What kind of question is that? I imagine that the Leith players will be enjoying a large helping of of fear, and loathing. -

Another statement from the club which eschews statements. By Celtic Football Club Celtic Football Club confirmed today that Christopher Jullien has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating at home. We wish Christopher a speedy recovery. While all of the other members of the squad and backroom team have tested negative, we have been informed by the authorities that, having been deemed ‘close contacts’, Celtic manager Neil Lennon, assistant John Kennedy and 13 first-team players will be required to self-isolate on a precautionary basis as required by the current regulations. The Club would like to thank the Scottish FA, JRG and the Scottish Government for their assistance in managing this case. Celtic will, of course, fulfill its fixture against Hibernian this evening. Clearly we are hugely disappointed, as we know our supporters will be. The contacts were identified during the period from Wednesday last week, primarily around flight and team coach travel, during which time Celtic applied the same rigorous protocols used for pre-season training camps, UEFA match travel and for all domestic match arrangements in Scotland. These protocols have served us well in the past, as the Club has not had one positive case in our own ‘bubble’ until now. As we have already stated, Celtic’s decision to travel to Dubai for a training camp was for performance reasons. Whilst we were in Dubai, the announcements made on January 4 significantly changed the COVID landscape. The reality is that a case could well have occurred had the team remained in Scotland, as other cases have done in Scottish football and across UK sport in the past week. Celtic has done everything it can to ensure we have in place the very best procedures and protocols. From the outset of the pandemic, Celtic has worked closely with the Scottish Government and Scottish football and we will continue to do so. I expect that tonight's game will be cancelled due to an unplayable pitch, following frost, snow, frost, and rain. That is a decision for the match referee, of course, so "Paging Clancy, paging Clancy!" -

We should have a Law similar to that in rugby, where persistent infringement by a side leads to a yellow card for the next player to transgress. -

Celtic Boys Club manager 'stuffed banknotes in boy's mouth'

"There is a vast amount of character in the men in whose hands the youngsters are placed", said Sir Robt Kelly. Was he a bad judge? Or was there something more sinister? Or, to be scrupulously fair, was he another Knight of the Realm, involved with football, who was "Duped" ? Jim Torbett: Celtic chief vouched for abusive coaches in 1970s Marc Horne Wednesday January 06 2021, 12.01am, The Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/scotland/celtic-chief-vouched-for-abusive-coaches-in-1970s-tc797vrgn The man who authorised the creation of Celtic’s scandal-hit feeder club assured parents that their children would come to “no harm” if they joined. As chairman of Celtic FC Sir Robert Kelly vouched for the coaching staff at Celtic Boys Club, describing them as men of “vast character”. Jim Torbett, whom Kelly allowed to launch and lead the boys’ club in 1966, was later convicted of sexually abusing young players between 1967 and 1974. However, it has emerged that in 1971 Kelly, a former president of the Scottish FA, told parents that their boys were at no risk of harm if they signed up. The fact that he felt obliged to say so suggests that concerns for child welfare at the club had been circulating at the time. Kelly made the comments in his book Celtic, which was published weeks before his death, aged 68, in September 1971. He wrote: “I feel that no father or mother should have the slightest diffidence about letting a youngster come to join us at Celtic Park. “There is a vast amount of character in the men in whose hands the youngsters are placed. “We make bold to say that whatever good can come of youngsters joining up they will certainly come to no harm through their association with Celtic.” In 1966 Kelly and Jock Stein, the Celtic manager, gave permission for Torbett to start the boys’ club using Celtic’s name, crest and colours. In 1998 Torbett was jailed for molesting players including the future Scotland striker Alan Brazil. He was imprisoned for another six years in 2018 for sexually abusing boys between 1986 and 1994. The youngest was aged five. Last year it emerged that Torbett ran Celtic FC’s chain of club shops in the early 1990s and organised testimonial events for first-team players. In the past two years Jim McCafferty, a former Celtic FC kit man and boys’ club coach, has admitted 12 child sexual abuse charges and Gerald King, a one-time boys’ club chairman, was convicted of abusing four boys and a girl while working as a teacher. Last year Thompsons Solicitors, which represents 25 people who claim they were molested at the boys’ club over three decades, lodged papers on behalf of one survivor who is seeking damages from Celtic FC. The test case will be heard in the next few months. Celtic FC strongly contests the claims, insisting that the boys’ club was an entirely separate entity with which it had “historic connections”. In 2018 Celtic claimed that abuse allegations within the boy’s club “first emerged in the 1990s”. It was later revealed that in 1986 the senior club had held an investigation which exonerated Torbett and other coaches after serious concerns were raised by parents and boys. Celtic FC did not respond to a request for comment. Football -

