Match Thread [FT] Rangers 1 (Tavernier 60' pen) - 2 Motherwell

We are playing badly. Our defence is being rag-dolled and our midfield (Dio apart) are being overran. The one clear chance we created, Silva missed when he really should score. The Referee is having a stinker, but shouldn't mask the fact that Morherwell are well worth their lead. The goal we lost was a cardoncopy of the chance we surrendered early in 2nd half on Wednesday. We were bailed out by Butland on Wednesday but he had no chance today. Our LHS is a worry both defensively and attacking. Far too many misplaced passes. In saying all that, we can turn this around and really, booing the team at halftime? However, the booing directed at the officials was justified. -

Ripped apart down our LHS - terrible defending. We haven't started at all. Motherwell lead is well deserved -

Regarding Dessers, he'll prove his doubters wrong, but listen, there are still Rangers fans, mental as it sounds, who still don't rate, or worse, want rid of Tav, or who don't rate Ridvan (mentalists). -
Sitting in a cafe this morning just around the corner from Sammys old pub which is now an empty shell (photo of it in its heyday below). He was great with our club back in the 80s - always made sure the costs were covered as some days they'd be as few as 6 or 7 of us (including the driver).

Another self indulgent post - two of my Dad's favourite Rangers players. Davie Wilson & Eric Caldow. Was lucky enough to meet Eric Caldow when I was a young YTS at local builders yard and he'd pop in as he was a salesman for one of their suppliers. He spent time talking to me and urged me to keep the faith (this was 1984) with Rangers. Proudest moment was walking past Main Stand one match day arohnd 1984 with my mates and Mr Caldow came past, recognised me and stopped and spoke with me / us. Brilliant player, great Ranger and a gentleman.

Self-indulgent as Sammy ran a pub in Bo'ness for years and when I first started going to football our mini-bus left from his pub. Spent many an hour listening to Sammy regale tales of his time at Rangers.

I have a good mate who is a diehard Hibbee and when we meet and the topic of football inevitably crops up, he waxes lyrically about Smith (and rightly so). Mates sadly departed Dad would sit for hours telling him about Smith and the great Hibs (and others) teams of the past. Stories handed down from generation to generation, it's part of what makes football so special, no matter what team you support. Also helps you appreciate players from other eras / teams.

PC said when he took the job that he is a manager who likes to work with what he's got, to work with them to improve them, he's certainly done that. He has also managed to navigate us this far with a horrific injury list and in Sterling, found a player who'll play anywhere and look comfortable anywhere. That helped us when we were short in centre-mid. However, with players falling like flies and our creative players being most impacted, it's going to test those fit to the maximum - we are short of options, so those fit must deliver. Even with a fully fit squad and all players playing to the maximum, we would likely drop points at some point. We just have to strap ourselves in for the highs and lows as we hurtle towards the business end of the season where awards are handed out. Given the reaction during and after the recent Ross County game at Ibrox (one of the best performances this, or recent seasons) shows some supporters aren't ready for "bumps in the road" and will revert to type. Telling that PC mentioned the fans on Wednesday - our travelling support get criticism for certain actions (song book, pyrotechnics etc) but one thing is evident, they are far more vocal and back the team 100% - he has also asked for fans at Ibrox to stay for 90+ minutes and not to desert the team after 75 / 80mins but fear that plea will fall on deaf ears - if only of home support Union Bears apart) was as passionate, loud and appreciative as our away support. Calm heads both on and off field are required and the players and manager have continually stated that we need to stay with and trust the manager and team. -

