  1. Standard Liege did us a wee favour. If Poznan had won they would be on 6 pts, adding more pressure to the next 2 games IMO.
  2. Hot on the heels of Andy Walkers proclamation that The Tic were on top at Parkhead (1-4)...Paddy Bonner declares on the BBC webpage that sellik are "in control" of the match at 2-1 down. It ends up 1-4 again. Safe to say, I won't be asking these guys for the lottery numbers anytime soon...
  3. A truly gifted but majorly flawed individual. One only wonders what havoc he would wreak in today's no tackling version of football.
  4. Either way they are in trouble. Good luck finding a manager mid season who will come in and hit the ground running.
  5. Could have been another 8 tbh. A very professional display, leaving plenty of gas in the tank for Thursday. 3 pts, yet another clean sheet and healthy boost to the GD. Happy days
  6. What a truly pathetic waste of space. Their whole existence is based on their hatred for us whereas they don't even register with Rangers fans. A one way rivalry is not a rivalry
  7. After the extended international break, it is possible that our momentum maybe somewhat halted, so any kind of win is paramount today. Don't care how it happens as long as we go out the door with all 3 pts to keep the pressure on them. Regardless of their games in hand, a potential 11 pt lead at this stage of the season would be amazing. Playing catch up with an 11pt deficit is a lot more pressured than doing it with a 2/3 pt difference. Bring it on!
  8. In a tight 2 horse race, draws are as good as defeats IMO. We just need to make it count tomorrow now and keep applying pressure. Our fate is firmly in our own hands.
  9. I hope Kent does not start showboating. Just runs the risk of getting battered and ultimately injured Great stuff Gers. Let's keep it going!!
  10. You're probably on the money Syntax. I recall a quote from Cruyff about not wanting to play football metres away from torture chambers? Maybe it was just a smokescreen to keep the kidnapping plot quite? As you say though, you can imagine Cruyff being quite political. The other story from 78 is Scotland beating Netherlands 3-2. Is there not also doubt about this game as the Netherlands did not want to top the group as that meant playing Argentina in the next group phase. One other memory was France wearing a green and white striped jersey (donated by a local club) due to strip mix up?
  11. I did say one of the reasons. He did express his opposition to the regime in Argentina before 78
  12. I'm sure this was one of the reasons Cruyff did not take part in the tournament and ultimately retired from International football
  13. The format of the 78 world cup was very different to the current tournaments. There essentially were no knockout phases or semi finals as the teams went into another group of 4, with the 2 group winners heading to the final. In Argentinas group, they were required to beat a decent Peru side by 4 goals to overtake Brazil. The final score was 6-0 with some truly awful "defending" by the Peruvians. Peruvians officials have subseuntly stated that the match was indeed fixed.
  14. Sellik "legend" Chris Sutton now effectively calling for Lennon to go. Oh dear. 4 away games on the bounce and Lennon openly admitting he needs a victory tomorrow. Let's see what unravels. Maybe Dave King had a point?...
  15. And don't forget how corrupt their 1978 win was...
  16. Not MOTM but I thought Jack had his best game in ages last night. He was more dynamic than usual
  17. Ok, the draw kind of felt like a defeat but let's get real here. 3 years ago we were getting beat by a team from Luxemburg. Last night we were a whisker away from beating a CL quality team who have never lost a Europa Cup match at home. Take away the two defensive blips, I thought it was one of the most accomplished performances I've ever seen from a Rangers team in Europe. Oh and what about the Tims? Is it true that Sparta hadn't played any form of football for a while out with the EL?
  18. Not to look too far ahead but are they not away to Hibs after that?