It s not the fact the club has travelled to Dubai for a jolly that is, ultimately, the important issue, although that does stick in the craw of many, and may be considered ill-advised. Of significance is what happens when it gets there. I do not refer to young athletes with short attention spans having a rammy, they may behave impeccably, although, with some of their players, this may be a faint hope; how they adhere to Covid 19 protocols, instructions, requirements and guidelines, and how the club ensures compliance with these, are the salient points. The relevant section of the SFA Guidelines is below. From what is circulating on the internet, in pictures and videos, one might deduce comprehensive flouting. PREPARATION WITH USE OF HOTEL ACCOMMODATION Hotels should be utilised for essential use only. An appropriate member of team staff should contact the hotel management in advance of the team staying to verify necessary hygiene and safety measures will be in place. Clubs should ensure that the supporting staff numbers are as low as possible and should exclude any of those in high risk groups (age, underlying health issues etc.). Players and essential team staff to occupy single bedrooms. Hotel exclusivity for the team or exclusive floor/areas to avoid contact with other hotel guests is advised. If exclusivity is not possible, other guidelines may be possible which are as follows: • Private entrance for the team • Private hotel areas without other guests (hallways, dining rooms, meeting rooms) • Private lift/elevator. (Limiting number in lift to one at one time) • Ban on access for players and staff to the Wellness areas, gym and other common areas such as the bar, lounges or lobby. Alternatively, if hotel is exclusive to team, these areas should be closed • Hand sanitisers in the hallways, in front of and in the common rooms, in the medical rooms and if possible, in every room 1symptoms of infection. It is important to minimise contact with the hotel staff during meal times by following the specific guidelines as follows: • Well ventilated rooms, not too dry. 21o C, humidity 50 – 60% recommended • No touching of hotel fixtures and fittings such as elevator buttons, banisters or door handles by hand. Consider using elbows where possible • Take care when using portable electronic devices such as mobile phones/tablets/play stations etc. Do not use those belonging to other team/staff members • Even within a team, physical contact within 2 metres should be avoided as much as possible and should be limited to the playing field • Face masks for players and staff to be used during the stay, outside their own room, the dining room and the team bus • Special disinfection and cleaning of the rooms and premises to be used by the team immediately prior to check-in. Ensure good ventilation within bedrooms and other rooms to be used • No cleaning of the rooms while the team is in the hotel, no cleaning staff in the corridor when staying with sufficient towels and toiletries left in the room from he hotel staff or an accessible stock on the corridor, to avoid contact with the cleaning staff • Porters are not to be used, players and staff responsible for handling their own and other team equipment • Large dining and meeting rooms, in order to maintain current guidelines on physical distancing. Minimal number of hotel staff involved, team’s own support staff to provide services where possible For mealtimes: • Provide enough food, drink and tableware for meals before the players arrive • Food served in a made to order process by player/team staff and/or minimal number of hotel staff • Tables to be cleared after the players have left the room, ensuring the lowest number of staff are present in the dining room during meals Care should be taken to ensure that only staff considered essential for the game are with the team. When the home team uses a hotel, consider which staff need to be present in hotel prior to all of the previous. https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/media/7439/scottish-fa-return-to-matches-protocol_spfl-premiership.pdf -

Absolutely. I am still enjoying the fallout from yesterday. Loving it. Basking in it. Positively basking in it, actually. This thread is almost whollyScottish Presbyterian in tone, which is OK by me. However the time for auld claes, purritch, kail, and potatoes, is tomorrow.
