  1. Here's a laugh. The Daily Bedlam finally has real bedlam to report. SPFL asks the SFA to intervene in their sponsorship row with Rangers after warning the champions their refusal to promote the league's £1.6m-a-year deal with car firm cinch could affect their distribution of prize money The SPFL have asked the SFA to arbitrate their sponsorship row with Rangers The Ibrox club are refusing to promote the £1.6million a year tie-up with cinch Despite weeks of discussions, the two sides have failed to sort out the problem SPFL board have 'reluctantly' referred case to the SFA for an independent ruling By STEPHEN MCGOWAN FOR MAILONLINE PUBLISHED: 15:23, 9 August 2021 | UPDATED: 15:28, 9 August 2021 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9876931/SPFL-asks-SFA-intervene-sponsorship-row-Rangers.html The SPFL have asked the SFA to arbitrate their simmering row with Rangers over an £8million cinch sponsorship deal after warning clubs that the dispute could hamper their ability to pay out prize money. The Ibrox club are in legal dispute with league chiefs after refusing to promote the £1.6million a year league tie-up with the online car firm on their jerseys or within their stadium. Rangers insist that rule I7 of the SPFL states that clubs are 'not obliged to comply with this rule if to do so would result in that club being in breach of a contractural obligation entered into prior to the commercial contract concerned.' Ibrox managing director Stewart Robertson claims the league were also informed that Rangers 'would be unable to provide the new sponsor with many of their rights due to a pre-existing contractual obligation' and accused the central body of blowing £500,000 of club cash on agency fees. Despite weeks of discussions, however, the two sides have failed to sort out their differences. And the SPFL board have now 'reluctantly' referred the matter to the SFA for independent arbitration amidst fears cinch could rip up the deal and walk away, depriving clubs of revenue. In an email breaking the news chairman Murdoch MacLennan told member clubs: 'The one SPFL club that has failed to deliver club inventory for cinch is also hampering the SPFL from promoting the SPFL's relationship with cinch by, for example, refusing to permit cinch-branded interview backboards to be delivered to, or used at, its home ground and to be used for broadcast partner interviews with club representatives at away matches. 'At their opening league match, none of that club's players wore the cinch branded sleeve patch; there were no LED advertising or static advertising boards with cinch branding allowed in the stadium; and the club concerned also refused to allow the use of the standard SPFL broadcast partner interview backdrop board displaying cinch branding. 'Over several weeks now, your board has sought to engage with the club concerned to find a way through this very serious impasse. 'However, we have been met with a refusal to give the board sight of any pre-existing third-party contract that would prevent the club from providing inventory for cinch. 'The refusal by one of our clubs to provide inventory for cinch presents a real and substantial commercial risk to the SPFL – and one which materially threatens the SPFL's fee payments to all 42 SPFL clubs. 'This is the first time in the history of the SPFL, or the SPL before that, where a club has not provided agreed inventory to the League for use in fulfilling a commercial Contract. 'Your board considers it has been left with no realistic option, in compliance with Scottish FA articles, other than to refer this dispute to Scottish FA arbitration. Your Board has reached this conclusion with great reluctance. 'However, your board believes that it has a clear obligation to embark upon this course of action to protect and advance the interests of the SPFL and all of its member clubs.' Rangers hit back at the SPFL by claiming they told them about their concerns over the £8m cinch sponsorship deal before it was signed Writing to clubs last week Rangers MD Robertson insisted the champions were within their rights to take issue with the £8million contract, writing: 'For the avoidance of doubt, Rangers continues to comply with the rules of the SPFL. 'One of the key rules that protects the commercial interests of all members is Rule I7. 'When the SPFL Executive put forward the written resolution with regards to the new sponsorship contract, Rangers immediately notified Neil Doncaster that, in line with Rule I7, we would be unable to provide the new sponsor with many of their rights due to a pre-existing contractual obligation. We cannot breach an existing contract. 'This is a legal principle which is founded in Scots Law and is the reason that the SPFL has Rule I7 within its rules. 'Rangers has complied with and will continue to comply with the SPFL rules and fulfil all sponsorship obligations which do not conflict with our pre-existing contractual obligations.'
