  1. You're right Craig, that was a lengthy reply. Did it capture the spirit of the original copy do you think?
  2. You heard it here first folks
  3. Killie too I think.
  4. With talk like this you'll incur the wrath of the forum police from certain quarters around here. Watch your back...
  5. What the hell is so bloody special about the sodding 15th of July? My anniversary is that day, as is the release of bloody Harry Potter, ditto the 3rd round qualifying draw for the CL. And now your deadline is that day too. The world is going to end on July 15th I'm telling you.
  6. sorry to laugh at your clear misfortune
  7. Sky Sports reporting he's rejected yet another offer.
  8. Ryan Giggs didn't play every single match for Man Utd last season by a long way. He's also playing a sitting role in central midfield when he is used rather than his old wing position which doesn't require as much pace. Weir's position does require pace, and he plays every match. The problem boils down to many fans, myself included, simply not wanting to continue on with a player who Ian Crocker constantly laughs at as an old player. Not that I care what he says in general, it's just that having a 41 year old player in modern football is very rare and it sticks out like a sore thumb. When Wilson broke through to the first team, I seem to recall he didn't take Weir's place - it was Bougherra he replaced. Now, admittedly Bougherra was having 'passport' problems and wasn't flavour of the month, but his form that season was good. I'd have much rather, at the time, seen Bougherra and Wilson than Weir. This to me suggests that even if a young player is good enough, Weir is still first choice. I just feel it's time to move on, but it doesn't look like we will.
  9. In the same match he was standing around trying to play offside when Izzaguirre I think it was crossed for Hooper's second. I was furious with him. And I'm probably in the minority but I really hate it when he gets aggressively involved with things - either confronting the ref, opposition players. It just doesn't set a good example.
  10. Many might argue we won the league in spite of Weir's failings, rather than because of his strengths and the way we played around him.
  11. Great wee striker for the SPL and just delighted to be here. Pleased we've kept him on.
  12. Nice story, that should make it into the book
  13. I think Gav reckons he's being a 'bellend' because one minute Cuellar is apparently for sale, the next he's not - remember our first bid was rejected, we were not actually told he wasn't for sale - we were quoted £3M. I don't really know if he's for sale or not, I hope he is, but only time will tell. But every passing day makes it look less likely.
  14. He's probably on about £3k at Utd - the idea of tripling that at Rangers at the very least is very likely appealing to him. Of course, when it happens to your club (Whittaker) it's infuriating and makes you dislike the player in question; when it is your club receiving said player, it's suddenly ok...
  15. ahem *cough*
  16. I just heard a rumour he's handed in a transfer request. You (might have) heard it here first.
  17. One thing I will add is opinion appears very divided on this.
  18. A few occasions his age got the better of him - and he was pretty much alone in handing that match at Parkhead to Celtic. He just isn't the future - he's been a great servant, but I just feel his time should have been up some while ago and he should have bowed out gracefully. I see him like Paolo Maldini, who kept playing on and on until eventually his final season was absolutely awful and his departure was a whimper, rather than bowing out on a high as the greatest defender the world has maybe ever seen.
  19. It's not about 'want', it's about genuinely believing in your own opinion. Like I said, I didn't agree with others that he was good during the run in, I thought he was merely less bad than previous. That was what I felt I saw, it wasn't me refusing to give credit. You may believe I am wrong, that is your opinion, and anyone else who shares your opinion. But it is not me being stubborn. That would be like guys who hated Lafferty and even decided he was rubbish during the run in, which in the opinion of many, he wasn't. Or those who thought Davis was mediocre for the whole season, and didn't improve during the run in. Personally I thought he was pretty average all year then suddenly outstanding during the split. I just call it as I see it. Sometimes I will get it 'right' (though is there such a thing?) and sometimes not.
  20. I had a dream last night that I met Lafferty and asked him if his Facebook page was really his. He refused to answer me and ran away.
  21. Is the old football cliche I'm about to quote true? That you are only as good as your last game?
  22. I said months ago that I prayed the first thing Ally did was to persuade Weir to give up playing. He's gone completely the opposite way and persuaded him to remain on board. Call me ageist, and I've said this before, but I don't want a 41 year old defender in our team.
  23. If you don't rate a player, then even if others believe he's done well in a match you might disagree, because your own personal bias clouds your judgement. I stopped rating Edu last year, and even though he was marginally less bad in the split many fans said he was actually 'good' which I disagree with completely. Am I being unfair, accurate, irrational, what? It's hard to judge who's right and wrong because there is no correct answer. It's completely subjective and based on opinion.
  24. I accept your point but Ashley Young was in his last year yet still cost Man Utd about £20M. That said, doesn't your point about debt sorta reinforce why these teams are trying to rake in so much for players? There's also the bizarre interest in Edu for 3M Euros. Bougherra isn't great, so he is not attracting the bids - he didn't last summer, and he hasn't this summer either. Whittaker is because the Turks got Miller on the cheap so think they can do it again. And are shocked that we're playing hardball this time.
  25. Fees for footballers are going up like crazy world wide. Players in Europe are being sold casually for 30-50M quid, and completely average English players cost about £20M. It was going to follow that the SPL would be the same.
