The Summer 2024 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

So if we get the rumoured £3-4M for Tav, how much of that do we spend in a replacement right back? We will 100% need a replacement as Sterling whilst a "find" last season had injury problems (and has historically). A decent fee and freeing up hus wages is a good outcome but be interesting to see how the money is used. -

The linked article says he's expressed a desire to leave City in this window but they've not received any offers as yet. -

He has been relegated back to Bristol City's U21s as he is refusing to sign a new contract. Don't know much about him, scored 20 goals in 82 appearances. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/tommy-conway-bristol-city-contract-9421002 -

When a respected Turkish media outlet was asked if Fabrizio was on the mark with this, they replied "no". Time will tell I suppose. EDIT - another Turkish outlet saying personal terms agreed but clubs are £1M apart on the fee. -

I'm sure I read that SGs club have reached their quota of foreign players so they'll need to sell before they buy. Maybe Bisgroves newly promoted club are in the market for a few players? I think us pinning our hopes of moving players on the Saudi Market shows just how desperate we are. -

Yeah, I'm sure that will be Brightons preferred option. I wonder what price they are looking for? -

So Clement mentioned yesterday that we've convinced some players to join, but still have to agree the "finacials". So are we thinking these players are? McLean, Jordan and Sima? As for outgoings, appears Lammers isn't willing to drop wages (his perogative) so stuck with him hopefully just in the short term. Sheffield Wednesday managed mentioned he was hopeful of adding players this week, hopefully Scott Wright is one of those. All gone quiet on the Tav and Goldson to Saudi and Goldson to Birmingham. so little or no action until we can shift some players. -

Probably agree with Kamara - but we still made a very good profit on him. We definitely dropped the ball with Kent and Alfie especially when it could be argued that both excelled in Europe rather than domestically. This should have seen them both sold at a decent profit or very healthy profit in Alfie's case. -

A shit finisher doesn't end up with 20 goals in a season. Alfie got as many chances and never scored 20 goals a season (same with Roofe and DeFoe). He had other attributes that were better than Dessers (strength, ability to play and thrive as a lone striker). If we can get £5M or more for Dessers then we should sell him. All our players have a pricetag and if an offer is received that matches that and the player wants to leave, then the deal will happen. If neither of these things happen, we either sell at a loss or the player stays. With Tav and Dessers, if they leave then no matter what we think of them, there will be a negative impact (goals and assists). Off course, their replacements may score and assist more, or they may not. If we are solely talking about selling players at the right time, then my argument is these 2 players aren't in that category. Tav should have been sold 2 or 3 years ago (but remember we sold Patterson for £16M, a fee we'd never have gotten for Tav), and Dessers has only been here 1 season and in that season, like it or not, he contributed. Put it this way, currently Tav & Dessers are the only 2 players in our squad who have the ability to score 20 goals a season. I don't like or dislike either of the players mentioned but as I said earlier, I would prefer if we moved Lammers on ahead of Dessers. As for posting previous stats, it's all we can do, can't post / predict the future..... -

Who is our top goalscorer against Celtic over last 2 seasons? He should have, but what about the players who didn't score 20 last season? They exempt form being on the must sell list? Also, name me a striker who's in our price range that doesn't miss chances? -

See, your twisting things again. The cold hard facts are we don't know of we received any offers or if players said no to a move. And the remainder of my post stands. Easy to sell top international and world class players especially when you are winning the EPL and European trophies. We did great business with Bassey, Patterson, Aribo and Kamara. Need more of this type of player / sale. -

Comparing apples with bananas. SAF was selling from a position of power, managing a very successful team who's players were all international, and some even world class. So they were highly sought after. We've had 1 (arguably 2) successful seasons in the last 2 decades. Easy to sit and say we should have sold "x" two years ago not knowing of there were any interest in the player, or if indeed the player wanting to leave. Thats not cloying sentiment, just cold hard facts. EDIT - I think we have shown that we do and can sell players at the right time - Bassey, Patterson, Kamara and Aribo - circa £50M for players we paid very little for -

Off course there's a time to sell players, however the two you mention don't really fall into that category. Tav has 1 year left on his contract and signed for £200,000 pounds. Unless an offer is accepted from Saudi we ain't getting much for him. His positive contribution to the team still outweighs his "negative" contributions. Not lose much keeping him for this season (and phase him out). Dessers signed last season and scored 20 goals. If we can make a profit on him, we should definitely sell (same goes for any player). However, why should we sell at a loss when he's shown he can score goals? If he stays and scores 30 goals this season his value will rise. The issue we have is we paid over the odds for him. I don't think we are stable enough financially to sell assets at a loss and that goes against the player trading model we are trying to introduce. -
As a side-note, Andy Websters son is captain of our B Team today.

I just don't see how selling / paying off players who contributed last season (and previous seasons in Tavs case) is going to suddenly improve us. Surely getting rid of the players who haven't/didn't contribute is the better strategy? -
1-0 to Leeds with circa 15mins left to play

0-0 at half-time and Lammers substituted. There goes any chance of Leeds putting in a cheeky wee bid for him.