  2. They have just beaten Dundee 6 (six) - 0, and that is after scoring 4 on Thursday. We'll be lucky to hit 10 by the end of September.
  3. Perhaps not......
  4. I hate to say it, but, today, we were beaten by a better side.
  5. Can we salvage a draw?
  6. I'm surprised only that it took so long. We have looked short all game.
  7. I hope that this mob run out of steam, because, football wise, they are bettering us for the most part.
  8. Jordan Jones - Wigan - permanent - undisclosed fee- offishull https://www.rangers.co.uk/Article/jordan-jones-departs-rangers/1HXAkYM5oHzLbwEoV3WMIm
  9. Davis. He hit the only note of note in a discordant performance.
  10. Well, the tie is still winnable, and Davis's away goal remains precious, although devalued, somewhat, this season. It is a little ironic that the Ist choice, go to, default, regulation, defence let us down with completely uncharacteristic, horrifying play.
  11. Done now, I fear. Kazakhstan is at its best this time of year, I am told
  12. I'm almost looking for a Livvi equaliser to galvanise our lot.
  13. I thought that BBC Scotland's Irishman, English, was a Cabbage and Ribs man.
  14. Now that is a young Sturgeon, who just didn't believe her granny when she said, "Nicola, behave, or your face will stay like that for the rest of your life." Well researched, Rousseau, well researched.
  15. Big Ange doesn't look quietly terrified........ ...............but he ought to.
  16. Obituary — Ally Dawson: A Rangers lionheart who loved the game Ewing Grahame Tuesday July 27 2021, 12.01am, The Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/obituary-ally-dawson-a-rangers-lionheart-who-loved-the-game-v565wmnds Ally Dawson, the former Rangers and Scotland full back, died at the age of 63 yesterday, after a long illness. A two-footed player who could be used with confidence on either flank, Dawson was unfortunate to captain the club during the nine-year spell between 1978 and 1987 when they failed to win the league title, although he enjoyed more success in cup competitions. He was signed as a 16-year-old straight from Johnstone High School early in 1975 and manager Jock Wallace gave him a first-team debut in Canada during a world tour the club undertook that summer. He took his competitive bow the following season in awkward circumstances. Defending a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their League Cup quarter-final against Queen of the South at Ibrox, Dawson played for the full 120 minutes as Wallace’s side needed extra time to claim the 2-2 draw which took them into the semi-finals. Rangers would go on to win the treble that season but Dawson, faced with tough competition from the likes of Sandy Jardine, Alex Miller and Alex Forsyth, would not establish himself in the starting XI until the 1978-79 campaign, when he made 36 appearances in all competitions and won the first of his six medals as Rangers claimed the Scottish Cup and League Cup in John Greig’s first season as manager. The following year he was part of the team which lost the Scottish Cup final to Celtic after extra time, an occasion which was marred by both sets of supporters fighting on the pitch at the end of the match. “My parents were at the game,” he said years afterwards. “It was the last game my mum, Elizabeth, saw live. It put her off the rest of it.” That same summer he fractured his skull while on another tour of Canada but the lionhearted Dawson was soon back in action. He reached the high point of his Rangers career the following season, when he captained a Davie Cooper-inspired side to a 4-1 win over Dundee United in the 1981 Scottish Cup final replay. He would go on to win three more League Cups with the club, the last against Celtic in 1986 under Graeme Souness. His ability to fill in at centre back helped to prolong his Ibrox career and he was unlucky to play in an era when Scotland were particularly well served in the full-back department. Nevertheless, he was selected five times by Jock Stein between 1980 and 1983. He played 316 times for Rangers, scoring eight goals, before joining Blackburn Rovers for £25,000 in 1987. He then had a spell in Ireland at Limerick and returned to Scotland with Airdrieonians before becoming player-manager of Maltese club St Andrews. Dawson later spent three years in charge of Hamilton Academical, guiding the Lanarkshire club to the Third Division title in 2000-01. He also managed the Scotland team at the 2016 Homeless World Cup in Glasgow. His family said in a statement: “It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ally Dawson following a long battle with illness. To us, Ally was a loving husband, father, son and brother but we know he meant a lot to so many others. We will remember the impact he had on our family with affection, inspired by the courage with which he fought his illness and the way he lived his life and grateful that Ally spent his final days with those he loved and who loved him.” A modest, engaging individual who loved watching and talking about football, he was a regular at Ibrox in his later years. Rangers — who inducted Dawson into their Hall of Fame in 2011 —paid a tribute to him on their official website. “The thoughts of the directors, staff and players of Rangers are today with the family and friends of Ally.”
