SPFL clubs asked to consider expansion to 48 member clubs
Rousseau replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
There are certainly far too many clubs in Scotland. The smaller ones should merge. That's not going to happen, though. You can trust the SPFL to mess up anything. However, I am a Rangers fan. I want our Colts in the League structure. -
Yes, I agree. I hate it. It's a manager with no imagination. It's endemic in the UK.

I thought England were poor. I don't think they had any idea how to break Germany down; it was all off-the-cuff, while being quite solid at the back, and waiting for someone to produce a piece of magic. Fair enough, France won the WC playing like that, and Portugal the Euros. Horrible way to play, though. Germany were poor; they were looking poor coming into the tournament, to be honest.

What about those finishing as Champions in each season? -
Patrick Vieira to Crystal Palace, too.

When you hovered over an avatar or the person's name it would have a 'currently viewing' section. It doesn't matter - I was just joking about.

All 42 SPFL clubs are being asked to consider a proposal that would lead to an increase in the number of teams within the leagues to 48 over the next three seasons. The additional teams would come from B teams from Rangers and Celtic with two teams from each of Highland and Lowland leagues taking the number up to 48. In the proposal there would be no relegation from the bottom of League 2 for the next three campaigns and by season 2024-25 there would be four leagues of 12 teams. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57651255

I thought I'd make this a pre-season megathread, for all things pre-season. I'm expecting more from Itten this year. He made cameos last season, but nothing consistent, so I'd like to see him take a step up and push for a starting spot. I'm worried about Patterson. He's more than good enough to play. But, he has Tavernier ahead of him... I'm concerned he's not going to get the games he needs to help him progress. I do hope a youngster can make an impact pre-season. We're still short in midfield, so I'd like to see some signings in that area. In that vein, I'm curious to see how Nnamdi Ofoborh gets on (No-- I didn't look up the spelling... ?).

Ah, bugger! I had Spain to win 1-2. Just missed out. -
Frank De Boer is an awful coach. Thank f*ck the Rangers board didn't listen to the fans! Spawny Czechs, nonetheless... I thought the Wales manager's comments were hilarious. He said for the first 15 minutes Wales were better, and that Denmark had to change tactics to deal with them. Is that not the point of a manager?

I think the reactions are getting out of hand when it comes to Gilmour. He's played 1 game for Scotland, and a handful for Chelsea, and he seems to be being portrayed as world-class!? Someday, maybe; but not yet. He's a classy wee player that would certainly be able to contribute to our side, but he's not even going to improve the team massively, never mind somehow take us up a level. He's a younger version of Davis. (I'm not so sure he'd get in ahead of Davis, going by Davis' performances last season. Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it.) I think the Tartan Army's reactions to their results sum it up: get beat by the Czechs and Scotland are pish, barely qualifying through the back door; draw with England and Scotland are going to win the Euros! Black and white. Calm down. -

I see Gilmour as an ideal Davis replacement, but I'm not in favour of a loan player taking that place, unless we can get him for something like a 2-year loan. Our team is quite reliant on a metronomic, deep-lying playmaker. I'd prefer to see Kelly get a shot at it. Or bring in a proper, long-term replacement. -
It's been a pretty good tournament thus far. The games have been a lot less defensive than I expected. And, actually, the fact that the best third place teams can qualify has made the last group day far more interesting. Last night's matches in the group of death were brilliant. At one stage each side was knocked out! I'm still not sure there's a stand-out side?
