  1. My main two criticisms of McCoist so far I've already posted about. I'm also disappointed about the lack of signings, and I disagree strongly that all Ally does is identify the player he wants. After all, didn't Hemed say he met McCoist personally during negotiations? Unless that player is lying, I think the view from some quarters on here that McCoist has fuck all to do with transfer negotiations is wide of the mark. I just think he's getting an easier ride from some. He's our manager, he will get stick and praise when he deserves them.
  2. We've been in this situation with many clubs and players before, and I've never seen said club release a statement like this.
  3. The one time I saw him he was absolutely lousy. He was so, clunky, awkward, and got caught on the ball in a way that would make Edu proud.
  4. My point remains. I don't remember SDM being namechecked whenever we were in for someone. Now it's all about Whyte. Which I find strange.
  5. Yes, I heard this, apparently a player of good quality. Last time I heard a rumour from Real Radio, it was about us signing a Milan midfielder...
  6. Due to recent media speculation, Chairman Stephen Thompson has issued the following statement: "We have had no contact with Rangers FC since Monday 20th June and have not received a bid from them for David Goodwillie". http://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/index.asp?tm=2&nid=3935&cd=2011 Very odd statement to come out with.
  7. He's said he sees his long term future at Arsenal, and while he loved playing for us, I don't think he'd want to make the switch permanent. There's also the question that, imo, he's not as good as Cuellar.
  8. It's curious. Before Whyte came in we never actually raised the issue of the owner (SDM) and CE (Bain) being responsible for signings - we always appraised Walter or Eck or whoevers' record in that department. Now Whyte has taken over the goalposts have shifted hugely - now we're suddenly deciding it's the owner and our SD Smith who are responsible for them. I don't remember it being like this before Whyte came along. As for your questions Craig, I'm not exactly sure what they are? In all honesty, there could be an issue with attracting player because we have an inexperienced manager. There could be one because Whyte isn't willing to give the wages players want or pay the fees. There could be one because Smith isn't negotiating very well. I don't really know. But the Whyte, Ally and Smith era hasn't exactly started all that well, whoever is responsible.
  9. Yes, and all the bosses we've had since Smith took over in 91 have all been worldwide names in management or well known experienced bosses - Walter Smith, Dick Advocaat, PLG, Eck. McCoist seems to be finding it very tough to bring in players. I was merely positing a theory as to why. It's been deduced from this that I'm a McCoist hater. Yet I'm seeing a lot of concern elsewhere online about our lack of signings. Are they all McCoist haters too?
  10. The last time I did that after having early doubts was the PLG era. I'm not a fan of Ally, nor am I a critic. I am giving him my backing but rightfully questioning his performance in the transfer market. If having concerns about our total failures so far on that front means I'm a critic of Ally McCoist, well, I don't really see the link, but fair enough.
  11. Didn't actually assert an opinion. I asked a question. Which some seem outraged by. Fair do's.
  12. I was sure he was off to Blackburn. Delighted to hear so much interest in a truly awful player.
  13. Adebayor is world class. Santa Cruz is pretty good too. Wayne Bridge is England's best LB.
  14. Is a reason we're struggling in the transfer market because Ally's a rookie manager? Leicester City are managed by Sven, and he seems to have had no trouble attracting Danns, while Ally is struggling to not only sign anyone, but hold onto players. I hope players aren't looking at Ally and not really wanting to play for him.
  15. I read an article online about this, he didn't say he won't pick him. He just said it's a very difficult situation and he isn't exactly sure how to handle it.
  16. If we lose McGregor without having made any marquee signings I think there will be a lot of extremely unhappy bears out there.
  17. I said before the weekend that I hoped to see at least one new face today. And I wake up to hear Cuellar's wages are too high for us, Neil Danns is going to Leicester, and Arsenal are going to make us wait a month before deciding Bartley's future. Ally is really struggling at the moment to sign anyone - I'm not exactly sure why.
  18. Yet another one we seem to have missed out on. Bartley is looking unlikely now, Goodwillie seems to be fading, Cuellar we just can't afford, and of course Hemed went to Mallorca. This shiny new regime is really struggling to bring anyone in. And I am extremely disappointed that Weir is set to be offered another year playing deal. Not a lot to be chirpy about on this front right now.
  19. JJ will be fired for not towing Vlad's mad line.
  20. I can't find this story anywhere tbh. Where did you hear it?
  21. When a tenuous link about Carlos began and then snowballed into actual negotiations I was beyond delighted. Let us hope the same can happen here with Hutton and we get both of the bastards. But we won't...of course...
  22. Us fans so rarely get what we want though. It would be wonderful but a cynical part of me expects neither to come back. Doesn't stop most of me being very excited by the prospect...
  23. That said, it was frustrating hearing Whyte reply to Jim on SSN about deals saying 'we're working on it' each time - I suppose what I wanted him to say is progress but not gratuitously open progress. I suppose in a way the club can't really say the right thing at all as they're either saying too much or too little.
  24. I'd be honestly beyond furious if Ally doesn't at least enquire. I'd accept if other clubs in England offer more wages, it might be a bit of a schlep for him to move back up here for lower wages. That said Ally has a chance to make himself a hero before a ball is even kicked by getting both Cuellar and Hutton back. Let's pray he goes for it.