  17. Close, but no cheroot. Yahoos = Glasgow City Council = Safety Advisory Group. That's how it works.
  18. Astrology, more like. 4 250 increments. Based on the no of spin doctors employed by the National Party Governent, divided by 2. Seems fair.
  19. The -very- new Lord Advocate has stepped aside from further involvement in legal cases and actions related to Rangers' administration, neatly, and, probably quite scrupulously and fairly, handing the hot potato, or, since this is a fitba' forum, giving the hospital ba', to the equally -very- new Solicitor General. Of note: "Arrangements have also been put in place to ensure that any allegations of criminal conduct in relation to these cases will be considered fairly and objectively, including the appointment of external senior counsel with no previous involvement." “The solicitor-general for Scotland, Ruth Charteris QC, will now issue instructions to the independent legal team and senior counsel advising on these cases." These, I take it are the lawyers who have already cost us c£1M in fees, disbursements, and expenses. A roast which continues to drip, too. Lord advocate Dorothy Bain recuses herself from Rangers administration cases Daniel Harkins Tuesday July 20 2021, 12.01am, The Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/lord-advocate-dorothy-bain-recuses-herself-from-rangers-administration-cases-gm98cxzn0 Dorothy Bain QC had previously acted for solicitors who worked for Duff & Phelps, the Rangers administrators Scotland’s new lord advocate has recused herself from further involvement in litigation relating to the collapse of Rangers FC over conflict of interest concerns. Dorothy Bain QC was appointed Scotland’s most senior law officer in June. Her predecessor, James Wolffe QC, had been forced to apologise to several people involved in the administration of the football club after they were wrongfully prosecuted. David Whitehouse and Paul Clark, who worked for the firm Duff & Phelps, were appointed joint administrators of Rangers in 2012. They were arrested in 2014. They were awarded more than £20 million after charges brought against them were dropped or dismissed. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said that on her appointment Bain had “raised the issue of a perceived conflict of interest as she had previously acted for a firm of solicitors who represented the corporate entity, Duff and Phelps”. It said that she had “recused herself from further involvement in related matters”. Its statement added: “The solicitor-general for Scotland, Ruth Charteris QC, will now issue instructions to the independent legal team and senior counsel advising on these cases. “Arrangements have also been put in place to ensure that any allegations of criminal conduct in relation to these cases will be considered fairly and objectively, including the appointment of external senior counsel with no previous involvement. “The lord advocate has written to the convenor of the [Holyrood] criminal justice committee to advise them of the new arrangements.” Nicola Sturgeon has previously backed calls for an inquiry into the prosecutions fiasco, once outstanding legal proceedings have concluded. Russell Findlay, the Scottish Conservative shadow community safety minister, said: “It is welcome that the lord advocate has agreed to recuse herself from future involvement in the Rangers malicious prosecution scandal after I raised concerns about her previous involvement in the case. “It is also quite proper that she will also take no role in consideration of any possible criminal prosecutions.”
  20. Andy Carroll has left Newcastle United, and is a free agent. (Light blue touchpaper, and retire to a safe distance.)
  21. A pity. I think that the lads may hit Blackpool, anyway. Lock up your daughters, Lancastrians.
