napoli. No real surprise, he has missed countless sitters over the years.
  24. History gives differing takes on the chance of winning the game (not by 5 goals). - The negative is that Ajax always beat us (5 out of 5 thus far) 3-2, 3-1, 4-1, 1-0, 4-0 - The positive is that in Gio's other CL group campaign with Feyenoord started with 5 defeats but ended with a home victory. A win would bring in 2.8M euros, so hardly a dead rubber.
  25. You are just talking bullshit now. Fine, disagree on a possible signing target but wind in the accusations of racism. It is gamesmanship and you see it every week. If there is a dislike of colour involved, it is blue (shirt) but Maurice Johnston wasn't keen on it either until he got well paid for wearing it.