Trust the manager and trust his selection - he hasn't got much wrong since he joined. -
I think it's imperative to beat them any / ever time we play them.
-
Weirdly, we could win the league this season without beating Celtic. I don't think that will happen, I think we'll need to beat them at least once in the league.
-
Excellent article and whilst I agree with the vast majority of it, the part I agree with most is the requirement for long-term stability. Whilst PC has secured the League Cup, guided us into EL knock-out stages of the EL and has us dreaming of winning the title. Given what's happened both on and off the pitch since 2013, I can't help but feeling a little nervous that things are going "too well". PC has said himself that there will be dumps in the road, its inevitable. What is important is how we as fans deal with those bumps / knocks. Historically, we'd scream for players to be dropped (still evident on here even though we are on an amazing winning run), managers to be sacked, and public floggings etc. If, and it's a big if things start to go wrong (if our injuries get any worse, this is a distinct possibility), we need to stay calm and trust the process. We all want to win the league this season, but not winning it shouldn't result in players being ridiculed and cries for the manager to be sacked. Time for stability and I think most of us would agree that PC has shown enough to justify that he is the one to bring stability and most importantly success whether it be this season or not.

Tomorrow's team selection will be interesting given our injury list is getting longer when we need it to be getting shorter. Worryingly its the forward/creative areas that are most affected - Danilo, Sima, Cortes, Cantwell, Dowell, Matando all missing with Roofe and Lovelace working towards full fitness. Falls on Wright, Dessers, Silva, Lawrence and McCausland to create and score the goals we require to win games. However, Dio has chipped in with a few, Tav always scores or creates. Need Souttar and Goldson to start scoring from corners and whomever at left back to start creating more. I think RY and BB only have around 7 or 8 assists between them this season - not nearly good enough. PC has managed, thus far to fit square pegs in round holes, time for him to find a secret centre-forward hiding in the squad - maybe just play Tav there 😀 -

So very few on here or in the broader Rangers support is yahooesque. Finally we can put an end to this nonsense. Have a great day and Rangers play again tomorrow so not long until the madness recommences. -

Looking into a ref to see who his father is? You don't have to look into his life to find that out, usually their name gives it away. Having to look into a refs life to ascertain who his father is would be yahooesque as there are far more easier ways 🙄 So change the scenario, Gonzo is sitting next to a bloke who says "mate, see this Referee, he's utter mince, I've been saying that for months, he's been anti-Rangers for years". Gonzo - "oh be quiet mate, that's so yahooesque". I believe he'd get a robust reply. Anyway it wouldn't happen as he (and most people) wouldn't say it to someone at a game as they know what reaction it would receive. Far easier throwing "insults' around on an Internet forum. But to be clear and to put a line under this, do you believe / think that if any Rangers fan believes and discusses the ongoing failures of referees and VAR, over the course of a season, they are, by default, yahooesque? -

A fine description of the current refeeing situation in Scotland. I do wonder if anyone else had called you yahooesque that your response would have been so affectionate 😉 If Gonzo was to call someone yahooesque whilst sitting amongst Bears at Ibrox, or an away ground for slating a refs decision or performance, I'd bet he'd get a more robust response 😀 -

I'm even more confused. So Bill, Frankie et all are not yahoos (off course they are not), but if (and they have) they have moaned about Referees, they are by your definition, yahooesque? Distinctive character..... manner...... so not just "ressemble" For context from a previous post ; "What does it mean when someone says esque? an adjective suffix indicating style, manner, resemblance, or distinctive character: arabesque; Romanesque; picturesque." -

Really? Suppose you mistakenly missed my name out the list? So if you didnt really mean those, or a select few of those who question refs aren't doing so in the style of yahoos, why use the phrase? Don't back down, double down. -

Is it just one of those weird coincidences that appear to infest Scottish football that the current head of VAR and VAR on duty at our game last night is the son of ex-ref who just last week admitted on a podcast that he cheated in an OF game by not sending off a Celtic player? -

So yahooesque would mean any Rangers fan who questioned officials were doing so in the style, manner and resembling a yahoo? Oh, sorry my mistake, makes the accusation seem fair and objective. -

So for the benefit of the less intelligent (I.e me), by yahoo-esque you mean.....???? You wrote those questioning officials were yahooesque and that it would he nice to enjoy a win without being paranoid (or words to those effect). So those questioning officials and enjoying the victory whilst questioning decisions would be "paranoid" and "yahooesque".
